I don't know if Rocky feels better this morning, but I do!!

I am MUCH HAPPIER when Rocky is in the 200s, even if it is still the high 200s.

Yes, Rocky is up again at +3 353. .. :roll:

I have no patience pants. No one stole them. I've never owned them before. Never even tried them on. I think they don't look good on me. haha_smiley

So, how many cycles, (hours or days), does Rocky stay in the 300s before we raise him back up to 1.5u?

Tina: The shed needs to rebuild. The sugar dance is a marathon not a sprint. Can't rush it. Also when on a new dose, should get a +2 or 3. Never know what may happen. You need to have patience for Rocky. Rome was not built in a day, neither is the shed.

I wonder if having UNTREATED RINGWORM has anything to do with his numbers not coming down :?: :?:

I am just back from my doctor where they did a scrape test on me. THE RED PATCH BEHIND MY EAR TESTED POSITIVE FOR RING WORM :!: :!:

The vet he saw at the second hospital when he was DKA left me a message yesterday saying that she did not believe it was ring worm because she had cuddled him and developed no symptoms. I have a call into her right now but she was with another patient.

I can't afford weekly lime dips. It's going to have to be topical and whatever the vet offers for Rocky.

There is a medication for ringworm but it's hard on the liver. I'd want to know that Rocky's liver values are OK before I went that route.

I bathed BOTH Gabby and Gizmo in sulfur/lime solution on a weekly basis. It was not done at the vet's office. It's a mess in that you soak the kitty and then the cat needs to air dry. That meant Gabby spent over an hour crying whereas Gizmo figured out how to open the door to the bathroom that I had him locked up in. It was rather amusing how I made sure he couldn't worm his way out!

The other things I did:
  • the cats were contained in one room to restrict further possibility of contaminating absolutely everything
  • everything in that room got washed and/or wiped down with a dilute bleach solution once a week
  • all of my upholstered furniture was professionally cleaned
  • my rugs were sent out to be professionally cleaned (put in a chamber, argon gas pumped in, then washed
  • any toys or cat trees that couldn't be washed or sprayed with either bleach or anti-fungal spray were thrown out

My vet insisted that Gabby had 2 negative tests before I stopped the process. There was no recurrence but I was very tired. I do not wish ringworm treatment on anyone but it is possible to treat this without weekly vet visits.

Hi Tina: I don't know how successful it is but I have heard Apple Cider Vinegar works on ringworm. Also,
Vetericyn® Wound & Skin Care is recommended for the treatment of ringworm. Both are natural products and won't cause any conflict with the BG. At least it is not staph.

Here is some info on ringworm from a foster mom in Langley, BC who fostered 10 ferals with ringworm, UTIs, pneumonia. They are all healthy now but it was a long road.

Thanks Barbara for mentioning the apple cider vinegar. I use it for a lot of things including medicinally on myself and altho I don't have direct experience with it in regard to ringworm I have heard it works for that too. I do have direct experience with it with what I believe was mange, however: one of my cats (civvie) began developing bald spots all over his body and after multiple trips to a couple of different vets & multiple dx's & treatments (minor skin condition, salves & creams), at the last one at which I insisted he be tested for mange (since absolutely nothing else they had prescribed for his "skin condition" had worked) I was told that it wasn't necessary b/c mange was really rare in cats and it was highly unlikely that he had mange. Well so of course I didn't get the test (b/c they wouldn't do it) & so I came home and googled it and read that bathing the cat in an apple cider solution would get rid of the parasite causing the mange. The 1st time I tried "bathing" him in this it didn't work out so well (LOL cats have claws & don't like being bathed), he didn't scream like it burned or anything he just didn't like being wet & let me know it. so I started soaking cotton balls in the solution and dabbing it on the bald spots & wiping it all over his body that way. This didn't bother him at all & w/in days his fur started growing back & months went by and one other time I started noticing him starting to get a bald spot again, dabbed a little more apple cider vinegar on there, and poof, a couple days later fur was starting to grow back there & he has never had another problem, ever and this was several years ago.

I'm an old timer around here & those that know me know that they can always count on me to provide those great "scientific" remedies :lol: ohmygod_smile :lol: All I know is that it worked.

Scientifically speaking, however, I have used Vetrycin a lot too not only on the cats but on the dog and my horses as well and have had really good luck with that product too. It actually helped me save my horse Bandit's eye, he had a bad infection just above his eye that I could not treat w/anything b/c it was so close to his eye, so I finally resorted to Vetrycin only b/c I knew better than to dowse his eye in apple cider vinegar, LOL, just make sure you get the Vetrycin that is safe to use around the eye! Wish they'd make one for people.

Think positively. Maybe you should be tested again? Is it possible that you had a false positive? Does Rocky have any symptoms?

Hi everyone,

As awful as it sounds, YES, I do believe it is ringworm and that it was NOT false positive test on me. My doctor scraped my skin and looked at it under a microscope while I was there. It was definitely ringworm.

Rocky is the one who is showing false negative.

I went to Pet Club to buy pee pads so that I could use them as daily blankets for Rocky and then throw them away. While I was there I talked to the manager about it and she said that she has treated over 30 dogs, many guinea pigs, and cats with a product called "Fungisan." She said it has never failed to work to completely eradicate ringworm. I bought a bottle of it:

I was a little peeved when I called the vet and asked them if I could please bring Rocky in to have his front and back toe nails cut because he has ringworm. They told me I could not bring him to their hospital until AFTER he had at least one lime-sulfur dip!! Imagine that--- after spending 12 days at their hospital with ringworm with the no diagnosis and no treatment. Now I am forced to buy a bottle of their lime-sulfur dip for him to return to get his nails clipped.

Anyway, I am going to bathe him tomorrow with a medicated cat wash that I have from a different vet. The next day I will dip him in the lime-sulfur. After that, I will probably only use the Fungisan on him, and on me!!

Rocky has been isolated in my guest bathroom since coming home from the hospital and has never been in any other part of my house. In addition, he has had no contact with any of my other cats.

I was thinking about giving him the pills, and the vet checked to see if it would hurt the liver, and she said it would be OK. But on thinking about it more I will just go ahead and do the topical treatments for now.

It looks like he doesn't need the Clavamox after all but I might continue him on it anyway for at least the full 10 day treatment.

The vet should give you a goopy sort of eye ointment to use when you "dip" Rocky. The sulfur/lime dip shouldn't get into his eyes.

I'm not surprised if you vet didn't get ringworm. Perhaps she's had it before. I had ringworm as a child and when I volunteered at a no kill shelter, I always helped out with the ringworm cats because I'd had it and seemed to be immune to it. I never caught ringworm from any of the cats.

That's good to know! I think maybe my system is a bit run down from so many sleepless nights. I hope to not have it again. :-)

Tested negative for ketones at 1AM.. whew.. He peed while I was applying the Fungisan to his bare skin and areas of ringworm. I quickly grabbed the ketone strips and was able to dip it into the pee right afterwards. It made sort of a puddle so easy-peasy. Somewhat relieved after continuing to see all of this stinky pinky numbers.
