shoot - that's too bad. but it does happen.
are you using the lift & roll method, where you just roll back a bit and put the needle just under the skin? if so, and you're having lots of fur shots, you might have better luck with the pull up a hunk of flesh method that i described last night. i only once had the needle go all the way through and i used both short and longer needles.
i also always waited for punkin to bury his face in his food before giving his shot. that distracted him and kept him in one spot while i shot him.

the only thing i'd disagree with is the "pull back the syringe to see if there is blood in it" comment. i've had my allergy injections do that and it hurts like hell. i think if you're in the right area, you're not likely to hit veins.
hang in there! it'll get easier! and he'll recover from the fur shot. everyone does them sometimes.
