I think it's still a little early to tell for sure, but I think we may have a late nadir situation with the fluids in the mix now. HIstorically, Trix usually flattened out by +4...only very rarely did she drop after that. The last to mornings, though, her AMPS has been much lower than the last test I took before hitting the hay.

I did test at +5 last night and she was still flat....but then I realized that "shot +5" was "fluids +2"....pretty much the same time I tested the night before and thought she was staying flat - then I woke up to an AMPS of 60. Tired brain is still not doing the math quite right. Soooo...tonight, we have to do fluids an hour earlier, at "shot +2" instead of "shot +3", because DH has volleyball tonight, THAT will make it easier to get some later "post fluids" tests in....fluids earlier, DH wound up from playing VB hopefully will give us a little more data.

Even if she looks like she's surfing safely today, I am going to come home for a test at some point, just to gather a little more data. Fortunately one of my partners is working the store with me, so I am able to get away for a bit.

Trix continues to be radiantly herself :-D . Good appy, followed all her morning rituals, etc. Today, I did go BTB after her shot, because Zen wanted some snuggles and the bedroom is his territory...I didn't want to neglect his needs. So, I didn't get morning couch snuggles with Trix, but she was helping me here for a few minutes. with "write Trix's condo" snuggles...also one of her normal morning rituals - until the heat kicked on...then it was off to the heating vent.

I'm calmer, yet still incredibly anxious. I'm starting to absorb the info, but it is nagging in the back of my head that we don't fully know what we're up against just yet, since her BW wasn't completely definitive of straightforward CKD, or if something else is contributing to these numbers. The unknown factor makes me nervous, but we shall get through it, because we have to. I'm also still pretty tired...two more work days, then I'm off....hopefully I can catch up a little more on sleep then.

We are sending endless prayers out today for Barbara's (& Tuffy) family. What a very sad day in LL, as one of our beans has crossed the bridge.

ETA: At this point I am convinced that Frankie's calming treats are loaded with caffeine ohmygod_smile ! Wow was she wound up after having them last night. She did eventually settle and sleep all night, but not before mega interaction with her MamaBean.

What lovely #s for Miss Trixie this morning! I hope that you can get some proper rest tonight, Amy. Have a great day, and please be safe.

Re: 3/5 Trixie AMPS 106 +2.25 89

Nice report on Trixie. So glad she's so "radiant" and good appy. And she's in the Lagoon
Have a nice day, Amy. Scritches and hugs to Trixie and furbabies from us.

Re: 3/5 Trixie AMPS 106 +2.25 89

Good Trixie report. Love the happy appy. I'm glad you are calmer. I can't imagine what you are going through to be hit with that out of the blue. Have a great day Amy!!

Re: 3/5 Trixie AMPS 106 +2.25 89

Morning Amy ~O) ~O) ~O)

Nice numbers, nice WCR. Woo HOO! Trixie is back to being Trixie. :-D  Love the writing Trixie's condo snuggles on the lap. Funny, Lola does that too.

I am sure you will get the timing of it all down. I can remember others in the past posting about how they too had to adjust the time for giving fluids, as it did tend to lower the BG's. Wishing you much luck.

Have a great day today. I hope all goes well.

Hi Amy,
I'm very glad to read that Trixie is feeling and acting so good. You are doing a great job with the fluids, the dosing, and balancing it all so well. I hope your vet can figure out the inconsistencies in the test results. You may have to have some of them run again.
Calming vines to Frankie and good sleep vines to you.

Hugs and scritches,

Ella & Rusty

HI guys .. pretty green trixie! I have to say, I am in awe of how you are balancing out everything with trixie .. You're such a good mommabean to her .. have a great day guys!

Re: 3/5 Trixie AMPS 106 +2.25 89

She's pretty flat so far, but I'm going to run home at +7 for a "data gathering" pokey test. I suspect we'll see bigger drops in her evening cycles since that is closer to fluid time, but I want to get a better idea of what's going on.

@Ella...yep, we have to rerun her tests in 2.5 weeks from now, then evaluate and go for there. If there isn't much change, then we have to move on to ultrasound and/or x-rays. If there is improvement....I guess we'd stay on this course and retest again in the future. It's a very strange, non-straightforward situation.

Goodness, I'm tired just reading all you're going through. That is a lot to absorb and I for one think you're handling it all in stride, the best you can anyway, and the fact you are sleep depraved. @-)
The Trixie news of the day seems to be very good overall, and her numbers just lovely. I hope the test in a few weeks will show improvement for your girl. I'll be praying for you guys. ;-)
Have a good evening Amy :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Re: 3/5 Trixie AMPS 106 +2.25 89 +4 85 +7 129

Hi Amy:

Just got caught up on what you've been going through the past few days. Whew! What an ordeal. I'm so glad Trixie is doing so well. I'm sure it helps calm you down that she seems to be feeling okay.

Congrats on the successful fluids administration. It's a little intimidating, but once you've done it a few times, it gets easier. I found Marje's video to be a godsend.

Sending tons of vines for Trixie, for you and the DH (nice name, by the way - same as my DH), and for the other kitties. Calming ones for Frankie. ;-)

Nice numbers for Trixie today. I'm glad she's still acting like herself. I hope you can get some good data tonight.

Re: 3/5 Trixie PMPS 166 +2 156 Small vetty update

I guess she's feeling a little bouncy tonight....

We didn't have the greatest fluids experience tonight :-| ...First, DH hit an ouchie spot with the needle, and that was just about all she wrote. He tried a couple more times, and Trix tried to whip her head around and nip him  ! He finally found a spot that worked for Trix, turned on the flow, and apparently he went through the other side of the tent...leakage. Turned off the flow, adjusted the needle (but didn't pull it all the way back out), turned it back on, and it was going OK for a bit, but then started leaking again??? Maybe it was leaking out that accidental hole on the other side of the tent??? She was getting a bit stressed, so we had to let her go. I would say we did get most of it in...probably about 100ml out of the 150ml she was supposed to get. She definitely has the "pouch"...just not as big as previous nights. She was happy to get the heck outta the master bathroom! It'll get easier, Trix....I know it will. Tomorrow, we do switch to 100mls nightly.

I spoke to the vet for a while this evening. The condensed version: we're going to hold off on tracking down/purchasing a full case of fluids until we rerun her BW in 2.5 weeks. The vet said, based on those results, we may end up changing the solution in the event certain BW values indicate that the LRS isn't the right one for her. So, for now, my hunt for the scarce fluids is on hold, and I'll be picking up another bag/set from the vet tomorrow. (Side note: I finally did find someone today who could get me LRS at $9.99 per bag with $9.99 shipping. It was a medical supply place, and he had a very hard time tracking it down.)

We talked about phosphorous binders for a bit, too - I wanted to let her know I wanted to start using them before I actually did it. She was OK with that, so - thanks to a lovely care package that arrived today (thank you Josie and Marje!), we'll start adding that to her fuds tomorrow.

The vet is still scratching her head about the cause of these higher kidney values and how they don't jive with some of the other numbers (as well as her behavior). She said if we really wanted to, we could run her BW sooner, but I'd rather wait the 3 full weeks to give all the changes enough time to settle out.

Re: 3/5 Trixie PMPS 166 +2 156 Small vetty update

Just getting caught up with what you are dealing with. And oh boy can I relate to what just happened with Trixie and the fluids. I did the same thing. Sid forgave me. You are doing such a super job with her. She's got the best mombean and dad bean.

Re: 3/5 Trixie PMPS 166 +2 156 Small vetty update

I'm sure Trixie has forgiven you for the fluids "event". She knows you are only trying to help her. Have a good night and get some good sleep. Frankie, be good!!

Hugs, scritches,

Ella & Rusty

I love the way you describe Trixie being radiantly herself! Yep, I hear you on the fluids, it's an adventure  . Some nights are so smooth, the next one I or Chyna, or both wear it, or ouchie grumpy spot is hit and she runs as fast as her old arthritic legs will let her when we're done or mostly done...well, she knows you love her and next time will be better :-D .

I'm glad you found somewhere to get fluids, but I hope the new BW you will run shows you don't need them! Since her phos was up it's good that you have binder. I hope you can get the timing down for the fluids vs shots so you have a pattern again. Looks like a nice slide tonight so far. Hope you are having a good evening

Are you freezing the needles? It really does help to keep them in the freezer. We kept about four at a time.

It's easy to poke through the other side so remember to just insert the needle so the bevel part where the fluid comes out is in; you don't have to put the whole needle in. Be sure it is parallel to her spine. You'll get it!!! It does take practice :-D

Glad you will be starting the binder. I really wouldn't rely sorry on the binder; as tough as it might be, it's best to see if you can get her in a lower P food. But...the bottom line is the best food for a CKD cat is the one it will eat :-D
