Hi everyone. Nava has been doing good. His numbers are slowly creeping back up. But other than that much better than Sunday.
I do have a question. I got him some fancy feast flaked fish and shrimp food to mix a little bit into his DM and on the food chart i cannot find this food. I googled it and it said no carbs. I dont believe that. Does anyone know if this is okay?

Welcome to LantusLand! I used to live in Portland, ME but I had to look up Sabattus. I don't know about the food but hopefully someone will come along who does. You're in the right place to treat Nava's diabetes. And you're doing an awesome job with everything, it's a LOT! Give yourself a bunch of credit. :-D :-D :-D

I did find it listed on dr. lisa's site http://www.catinfo.org as 0 carbs as well. She updated the food lists extensively about a year ago, so i would assume it would be accurate.

with male cats, it's best not to overdo the fish - it can contribute to urinary tract problems. but if you're just doing it as a treat, or mixing in a little, it's probably fine. you probably wouldn't want fish as the main food if you have other choices. if you haven't looked at the site above yet, there is lots of good info on there about feeding cats. For the most part, it recommends sticking with poultry because that's more likely what a cat in the wild would be eating. other than mice, of course. i have always wondered why we don't have mouse cat food, although i'm not sure i could even buy it if it existed!

It would be great if you could get a couple of tests in per cycle besides the preshot. We only "need" one mid-cycle test, but it would be nice to have a little better picture of what's going on in Nava's body since you dropped the dose to 1u. If you can't manage it, then carry on, but if it's possible it would be helpful. :-D

Welcome, Becky and Nava! Tons of info and great support here in LantusLand...we hope to see more of you guys!

Thank u every one:) I try to get 2 per cycle. I plan on getting more on the weekends. I should get another tonight.
Anne we are about 40 minutes from Portland:) I am sure you are loving the weather in Arizona:)

Hi Becky!

You're doing well with Nava! I wanted to see if we might be able to clear up the note you added on 3/3 about not being sure if the insulin went in.

Lantus has a very distinct smell, so usually, if you give a "fur-shot", you'll smell it, but we always suggest that if there's even a chance, you gently feel for any wet spots as well as maybe even "sniffing" close (yes! We sniff our cats!!)

It kind of smells like a band-aid factory...or some people say it smells like Scotch (I don't drink, so I wouldn't know what Scotch smelled like)

Did this happen on the AM cycle or the PM? Your note doesn't really say.

Anytime it's possible that we gave a furshot, we always restart the cycle count. It won't matter so much here because it happened on the 1st or 2nd shot of the 6, but we wouldn't want to re-evaluate Nava until we're sure he'd gotten at least the full 6 shots at 1 unit, so tomorrow morning will actually be his 5th or 6th cycle.

If, for example, you'd done a furshot this morning, we'd start the 6 cycle count completely over though. No matter what, you NEVER want to assume that none of the insulin went in, and repeat the shot (or even give just a little). We've seen too many times when people were almost positive they'd given a furshot and later on in that cycle, their kitty dropped low.

Keep up the good work!
