Yesterday's Condo

Cinco is back to being a fairly flat kitty - mostly blue with yellow PS. With all the upheaval and new meds, plus back on the AB, I'm good with that! I feel so awful for the poor little guy - three kinds of eye drops for a total of 8 in the right and 5 in the left throughout the day, plus the AB, plus testing and shooting. I'm sure he thinks of me as That Lady that Tortures Me!  I just wish we could see some light at the end of the tunnel for all this. Just put a call in to the vet, since I haven't heard back from them about the ultra sound. I had to leave a message, so I hope she calls me back.

All other kitties are doing well. Minka's eyes were a little better today, although still drippy. I am thinking it has to do with the early spring blooming our warm winter has caused. Will keep watching it and take her in next week if it gets worse.

Sending good vines to all in need and hugs to all their beans. :YMHUG: Special successful surgery and recovery vines to Chris.

Re: 3/6 Cinco AMPS 246 +3 116

Hi Tricia, I wanted to say hi and welcome you back. I hope you had a nice time. You definitely needed a break from all the drops and testing. Cinco looks like he is doing well with his dose. That seems so tough with all those drops.

My prayers are with Cinco for a good report and improvement with his eyes. When are you supposed to hear something?

Re: 3/6 Cinco AMPS 246 +3 116

Hi Catherine. Thanks for the kind words. I don't know when I'll hear. When I called, the vet was with someone, and they said they would let her know I wanted to talk to her (which she should have known anyway). That clinic is always hopping, so I guess I'll just have to tighten up my patience pants and wait. If I don't hear anything by later this afternoon, I'll call again. I don't like being a squeaky wheel, but sometimes that's the only way to get what you need!

Re: 3/6 Cinco AMPS 246 +3 116

I hope you get to talk to the vet today. Even though our kitties don't like it when we have to give them medicine, I think they understand we are trying to help them. They know how much we love them. I'm glad Minka's eye is better today.

Finally heard from the vet. She said that the ultrasound did not show any masses or any evidence of cancer. :-D She said it did show that the pancreas was slightly inflamed, but since Cinco has no symptoms of pancreatitis, she is not inclined to treat it at this time. She said if he seemed to be a little uncomfortable in the abdomen or gassy, to give him some pepcid, but unless he vomits, has diarrhea or quits eating, he should be fine. She did recommend a lower fat food. She even mentioned HIll's W/D, but I pointed out that he needs to stay with LC. So now I'll be looking at the fat % on the food charts, as well as the carbs and phos!! :YMSIGH: :YMSIGH:

This is good news and I'm happy there is no sign of cancer, but it leaves us with the question still of what is causing the issue with his right eye? I'll just have to wait for his next OV appointment, I guess. Not till 3/17. :YMSIGH:

Hi Tricia, I'm so happy to hear that Cinco's ultrasound is clear!!!! :-D dancing_cat . I know ALL about trying to find fuds with a bunch of different factors :YMSIGH: . I printed the list and took a highlighter to it, and then did my own spreadsheet in excel so I could sort it any way I wanted to (carb/fat/phos...) . I'm a bit obsessive ;-) I hope that the eye drops will settle his eye down for whatever is wrong (or not wrong). Hugs to you, and scritches to Cinco! Healing vines for his eye and his pancreas have been sent.

Wonderful, wonderful news :-D !!! Maybe he has a blocked tear duct in his right eye??? All in all, just a great Cinco condo here today....what a relief!

Have a great night, Tricia!!

Thanks, Rachel. I didn't sound as happy as I feel about the results. I'm just still worried that there might be a mass behind his eye.

Amy, it's not only inflamed, but there is damage to the iris and the OV says it looks like it would if there was a mass. If the meds he's on don't bring about a lot of improvement, I think the next step may be to remove the eye. He hasn't mentioned any kind of scan of the head, so that will be at the top of my list of questions on the next visit. Meanwhile, I'm glad he doesn't seem bothered by it - just by all the drops!

Welcome home! Nice day for Cinco :-D :-D I'm so happy to hear no sign of any cancer. Sending prayers that his eye will improve.

It's old school to think a cat with mild pancreatitis needs low fat food. From A Primer on Pancreatitis:

Nutritional Support: Previously, it was thought that cats with pancreatitis should be fasted or put on a low fat/high fiber diet. Current treatment has deemed this unnecessary. Some internal medicine specialists believe a cat with chronic, recurrent pancreatitis might benefit from a low-residue diet. It is important to discuss the dietary needs with the vet but it is typically trial and error.

The bold is mine. I hope this info helps.

Sending prayers for your cousin.

Re: 3/6 Cinco PMPS 256 + 3 230 +6 245

Thank you Ella, Marje, Sienne, and Mariko. It really is a huge relief. :-D :-D :-D

Marje, thank you for the info about the low-fat food theory. I appreciate that, as it was already tough trying to find foods that both Cinco and Harvey could and would eat. I hated having to add in another variable. Luckily, all my kitties like the Evo chicken and turkey, which seems to be good for everyone! Now I just have to find the least expensive place to buy it.

Cinco decided to be flat yellow tonight. I wonder if the being back on the AB is kicking his numbers up again? I wouldn't do a dosecrease now, since we're going to be gone the next couple of days, but if he's still all yellow on Monday, I guess we'll have to go back to 2.25. If it's not one thing, it's another!

We're off to Reno tomorrow for the last ski weekend this year. After that things should settle down around here (anti-jinx).

Great news on the U/S, Tricia :-D Hope the drops clear up whatever it is, and you are able to give less/stop. I, like Carla, think they come to understand we are trying to help them, even if they don't really like it~
