3/15 Shasta

WCR: All Ps in place. Snuggles at bedtime; snuggles at btb time. Woke up at 3:30am (+9.5) to Shasta vomiting. I think it might have been caused by too many PureBite treats. She seems ok this morning, but along with my concern over the Potassium supplement/dosing and added information from Sienne & Marje regarding effects of too much Potassium...I'm back to being super worried. nailbite_smile :YMSIGH: Appy was ok this morning. Still need to fill the cypro prescription...just in case. My vet did not write us a prescription for Ondansetron because he did not feel it was necessary for a cat that was not dealing with nausea and when he did some quick research on it, he saw that it was predominantly prescribed to cats that he been through chemo treatments, etc. Since starting her back on Potassium supplements (and her anal sac expression), her appy has been ok.

This all just leaves me... confused_cat

I slept a little later than I meant to this morning. Headache has been pretty crappy today and I have a feeling it's going to get worse as I need to go and finish painting the exterior doors and trim now. After that, I need to run to Wal-mart and Target and I never got to working on the computer last night to get those recordings ready for my students. :roll: Hopefully tonight. Bummer about the pukus and the worries....it is so challenging to balance all the needs of our babies - and to figure what is causing what. Snuggle are awesome, though, and so are her numbers today - lovely blues surf!

Sending vines for your headache...I hope it hasn't gotten any worse (although with having to go to Walmart and Target, I'm guessing the chances of that are slim!).

It is true that too much potassium can cause problems, nasty problems. Having been through this with Mannie, I would say stick to the dose as prescribed by the vet, and not the vet tech. That is crazy to say you cannot give too much. You can. I also know that you need at some point to retest with the BW to see how it si working, and how Shasta is responding. If Shasta levels were at 2.6, then she really does need the potassium. Once on the meds/supplement the levels also need to be rechecked. Too low of a level can cause problems too.

My vets approach to the Ondansetron was much the same as yours. The IM specialist we had felt the same too. It is a Strong med, and they did not advise using it, unless there was no alternative, and/or if one was dealing with severe nausea. anyways, I am glad Shasta's appy is better.

Ugh on the headache, and the confusing things to figure out. Life sure likes to throw us curve balls! I hope you can get a nice clear plan, and feel better soon. The snuggles that Shasta is giving should help ;-) . Vines to you and Shasta both to feel good. I hope the shopping trip goes ok and that you manage to squeeze some relaxing time in today
