3/22 Bonk AMPS 487 +10 61 +11 75 PMPS Roller coaster Riding!

I feel like Bonk's on a roller coaster here. He did it to me again. This morning at AMPS he was at 487. I had to drive up to Maine for something work related today. I come back home this evening, test him at +10, and he's at 61!!! I just gave him a scoop of his beloved kibble, because now he's dropping too low! I can't let this guy out of my sight for a minute, he'll drop is blood sugar when I'm not watching.

I know he had a full pile of energy this afternoon. I saw him doing more running than I've seen in weeks, if not months! And unlike yesterday, he has been eating well all day. No problem with appetite tonight. So he seems to be fine from the low numbers. I'll retest at +11.

I wonder if some of his numbers inconsistency (not the bouncing) is due to the dry food in the mix. I know he loves it but do you think you are getting closer to tapering him completely off?

The problem with giving dry food for a low or dropping number is that it can take a bit of time to affect the BG and then it can hang around awhile. So his PMPS might be more influenced by the dry food. A better choice might have been a good tsp or so of LC food because it's late in the cycle. And giving it at +10 would have allowed the PMPS to not be food influenced.

Thanks Marje! Love the image, very fitting! :lol: I just tested for +11, and he is at 75, a little better.

Good point on the dry food. It wasn't a lot that I have him, and it was the low carb Evo dry food. He did have plenty of canned food with it too.

As for feeding him dry, he is pretty much off the kibble. When he is playing Mr. Picky, I'll give him a few pieces. For some reason, he is more willing to eat the canned food if he has some dry to go with it, so I'll give him just a pinch of dry. But that's it. So I doubt that's effecting his numbers much.

Now here is a question for everyone. I'm only an hour out from his next injection. I don't know how much his numbers will rise in the next hour. Do I give the full 3 units?

Okay, so I answered my own question. I read through the sticky on shooting low, and since his PMPS was up to 126, I decided to shoot his normal dosage. I'll just have to keep an extra eye on him tonight.

I guess the scoop of dry wasn't such a great idea, I just got a +2, and he's already shot up to 244. Either that, or his next bounce is already beginning. I guess we'll see what happens next.

Bounces suck, hopefully Mr. L will get with the program quickly.

I think with a name like "Bonk", bounces are inevitable! :lol: Seriously, I hope he doesn't go too high. I'd bet the dry food had some influence. I hope he settles down and surfs at a good number for you.

Good luck with getting off the dry kibble, it can be so hard. We understand so well about the crazy up and down numbers. :YMHUG:

While none of us like bouncing, if they're going to do it, we like it better at night because it means we can go to sleep knowing they'll be safe through the night!

He could have dropped lower while you weren't there, but even 61 is lower than Mr. Liver has seen in awhile, so as is his usual custom, he freaks out!!

General rule...if in the last half of the cycle, try regular low carb food and restest in 20-30 minutes.

Boots! You're worrying your daddybean! Knock it off!!

Hopefully the bounce won't last too long
