Yesterday was the first really good day in a long time which led to an medium night.. Today is starting off barely pink. I'm thinking a bounce?? Stinky, stinky, stinky pink even after 4 hours!!!!

I finally figured out how to link the condos. I guess I'm not hopelessly computer illiterate,LOL. And yes I did it by myself. There is definitely something to be said for sleep.

I HATE DIABETES.

I sure hope this bounce ends tonight. It can't be good for him to be above 250.

definitely a bounce today.

i hear ya on the diabetes - after having punkin my husband and i were both "we're NOT getting that terrible disease!" so we've straightened up on some of our bad habits. i never understood why people had so much trouble before but now i sure do. i have diabetes on both sides of my extended family and i surely do not want it myself!

Another thing besides teaching we have in common. It runs on both sides of my extended family as well. That and heart disease. Before Max got it a friend of mine had a cat that did. She was a very difficult cat to handle and she had to make the decision not to treat her. At the time I was thinking, well gosh, all you have to do is give 2 shots a day that they don't even feel. Yea, having to be home for them 12 hours apart is a pain, but you can do it. Seeing how tough Max and others are to regulate I understand why she couldn't teat her cat.

No, my computer didn't stick. The BG just isn't budging. Down, pretty please!!!

Hey Elise,

I hate feline diabetes, too! I wish there was some way I could help you. I know you're feeling extremely frustrated right now (for good reason). All I can do is offer my support and encouragement. You're doing a great job with Max, and I'm hoping those numbers will come down for you tonight. Come on, Max, help your bean out. She needs some good numbers tonight.

Lots of thoughts, prayers, and hugs are headed your way! :YMHUG:

Hi Elise,

I feel it took me a long time to find the dose for Rocky where he would be in more blue or green numbers. He is still not there yet, but getting closer. In the beginning of his treatment he would even bounce into the red and black numbers on a small amount of insulin.

One thing I think for Rocky that may have helped level out his numbers a bit is that I began feeding him 8 mini-meals a day instead of (2) giant meals a day. I used to feed him 3/4 can of food in the AM and then one that was the same amount for his PM meal. His vets at the hospital advised that I feed him only twice a day, each time right before I gave him his insulin shot. They advised me not to feed him at any other time during the day. I was someone leery about feeding him more than 2x a day. :?

The other thing is that Rocky weighed 13.5 pounds when he left the hospital. He looked very good, (other than being bald over HUGE portions of his body because he was covered in RINGWORM!!) But, I decided that he should actually weigh more for his bone size and I thought if he ever went DKA right away again it would be better if he could have a few extra pounds on him. I then increased his food to (1) can of food divided into 4 portions for his AM mini-meals, and did the same for his PM mini-meals. On top of that, I've had to feed him some FF Classic Chicken a few times now to keep his BG above 50. I'm pretty sure he has put on some weight!

Oh-- and I never meant to say that calipers would not work for you. What I said was that syringes are inaccurate because they always vary in size. The plunger varies. That little plunger can be lopsided sometimes too. The calipers should work for you as long you choose the measured amount of insulin that you want to give Max and are consistent with it. You'd just make sure to measure that same amount for every shot. :YMPEACE: I just don't know if I could use them to measure it accurately. I wasn't talking about "tool" error... I was talking about OPERATOR error.
