yesterday's condo

Would you look at that amps?? That's the second lowest she's EVER had.. and I tested/shot 30 mins late!!! I really expected blue this morning..and was totally fine with it.. that's freakin 9 green amps IN A ROW.. feel so bad though.. she's doing so great and her present (the bird feeders) have not yet been successful.. still pretty cold here..

As for how she's feeling.. she was in a pretty good mood this morning.. think she appreciated having an hour more sleep than yesterday (I know I did :) ).. she was pretty chatty..and let me scratch her face before, during and after her test.. even a little bit of petting on the back.. she purred the whole time.. we played lots of bottle caps last night before bed.. she was in a pretty good mood last night too.. a good 10 minutes of knocking them off the desk.. and then a solid 10 mins of me throwing them and her batting them in midair sending them all over the room. She thinks its so funny that she taught her human how to fetch.

I love hearing about how you two play together even more now that I know her story and how it all came to be =) Sounds like Miss Nova is really doing well  Next time she lets you give her chin skritches, add some in from me too. cat_pet_icon

When Jerry really started slowing down.. I thought it might be arthritis.. so I got one of those always on kitty heating pads and put it under one half of the fleece blanket on the dog bed (yeah.. I don't have a dog..but I have a dog bed! :) ).. Jerry doesn't like it.. but Nova who tends to always like it REALLY cold.. loves it for some weird reason.. here's a picture of her sleeping in luxury:

Things to note:
Happy tail.. all curled up.. even when it's hanging off the cat tree she curls it up in a U while she sleeps.. it's a sure sign she is feeling good... feet facing one way.. head facing the other.. fur everywhere.. and paws sticking up in the air.. that's my girl :).

Well the c-peptide test hunt is over (in people it's a test that over multiple tests can give you an idea on how the pancreas function is changing).. big huge dead-end at every turn.. my vet hospital called all of the labs they used, those labs called all the places THEY use.. all over North America.

Nobody that was contacted does them on animals. Period. Everywhere that was contacted seemed to say something along the lines of "that's weird.. why doesn't anyone do that test on animals?".. We even tried private human only labs, none of them are willing to take an animal blood sample.

So.. that's that.

Nova not being one of those cats that races through the decreases (isn't that an understatement ;) ).. and having no way to find out if her pancreas is getting better or worse other than trying to keep her tightly regulated and play trial and error... I am sort of stuck. I don't want to give up on remission, but it's tough to keep her so tightly regulated and mess with food. She's pretty overweight now.. refusing FF "soup".. and refusing the low carb "diet" wet food I found (she ate it once, and that was it).. and hunger striking when she isn't fed enough volume wise to keep her full... the last month I've even kept the bathroom tap on really low (you should see my water bill ;) ).. because sometimes she will drink from there.. and I want her tummy to fill up.

So now I'm considering plan B that her doctor came up with.. Giving her appetite stimulants and then switching her food.. so she doesn't hunger strike.. and I can stay aggressive with her BG levels.. she's weird about food.. she's been on appetite stimulants many times in her life.. in fact she has an on-going prescription for them and they are always kept on hand.. but I don't like to resort to them, and avoid it like the plague..

Of course.. being that overweight is an issue too.. I certainly don't need another cat with heart problems.. hrm...

Blah. I tried feeding a snack right before AM+10.. don't think it helped any :(

I used to live in a couple of towns right by Naniamo when I was little.
