Let's come on back down, Cobb. I know you want to go to Rusty's party tonight. But pink and orange clash. I can't let you out of the house like that.

First week of work went well. Definitely stressful leaving Matty, but I know he'll adjust. I met about 30 people my first day, say in a Leadership Retreat my 3rd day, and this week I meet the school administrators. So that's another 33 principals, plus assistant principals. I'm a little overwhelmed with all the names. I know the important people though...my boss, the department secretary and HR director. And Julie, you educators just love your acronyms and abbreviations, don't you? The first day there was a conversation about how the APs need to get updated on the TKES system for CRCT and EOCT results. Or something to that effect. Whaaatt?? nailbite_smile I just smiled and nodded. I told my boss I was going to need an acronym cheat sheet please. All in all though, a good week. No complaints...yet, of course! It's incredibly different from TV but everyone is so nice.

I hope you all have a fantastic weekend! Prayers and healing vines to all who need them!

yes, it's awful. i try to stay away from it as much as possible! my cousin retired from working in the schools just about the time i started, and she said education is the most trend-driven industry there is. i totally believe it. i have to do some of it, but i'm all about what works, so with the kids i work with, i do what works.

i teach them multiplication tables by singing - just fyi, there are kids music cds that teach better than anything. "Verb verb verb, i'm an action word, so put me where the action is cuz i'm an action word!" you can count by 2's using the melody from Row Row Row Your Boat; there's a great youtube reggae guy who sings his 3's, and the tune from "Head and Shoulders Knees and Toes" works for counting by 4's. the Happy Birthday song works for 5's. one of my autistic students worked for literally years on counting by two's - it never stuck. but when i pulled out the songs, he got 2's, 3's, and 4's in no time, then our schedules shifted and i didn't have him the rest of the year. i desperately wanted to try to teach him the rest of his multiplication table, but that's life.

Learning names when you start a new job like that is the hardest! i just smile and say "Nice to see you" as in, i'm not admitting if we've met before or not!

back to cobb - i'm wondering how the rest of his day has gone.
