Yesterday was unusual and I'm not sure what is happening with Max. Here are the numbers:

AMPS* 87, +1=164,+2=206, +4.5=237, +6=215 ( I doubled checked that 87)
PMPS 287, +1=331, +2=265, +4=212, +6=202, +9=140

So was his Nadir yesterday at amps? Last night his nadir must have been at +9 or later. What is this saying about his dose?

My mom is back on antibiotics for the UTI. They just have to figure out a way to prevent these.

:lol: :lol: you might as well put him on levemir if he's going to nadir that late. However, he was clearing a bounce and that's just when he reached his lowest point of the bounce clearing. It will be interesting to see if he makes it a habit.

Sending prayers for your mom. I have heard that one reason why the elderly get so many UTIs is they don't stay hydrated. My mom would not drink plain water so we bought her a variety of the flavored ones and she found one she likes so she's drinking more water.

I think I know why he is gaining weight. I used to give him about 2 cans of ff and a tablespoon of baby food. Now he gets fd chicken treats and stella and chewy's. S&C says to feed 1 1/2 cups for his 15 pounds. Just 16 pieces is a quarter of a cup. Then when he gets low I have added hc in addition. Not much extra food will lead to weight gain. He's getting less now and I'm hoping for a 1/2 pound loss in the next couple of months. At least this is something I have control over. Max won't like it though. He was on my bed at 4:15 a.m. again after I ignored his cries.

No green last night or today. At what point now that the bounce has cleared do we call this a failed reduction? Do I give him one more cycle or wait another day?

Hi Elise,

Based on what I've occasionally observed with Eddie, a flat BLUE cycle can basically be the same thing as a flat YELLOW cycle. Maybe he's having a flat cycle before heading down?

Hi Jen. That is definitely a possibility. That's why I think the earliest to take him up would be tomorrow morning or night if he doesn't drop back into green. It's a long time now since he had leveled off in mostly green and blue. He's back to bouncing when he sees green which might be another reason to take it slow.

I guess I will try to keep him from dropping any lower and do the three times under 50. I again didn't see this one coming. I fed him some mc with karo. I added a little hc gravy as I really don't want him to drop under 40. It worked for now as he was 55. I was hoping he would keep in the high green. Now he will bounce for sure. He did eat at +3.5 but I gave him lc and should have tested at +4.

Elise, you should have known all that talk about greens and a dosecrease would trigger a drop! Our kitties read our condos and they are so contrary! I'll show her! She wants greens? I'll give her greens! :lol: I've given up trying to understand Cinco's numbers. I just go with the flow.

I have heard also that once you get a UTI, you are prone to get them over and over. No fun, I know. Sending healing vines for your DM.

Thanks, Tricia. Yes, the UTIs have been recurring for some time. She's been on a small dose of antibiotic for the ecoli that has been working but the last few have been a different type that she likely first got on one of her hospital stays. Thankfully she is not in pain but she becames a bear to deal with and loses her appetite. Being run down just leads to more infections.

I knew Max would go green tonight. I just didn't think he would go that low after not being green much lately. My mistake as the drop from 232 to 111 should have been a clue. Have a nice night, Tricia.

Elise, I wish we knew the definite cause of why our cat's bounce so that we can stop doing whatever is making it happen. I don't understand how or why Rocky is staying in the lower numbers lately either. (Well, he was getting a lot of insulin.) When I see him with a number in the 90s now I freak out. I don't want to be going back up the dosing scale, but if it happens, it happens.

I was aggressive with Rocky's insulin dose for many weeks but it meant feeding him more MC and HC rather than the LC, and I was able to stay really on top of it. The other thing is, I gave up on the Karo for his numbers that were under 50. I just went straight for the extreme HC, the Science Diet 33% carbs, just a tiny, tiny, bit of it, like barely even 1/8 of a can. But it brings the BG up for a few hours and if the cat is already going higher there is probably the potential of going really high.
