"If" she had a little pancreatitis, it can last a very short time and go away. More than once before the fPL was available when one of my cats would become inappetent and not seem to feel right my vet would say it was probably a little p'itits. It would last a few days or a week and go away. If the appy is back and stays back you might not need to test and it might not return. If it is gone the test would be normal. It can wax and wane. Since treatment is only supportive, you could save yourself some money and just monitor her. If the BG returns to normal and so does she in all ways, you can suspect p'itis was the cause.

there is chronic pancreatitis and acute pancreatitis - acute is the dramatic sudden onset and chronic is when it is simmering in the background. punkin had one acute episode and when we were getting him checked, the vet said he'd probably had it chronic for a while.

fingers crossed that she won't need insulin for too long. you've gotten right on it and that is helpful. glad to hear she's feeling better - purring is a good sign.

If you do need to test now or later with the fPL it is best done on a 12 hour fast. If not and you get a result in the gray zone or just barely registering as p"itis you will never know for sure. My Tiffany had a few acute attacks as she battled CRF and lymphoma. Max has the chronic kind. If you don't catch it when active you will never know if she had it.

yeah that vet doctor that I talked to you last night set it off no fasting is necessary

Re: 7/29 Lola amps 171 +2 170 +4 219

fasting is necessary for an accurate test. there are different opinions for diabetic cats - some want the 12 hr test for accuracy, and it's probably best. i scheduled punkin's test for the end of the day when he'd gone about 9 hrs without eating. you want at least 6 and 12 is best. otherwise it won't give an accurate test.

but she wasn't eating yesterday before the blood was drawn, right? so it should be accurate.

Re: 7/29 Lola amps 171 +2 170 +4 219

I was able to talk to the lab once. I don't know why I got through. I fasted about 8 hours before diabetes because I was told the fasting only matters if in the gray zone as it changes things by 10%. It's not a cheap test so you want to fast at least for several hours. If it is high then you know for sure but if in the gray zone not fasting makes it useless. Another frustrating thing about this test is just because they get a high number doesn't mean they are any sicker than a number just barely in the p'itis category. Max has run from 5-50 and didn't seem any worse with a 50. Others have had the same experience.
