Hello everyone!

Yesterday's condo: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=123144

Billie had an awesome night! She is bouncing now, but I count at least 10 hours spent in normal numbers yesterday :-D

I have a question - yesterday morning, I was out of Turducken, so I mixed some 2% chicken with some 11% chicken and lobster to make 5-6ish% food for Billie's first 3 morning meals (then went to the store and stocked up on the Turducken, of course). She loved it, but I'm thinking she is allergic to fish. She did have about 2 teaspoons of the chicken and lobster maybe a week ago with no side effects, but she had a lot more yesterday.

So, last night, I noticed small bumps breaking out on both sides of her neck. There are maybe 8 bumps total. She is itching them. I wouldn't call it excessive itching, but she's itching more often than she usually does. She also had a soft poo yesterday, so I'm thinking it upset her stomach too, but all is normal on the poo front today.

I am assuming that she is having an allergic reaction to the fish ingredients. I'm wondering if I should...

Wait it out and see if it improves? The bumps already seem less bumpy than last night, but I don't want her to be uncomfortable.

Take her to the vet? She gets stressed out going there but recovers quickly.

Try giving her some Zyrtec?

She is acting normal and eating normally - back to Turducken and Chicken pate.

I guess I'm just being neurotic and wondering what other people would do or if anyone has experience with allergies. Any advice is much appreciated! Thank you!!

Update - I talked to the vet and she said to keep an eye on her for now and to bring her in if it gets worse. So, Billie gets to stay home today!

How is Billie doing tonight? I hope the itching has stopped...she very well could be allergic to the fish, especially if this is new for her and the itching/bumps started shortly after eating it...

Re: 8/8 Billie AMPS 358 +3.5 204

Thanks for stopping by, Amy! Billie seems less itchy tonight, and her bumps seem smaller, so that's good.

I ended up having to go to an 18 hour cycle tonight. She had a +12 of 190 and I had to be out until +4, and was afraid she'd do one of her big dives while I was gone. She has gone from ~200 to the 40s in 3 hours or less on a few occasions, and I definitely didn't want that to happen while I was out. So, now she's high, but she's safe...just a little confused about why I am bugging her for a shot in the middle of the night. She got lots of chicken for her trouble.

I hope everyone had a nice night!

I'm glad you figured out so quickly what was causing the bumps. Now you know you need to be sure to read the ingredients list if you try any new foods.

The 18 hour shot cycle is a wonderful tool when you can't be home to test and/or shoot at the regular time. We will probably be using it next weekend when we plan to participate in a chili and rib cook off in a town several hours north of us.

I hope Billie is back to normal in the morning, and that her numbers get back on track, too.

Thanks Tricia! Chili and rib cook off sounds really fun and delicious!! Yes, no more fish for Billie. I read through the ingredients on the Wellness Chicken and Lobster to see if there could be any other offenders, but I definitely think it's the lobster.

She's still itchy today but hopefully it will calm down soon. I am wondering about zyrtec if she's not improving by tonight. Her vet won't be open again till Monday and I don't want her to be itchy all weekend. She seems like she feels okay otherwise. She woke me up with some kisses on the forehead and then hung out in her windowseat bed this morning. Her appetite is good.

Vines to all the cats and beans, and extra come home vines to Theo!!

Gracie is allergic to the Merrick foods with fish and she got bumps and the hair came off her ears.

I don't know about the Zyrtec. I've used Atarax but not sure about Zyrtec.

Hope she's better tomorrow.
