Last Night's Condo

Lookey here! It's a Cinco condo during the daylight hours - even on EDT! :o Don't faint, anyone!

Grumpy kitty is still being less than cooperative. He did eat his first breakfast for DH. Not sure how much bribery was required. A lot was needed for second breakfast. He seemed as though his tummy was upset and just picked at it. I got him to eat a pill pocket with a Pepcid in it, but made the mistake of doing a second pocket for his pain pill, instead of combining, and he wouldn't eat the second. I had to use the pill popper. Not easy any time with him. He has a very stiff neck and can make it virtually impossible to tilt his head back. Add the e-collar into the mix, and you have a challenge. It took a couple tries, but I got it in. I'm almost out of Ondansetron, so I didn't want to give him any, but if he won't eat for me in the next hour, I may give him some. I do think all the drops are doing this. I wish I could call the OV and ask his opinion, but he's on vacation now! I may end up calling the regular vet, but they don't know anything about his current treatment really - they get reports, but I'm sure they just get filed. The way it works there is there are multiple vets and you rarely see the same one twice in a row. I wish I had been taking him to our wonderful vets in Sacramento, but it's 1+ hours each way and he's such a lousy traveller. :YMSIGH: :YMSIGH:

Sasha ate well for me this morning and went right btb. She's been lazy all day lately, but livened up a little last evening and even came downstairs for a snack and some attention. :-D Of course, she spent half the time hissing at Harvey, so I don't know how much she enjoyed it!

No appointments today, but I do have to run to Petsmart again. When I was there yesterday I forgot to get some Hill's TD and I'm almost out. Since Harvey will be the only one home all weekend, I'll be leaving a dispenser of dry for him, a well as some moist in the timed feeder, so I need to have enough dry to leave! I can't believe it slipped my mind and now I have to do the 25 minute drive each way for just that. I wish Petco carried it. They're only 10 minutes away. Oh well. There are worse problems I could have, for sure.

I touched base with Dawn yesterday, letting her know when we expect to drop the kitties off with her. I warned her about Cinco's massive amount of eyedrops and assured her I wouldn't mind paying extra, since it's very time consuming. She wasn't concerned about it and said we could work that out when I see her. I'm so happy to have her!! :-D :-D :-D

Well, I need to get moving on all the little chores that need to be done before we take off for the weekend. I'm really looking forward to this - I feel like I don't have to worry constantly about the kitties while I'm gone and will be able to relax! What a concept!

Sending healing vines to all in need, and hugs to all their beans. :YMHUG: Still thinking of Lyresa, her DH and Dakota & crew missing KT. Special vines to J.D., Tess and Zener, and prayers to Amy's DF.

What's the name of the new eyedrop for Cinco? Sure sounds like there might be something about it that's affecting his tummy

Was good to see that the pressure in his eye had returned to normal yesterday! Now if you can just get his numbers to return to more "normal" too, I'm sure you'll be thrilled!!

Nice nadir last night, and then the dreaded bounce this morning...but he's clearing it nicely! :-D

You and I need to find a time machine so we can go back a month or 2...back to when our kitties BG almost made sense!!

Glad to hear Dawn's so willing to work with you on all those eyedrops! You sure found a jewel when you found her! I know it has to make it so much easier on you when you're gone to know that everyone is getting cared for properly instead of taking pot luck at the vets!

Have a great Fursday Tricia! I'm with you....I wish our PetCo would carry more variety too but they don't seem to be as big as PetsMart

Re: 8/21 Cinco AMPS 242 +3 133 +5 107 +6 130

Chris, the newest drop is called Timolol. In reading the tiny print on the insert, it does say one possible side effect is nausea. Swell! I just know the regular vet is going to be difficult about prescribing an anti-nausea med without seeing him. :YMSIGH:

I'd love to have his numbers "normal" - as soon as I know what "normal" is! I'm guessing the upset tummy is taking him back up today. I thought we might make it to the lagoon, but it's looking less likely now. I think I'll give him a poke break the rest of the day. Wish I could give him an eyedrop break, too!

Oh..yeah on the list of side effects, it lists nausea, diarrhea, loss of appetite, upset stomach

Poor Cinco probably has an upset tummy on top of the indignities of wearing the collar of shame and having to have all those eyedrops.

Poor Cinco. I hope he won't have to keep taking the new eye drops very long. I'm glad Sasha ate for you this morning. Enjoy your trip.

Hi Trisha,
Just checking in, sending vines for Cinco and Sasha, and wishing you a great weekend. You are really lucky to have found Dawn.

Hugs and scritches,

Ella & Rusty

Ondansetron is an anti-nausea drug. Yep, Dawn is a keeper. :-D That's great that the pressure in his eye was normal. :-D Almost made the lagoon, Cinco, well done! Sending a bunch of appy vines. Have a fun and relaxing weekend, Tricia!
Liz

I hope Cinco's tummy has settled by now. Since the OV prescribed the drops, can he (or someone in his office) prescribe the anti-nausea meds? I would call there first to see if they can help. I hope he doesn't need these new drops for too long!

Thanks for the visits, Chris, Carla, Ella, Liz and Amy.

The bad news is I gave Cinco some Ondansetron and he is still acting nauseated and refusing food.

The good news is I called his regular vet's office and they agreed to give me some more. They are 8 mg, like the ones I had before, but much smaller. I've only been giving 1 mg, but the vet said to give 1/2 tablet every 8-12 hours (4 mg). I checked on Tanya's site, and found the same info there. So maybe I haven't been giving him enough.

The bad news is I also read on Tanya's site that Ondansetron can cut the effectiveness of Tramadol by up to 50%!  (at least, in people).

The good news (on another subject) is that the vet's office had Hill's Feline TD in stock and sold me a bag, even though my script was from another vet, so I did not have to go all the way to Petsmart (the vet is only 5 miiles away). :-D

Amy, Cinco's ophthalmologist left on vacation today. He won't be back till the day after Labor Day. As it's only a two person office, his tech is gone, too, and the office is closed. Cinco is to continue with all the drops at least until we see him again on the 2nd of September.

I took Sasha's sock and vest off today to wash them. There was tons of fur and skin stuck to them that had come off her. I took a dry, soft washcloth and gently brushed it over her where the fur is coming out and the skin is peeling. I guess it felt pretty good, cause she was purring her little head off and had her head back and her eyes closed in ecstasy! I got a lot of loose stuff off her, even though I was using a feather-light touch to avoid irritating the skin. Then I put a clean sock on her. It was pretty stretched out, and I caught her licking some of the bare skin, so I put one of the doggie t-shirts over it. The vest is in the dryer and will go back on her when it's done. I hope this stage is over soon, poor little thing. She isn't acting uncomfortable, but she does grab any opportunity to lick or scratch that area, so I have to be very careful to keep it covered.

Thanks for all the vines. We can use all we can get!

Tricia, l mg of ondanssetron wasn't enough for Max. I give him 2mg BID. I hope you have a good time wherever it is you are going.

Thanks, Elise. I agree he needs more. I did give him the 4mg the vet suggested later this evening, and an hour later he ate about half as much as he normally does for his evening snack.

We are going to Reno for the weekend. My husband's bowling league goes up there twice a year at season's end for sweepers. It's always a good time, and this trip I am a little less stressed about the cats because they are gong to Dawn. Only a little less, though, because Cinco has so much going on right now. I feel sorry for Dawn, as I've written two pages of instructions, included a chart to keep track of his eye drops, a copy of the spreadsheet to keep track of his numbers, a copy of the most recent summary from the OV, and a copy of the sticky on handling low numbers. That last is not because I don't think she could handle them, but I want her to understand how we deal with them. No, I'm not an obsessive, helicopter mom at all!

I guarantee Dawn will appreciate all the instructions. At least I sure would be happy to have them because I would know exactly what to do. I hope Cinco feels better before you leave. The vet on the lymphoma list told me I could give Max 4mg of ondansetron if needed also.
