J.D. could use some vines today. He ate well yesterday, and he happily ate some spoon fed food and some cat treats in the middle of the night, but isn't really interested in eating on his own this morning. He did this before: on Monday he ate really well and on Tuesday didn't. I guess it's his pancreatitis.

I did a blood ketone test and got a 0.2 and that scared me, but I Googled it and it is normal.

We went for one walk this morning.

I need to log off and get to tbp.

Please send any extra vines you have to J.D. He could use some today.

Can someone please help me, before I start to get really scared?

J.D. keeps laying down after his shots (Levemir and R), like he did on Tuesday when I took him to the vet. I gave him 100ml of fluids on Tuesday night. He was fine on Wednesday. Today, he was laying down a bunch again.
I tested his blood ketones this morning because of it, and he was 0.2. Tonight he is 0.5. I just gave him 50ml of fluids along with 20ml of MaxCal. His urine ketones are negative. I just want his ketones to come down. I have to work tomorrow. I don't know how I can get more insulin into him until tomorrow night. I can feed him a lot.

I don't want to worry, but I am.

Any calming vines or support or guidance available is much appreciated.

I just got it covered that I can bring J.D. to work with me, tomorrow.
I have no one to cover a late shift, which I can do now, and the person who is allergic to cats, I just found out, will not be in, tomorrow. I can give him an increase tomorrow morning. Whew!

I also tested him on the Nova Max with the glucose test strips right after my PMPS test with the Arkray Vital and got a 347.

We went for a short walk. He is out on the deck drinking from his watering can.

I am much relieved that I can increase his insulin and take him to work tomorrow.

Thanks. I'm on the phone trying to find a pharmacy that sells the Nova Max Blood Ketone test strips.

Dyana, sending comfort vines to you and better appy, lower BG and lower ketone vines to JD. Glad you'll be able to take him to work with you tomorrow. I hope he's a little more energetic soon too.

according to the latest studies, a blood ketone concentration of DKA is more likely to be present at 2.4 and 2.55.

When can I give him more R? Do I have to wait the full 4 hours between doses?

Arkray Vital was 427 at +2.5 and Nova Max was 328 (I don't know why they are 100 points different).

He just went into my bedroom. I could use to do that, too. Tears.

yeah, well... he probably feels kind of yucky when his numbers are that high. :cry:

what's his typical R curve look like (onset, nadir, duration)?


ETA: meters are so "off" at high numbers that a difference of 100 points doesn't surprise or concern me.

is your "zero line" measurement for R more or less than your "one drop" measurement?

I guess look at 07/26 and 07/30 through 08/01. That's just what I flipped my mouse to.
I'm going to test him again now.

calm down, dyana. we need to get this figured out.

you're using a blood ketone meter? the blood ketone meter should give you a numerical value.

or are you using urine strips for measuring ketones?

whew! ok, so LO is normal?!?! i didn't know that.

yes, wait til at least 4 hours after the first R before giving any more.
 
If test result is lower than 0.1 mmol/L (Ket), the
monitor displays “LO.” No action is required.

if he's come down considerably by +4 how about forgetting the plan to shoot more R tonight?

i'd love to see you go to bed and not HAVE to get up any more tonight to monitor. i think it would do you a world of good.

Okay. But, he will go up again. Maybe, I will sleep for 4 hours, and test and see how he is then.
