Hello LL!!

Yesterday's condo: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=124265

Thank you for all the vines and advice about Billie's coughing/itching! After two doses of the Clavamox, her skin actually seems to be calming down. I definitely notice improvement from yesterday. And, I only heard her cough once this morning. It wasn't a fit, just a single cough...paws crossed that the AB is helping! I think it's making her feel a little yucky, because her appy is off and she is sleeping a lot, but the extra sleep will probably help. She hardly ate her AMPS breakfast but got up from a nap, had a big yawn, then trotted off urgently to the kitchen for a second breakfast a few hours later, so she must have felt hungry then. I'm just going to leave food out most of the day so she can eat whenever she feels hungry. Her vet should be calling me later with bloodwork results.

I hope everyone has a nice day! Vines to all the cats and beans in need of vines.

Great to hear that Billie is feeling better. Hopefully the AB will do the trick for the cough as well. Have a great day!

Thanks for visiting, Melissa!!

Billie's bloodwork came back looking surprisingly great, aside from a very high eosinophil count. It's at 3461 and normal range is listed 90-2180. The vet said this makes sense considering the allergies. Aside from that, almost everything is in normal range. Her AST is 2 points below normal and her chloride is 3 points below normal, but I don't think that's anything to worry about? And of course, her glucose was high at the vet. I don't have time tonight, but tomorrow I want to add a labs tab to our spreadsheet and post her bloodwork from the past few CBCs.

She had a couple coughing fits tonight  but her hives seem to be improving. I hope the coughing gets better too.

Vines to all the cats and beans in need tonight!

Re: 8/28 Billie PMPS 269 bloodwork good but high eosinophil

Hi Deanna,

I'm not an expert by any means. Just a thought from our experience: Clare had high eosinophils and it turned out to be, at least to some extent, parasites. An ultrasound showed a thickening of the walls of her bowel, consistent with worms/parasites. Once she was dewormed her count came down. Any chance that Billie might have been exposed to fleas/tapeworm or etc.?

Re: 8/28 Billie PMPS 269 bloodwork good but high eosinophil

Hi Georgette! Thanks for the input! Sorry to hear that Clare had parasites. The vet checked Billie for fleas twice and did not find any. I haven't found any either, but there's always a possibility... She doesn't go outside, but there are other pets in the building, so there's a chance someone else could have brought them in. I'll keep an eye out for that.

Re: 8/28 Billie PMPS 269 bloodwork good but high eosinophil

Hi Deanna,

I hope someone else will correct me if I'm wrong about this. I think that fleas can have tapeworm eggs on them, and if a cat ingests the fleas they might develop a tapeworm. That didn't happen to Clare, but it happened to our other cat, Coral. A simple worming was the cure.

Re: 8/28 Billie PMPS 269 bloodwork good but high eosinophil

Hi Deanna:

Are you giving Billie the AB with food or after feeding? I found with Sasha that if I gave it before or with a meal, she ended up with an upset tummy. I started giving it about an hour after she ate, and no more upset tummy. It does say to give with food on our packaging.

I'm glad the BW looked mostly good and the cough is subsiding. Sending healing vines that it will go away completely.

Georgette, you're right about ingested fleas and tapeworm, as far as I know. I will ask the vet about that possibility! I just combed through her fur looking for fleas, and I didn't find anything suspicious, but you never know.

Tricia, thanks for the vines! I have been giving the AB pretty much right after Billie eats her PS meal. I usually test, get her started eating, sneak in with the shot while she is eating, let her finish eating, then prepare the milk and Clavamox concoction. I can try spacing it out a bit more. Maybe that will help. Again, tonight, she wasn't very hungry at PS but she got hungry around +4 (a lot like this morning).

Re: 8/28 Billie PMPS 269 bloodwork good but high eosinophil

I'm glad Billies bloodwork came back really good. You probably could have predicted her eosinophils would be high. I hope the a/b will help and she will start to do better.

Sometimes acidopholus helps prevent gi problems with antibiotics with cats just as with people.
