I talked to Billie's vet, and he is putting in a referral to the specialty practice today. I can call after 4pm to schedule an appointment. He thinks it makes sense to start with the internal medicine specialist before the dermatologist because of the cough, although I'm not sure about that, because the dermatologist also specializes in allergic disorders and it really seems like we're dealing with allergies - hives, coughing, high eosinophil count.

Amy asked about litter changes a couple days ago, and that got me thinking. I have always used the same two litter brands (Scoop Away and Fresh Step) but they are both very perfumey. And, Billie was coughing while using the litter box this morning. So, I got new litter and a new litter box today - Dr. Elsey's Respiratory Relief. There are a lot of great reviews on it from kitties and beans with asthma and allergies, so it's worth a try!

Billie's appy is still not 100% but definitely better than yesterday, so that's good. And, she had a perfect poo!

Just wanted to let you know that I've been using Dr. Elsey's Respiratory Relief litter for a couple of years now, and both my cats with breathing issues are doing better since the change. It's a little pricey, but Petsmart often puts it on sale, and there's a $1.00 off coupon in the little booklet that comes in every bag. I hope it helps Billie.

Oh, cool! Thanks Tricia! That's awesome. I hope it helps for Billie. It's probably a good idea to use this stuff no matter what. Billie has yet to christen the new litter box, but Brooklyn let me know that she approves.

We have an appointment with the dermatology/allergy specialist on Tuesday morning. I was given the choice of where to start - internal medicine or dermatology - and I went with dermatology. Of course, now I'm thinking maybe we should start with internal medicine. Indecision and second guessing run in my family :roll: :lol: I can still change my mind. But I was thinking it would make sense to start from the allergy approach because if we can find out what is causing the reaction and get rid of it, the problem will be solved - assuming it is an allergic issue, of course. It sure seems like one.

I'm glad you're able to get into a specialist, and I think you made the right call with dermatology. Everything points to an allergy of some sort. There's just so darn many potential allergens, you could drive yourself crazy trying to pin it down! Hopefully they can at least narrow down the potential culprits.

Glad to read that her appy is better and that she had a good poo today!

I suppose ice cream is on the no-no list for her now for purpose of eliminating allergies? Poor baby. Hopefully you can find an allergen-free high carb option to "treat" her with when necessary.

Thank you Jen!! Yes, ice cream is a no no at the moment...so is parmesan! No wonder Billie was on a hunger strike. I'll still revert to ice cream if I'm dealing with low numbers and really need it. She thinks gravy is boring and agrees with Eddie that karo is some sort of poison. I'm just eliminating everything that could be an allergen for now. We'll see what happens!
