Last Night:
HI PMPS
392 +2.5
268 +3.5
257 +5
519 +10

I have 4 litter boxes and J.D. mainly is the only one that uses the big storage container litter box and there was some softish looking medium sized poo in there this morning, so I am thinking it was J.D.'s.

J.D. ate about 1/4 can of MC FF Medleys at +10, so he got to skip that syringe feeding. We cuddled in bed with some purrs and rumbling tummy (from J.D.) until +11, when I got up and started to prepare for the day.

J.D. went for a really long walk this morning, and peed 4 times and pooed twice (one grape sized condensed poo, and one smallish but more normally formed poo).

I have to go... to tbp..

Um, I didn't get an answer to my Zantac question in my condo last night, so I just gave him two of the smaller pieces which are probably less than one of the bigger pieces.

I hope everyone has a good day.

Re: 09/11 J.D. AMPS HI, +1 533

Hi, Dyana, it sounds like J.D. is having a great start to the day! LB action, eating fuds, a 'productive' walk, cuddles and purrs ~ wonderful!
I hope you have a good day at work today :-D

Hi Dyana:

From Tanya's site, here is the answer to your SEB question:

Slippery Elm Bark Cautions
Do not give slippery elm bark at the same time as any other medications or supplements - as University of Maryland Medical Center explains, it can inhibit the absorption of the medications. It is therefore best to give it 1-2 hours before or after any other medications (especially antibiotics), and ideally on an empty stomach, although it is safe to sprinkle it on food if you wish.
Slippery elm bark also contains calcium, so it is probably safer not to use it if your cat has hypercalcaemia.

Regarding the Zantac, here is what she says:
Ranitidine Dosages
One reason why people may decide not to use ranitidine is that it usually has to be given twice a day, whereas famotidine is usually only given once every other day, or occasionally once a day.
The usual dose is 0.25 to 1.00 mg per pound (0.5 - 2.00 mg per kg) every 8-12 hours, though most people find twice a day is fine.
You therefore would give a 10lb (4.5kg) cat 2.5 - 10 mg twice a day.
The standard size pill is 75mg, so for a 10 lb (4.5kg) cat who is getting the higher dose, it is usually easiest simply to give an eighth of a tablet twice a day (i.e. 9.375 mg, or a little under 10 mg).
Some people give up to twice this amount, but as with famotidine, I suggest starting low and increasing the dose if necessary since ranitidine is also excreted by the kidneys. Be guided by your vet.

I interpret that to mean that it's okay to give a smidge more than the 1/8 of a tablet. I wouldn't worry about being exact - just get it as close as you can. Just my two cents' worth.

Glad to read so about so much poo action! Also eating on his own! Great news. Sending more poo and appy vines, just in case!

Re: 09/11 J.D. AMPS HI, +1 533

Good start today, I hope J.D. keeps up the good output!

As for the Zantec I'd use the small pieces to add up to a 1/8th. and try to shave a little off the larger ones. It isn't terribly exact when you cut that small anyway. As I said the other day, I have better luck w/ a single edge razor blade.

Thank you for the information. I need to get a single edged razor blade.

J.D. gave me two small poo prezzies, but I want to see regular sized poo prezzies.
He ate over 1/2 can of MC FF Medleys at PMPS, so he gets to skip his first syringe feeding.

I called the Nutritionist vet he saw and she said I can increase his Benefiber to more than 1/16th tsp. if I want, but dang I forgot to ask her how much. I'll just try 1/8th tsp. twice a day. She also said again that I can try 1.5 tsp. of pumpkin BID or 1/2 teaspoon of crushed Fiber One Cereal if I want to bulk up his stools. I'll just try the increased Benefiber for right now.

I did eventually give him one syringe of food as it had his Benefiber already mixed in and I gave him his other supplements, so maybe I'll give him some SEB at his last feeding in a little over 2 hours from now.

Ginger ate his first pill pocket with Zantac and Ondansetron in it, so her tummy will be okay, tonight.

I'm off to WalMart to try to find razor blades and get more MC Medleys, and maybe pick up a can of pumpkin for another day.

Hi Dyana,
Sorry to miss J.D.'s condo for a few days, but it looks like he is doing OK. Good luck with the meds. You can buy single-edge razor blades in a hardware store (they are good for scraping paint off glass).

Hugs and scritches,

Ella & Rusty

Yay for some eating and some poos...but yes, we MamaBeans always want more, more, more!! I hope J. D. is feeling well tonight...

Great idea on a single edged razor blade, gosh, we learn so much visiting condos! I used one tonight to cut a tiny sliver of cypro for Zener and it was like magic.

i'd just double-check on the Fiber one and Benefiber - don't they have sugar of any sort in them? seems like most commercial cereals do.

i haven't had a chance to check on JD recently with all the new people, but i'm thinking of you and sending you and JD my best. ginger too. :YMHUG:

Yes, single edge razor blades are usually in the hardware department. They are usually coated w/ oil to prevent rust. Just wipe them w/ alcohol to clean it off. i keep mine in a strip container w/ one of the silica dry packs from a vitamin bottle.
