That "+3" is a true "fuds +2.5" reading since the bean grabbed a little extra sleep this morning.....Goooooooo, Ms P!! Trix's feeling great (anti-jinx), gelcaps have gone smoothly (huge anti-jinx), and appy is very happy (anti-jinx).

I'm off today...hoping to get caught up a bit here in LL and around the house. But, I could use an extra dose of LL prayers, which I know are already flowing so steadily. My Dad's tumor marker tests were up quite a bit from his pre-treatment tests (which were already very high). Of course I've been researching, and I see that these markers are really not very reliable, especially as a stand-alone test, and I also see that there can be a big surge caused by tumor death during the beginning of treatment (the blood was drawn for these tests right before his 3rd round of chemo started). And, on top of that, my Dad just happened to find out the results online on his own (the lab posts patient records online) - so he hasn't talked to the doc yet. Ugh. Needless to say, though, everyone is currently in a new state of shell-shockedness and we're back in the torturous land of limbo until we get more solid answers about what this means. In the meantime, I've forwarded lots of links to him about surges and flares and such. Cancer sucks, and I'm once again side-tracked.

Have a great day, LL!

I didn't have access to my marker numbers 'til I saw my onc before each treatment. Whew, I'm glad! But you're right. They are not always reliable clues. Plus it's true that they often go up during treatment. I never wanted to know what mine were until we got near the end of the treatment schedule....unless as I told my doctor, "There's something you think I ought to be concerned about." Just didn't want to make for unnecessary worry.

Sending light to all of you that this up tick is just the natural order at the early stages of chemo. And, yup, cancer sucks. So does the treatment. Sorta like killing gnats with a shotgun. A lot of collateral damage! Honest, though, you'll all get through this. One step at a time. (with a few back steps along the way!)
