Not much new... Tink's still trying to drive me batty with completely unpredictable numbers. I'd threatened to increase this weekend so he went low on 10/30. Been pretty high since then, except last night where we saw a decent +7 - though I worry he might be starting a bounce from it now. ohmygod_smile

Hoppy isn't eating again. Did this for a day a week or two ago, then was back to normal. I thought maybe his mouth was bothering him - but he'll eat kibble (Evo). He just wont/cant eat canned. It's weird - he WANTS to eat it, but it's like he can't. Begs, gets excited, sniffs it, mouths it a little... but then walks away. I tried adding water, cuz he'll lick the juice, but he didn't want it that way either. Even the kibble takes him FOREVER to eat (and of course I have to stand guard). I tried looking in his mouth but couldn't see much. Guess we'll head to the vet if he's not eating better by this evening. He can't stand to lose any more weight. He's dropped from 14+ (fatty) to 9.6lb over the past year. He's at a pretty good weight now (I think I'd rather see him at 10 though), but definitely doesn't need to lose any more.

The symptoms you describe sound exactly the same as when my cat remi had nausea (with his pancreatitis). He would want food but would then change his mind as soon as I put it down. He would lick his lips a lot and swallow. I would definitely mention it to your vet. If it is this he can prescribe anti nausea meds such as ondansetron or cerenia (usually given if vomiting). These will help your cat to keep eating.

It could be nausea that's bothering Hoppy - the behavior sounds just like Sasha has been doing after her chemo - she'll lick at the moist food, then walk away. She'll eat the dry, but slowly, and not a lot of it. I would definitely get it checked out if it continues. Did you offer him baby food? Sometimes they'll eat that, even if they're feeling off.

Isn't it amazing how dosecrease threats spur an FD kitty to action? So if they have that much control over their BGs, why the heck don't they bring them down when you ask them too? I really think cats have something in their mission statement about making their beans crazy. They are so good at it!

I've not tried baby food - might do that. I just remembered I also have some Instinct raw bites in the freezer - he might like those. He's always struggled with eating the canned food - he can't get "bites" the way my two hoover cats (um, that would be Tink and Tarzan) do. Venus licks it till it's gone. Hoppy kinda mouths it, and then chews feverishly once he gets some in his mouth. It's been like this since we switched to canned a year ago with Tink's dx. I think part of it is that he's at a weird angle. His head is only a few inches from the floor, due to his front legs being deformed. So I don't know that eating out of a bowl is comfortable for him. He prefers a plate - so I've been feeding him on one. But he still struggles. I'll try the raw bites ( I think that's why he likes the kibble - he can get small pieces in his mouth easier) and the baby food - but it's sounding like perhaps a vet visit is in order.

And yes... I'm pretty confident that Tink's primary goal in life is to drive me completely insane before he leaves this earth. :lol:

I just heard Tink snickering and gleefully rubbing his little front paws together all the way at my house. He's so thrilled to be vexing you. :lol: I don't think I"ve ever used the word "vexing" before, but it just seemed to fit! ;-)

saw your comment in the old Tink condo about R. Yes, Humulin R or Novolin R are both quick-acting insulins that can be used with cats as a bolus (secondary) insulin. I bought one vial for punkin of the Humulin R and used the same vial for the next year and a half, then gave it away after he passed away. Too bad you tossed yours, but at least it's cheap.

I'm gonna re-check the fridge... but I'm 99% sure I tossed it along with the old vial of Lantus ohmygod_smile which was over 6mo old at the time (and we hadn't switched to Lantus yet).

And I'm somehow not surprised if you heard him snickering at me. :roll: Based on his numbers, sometimes I wonder if they sit around watching the cooking channel and then trying out recipes or something. :lol:
