Ok - appetite sketchy, but not horrible. She probably ate about the normal amount over 1 1/2 hrs with a lot of encouragement (unlike yesterday morning when she scarfed it all down on her own).

Vet tech (who was DPS last week) is stopping by to change a bandage on one of the other cats (Blue), and Kasha is NOT going to like seeing her. Not sure how upset she'll be, guess I'll find out when I get home.

Third cat in the house (Big White Cat) is not long for this world :( I have a call into the vet today to see if he'll consider giving steroids, since they seem to be the only thing that helps. No idea what's wrong with him.

Sad house today.

awwwwwww, thats an awful lot going on for you and your furry friends. Im sorry. Do all the cats get along? Wouldnt it be great to just have one big snuggle fest and forget about it all for a bit.

Whats wrong with big white cat that you think steroids would be good?

Re: 5/5 Kasha AMPS 404 .5 units

No idea what's wrong with Big Cat. All of his tests came back fine, but he started to drop weigh and lose his appetite at the same time Kasha got diagnosed with diabetes and Blue got diagnosed with the foot tumor (that subsequently became necrotic and requires constant bandaging now or it bleeds everywhere). Literally - all of that happened at once.

We've been the vet nearly weekly for one or more cats for the last couple months and my resources are running very, very thin (both time, money and sanity). Blue has a specialist appt on Monday to see if we can amputate his foot - otherwise, not many options due to the position of the tumor. I wasn't considering amputation, but he's so very lively and the foot is starting to really go bad... I don't know what else to do.

Big Cat is at the point where I think any more testing is going to be very expensive because all the obvious tests showed nothing. We've been to the vet so many times. I have a pretty good vet, served me well up till now (been going to the practice for 17 yrs). As a last ditch trial before my trip, he tried prednisone injections because there were some minor signs of inflammation. That helped more than anything. But the injections only help for about 48 hrs and not long term solution. So... I have a prescription for cyproheptadine (sp?) for him to improve his appetite, but 2 of the last 3 times I gave it to him he vomited right after. So, that's not helping much anymore. We might be passed the point of no return now. He's really slowing down. I wanted him to hang on till my ex could come see him and say goodbye (we found Blue and Big Cat when we lived together years ago). But it's not looking good. I don't want to drag him around and subject him to the terror of the vet any more than I have to - he doesn't seem to be in pain as much as just winding down. I'm the one who's sad about it.

The two boys get along -they are brothers we found together, abandoned on the corner of my street. 2 beautiful big white kitties. Odd that they would both come down with some crazy illness/tumor at the same time.

Kasha considers them her inferiors and will never willingly cuddle near them. She was there first and that's that.

Dinner was iffy. Kasha eventually ate it all, with some chicken dust encouragement, but she was far from excited about it. FF Chopped Grill or whatever it was she liked a lot one time and now is indifferent to. She was hiding behind the couch when I came home - stressing over the vet tech visit earlier today, I assume. Even though the visit wasn't for her this time.

Update on civilian cats: Big White Cat ate a little dry food that I still had around and tried to eat some Feline Greenies treats, which he used to like. He got very little food down, but to see him interested in food at least was nice. His teeth aren't good, but the vet insists that's not the cause of his troubles. Actually said it's the least of his problems right now. Vet tech came over to change Blue's bandage today - hopefully we won't need to change again before his vet appt on Monday morning.

it's good to see the numbers coming down tonight. Hopefully tomorrow Kasha will have a good starting point and can find some blue and some green!

Boy, it sounds like you have a lot on your plate.

Yeah - there's a lot going on right now. To think I thought I was stressed before all the cat stuff happened! But I'm going to pick up some oral steroids for Big Cat tomorrow. I didn't want to try this originally, but now I'm thinking about doing whatever it takes to make him comfortable. I don't know how much time I have left with him, but if this relieves his suffering... I'm not sure how much (or if) he's suffering, per se, but he's just definitely not the cat I've known for nearly 14 years - in the last 2 months he's just melted away, but doesn't show signs of acute pain or anything. It's a mystery. I thought at first it could be asthma, but my vet said he saw no signs of it. Then I thought - could it be heartworm? this is what I do... Research and drive myself crazy. But even if it is one of the those things, steroids are used for treatment of both in cats, and prednisone helped before... so for now, it's worth trying.
