I also wanted to draw your attention to this website http://www.catinfo.org/feline_urinary_tract_health.htm
where there is a clear distinction made btw a UTI and a cystitis (which Tizon also got). You might want to have a look at that.Tizon was Dx in March 09. PZI Summit from June to Aug 1/09. Lantus from Aug 1/09 to September 25/09. Currently diet controlled!
Hi Helene and Tizon,

Thanks for that link on UTI and cystitis. Very interesting and oh my, that poor kitty what he went thru! It's very strange with Maggie, as her urine deposits seem fine. They are large, rather than small and not frequent, as in the beginning. The problem she has are with a bowel movement. I keep adding a little Miralax to her food, but she rarely eats all of what's in the bowl. She licks the juice, so I then add some to her baby food treat and still no bm. I've been in touch with the Vet, and he's examined her. If no bm by Monday, I'll take her to the vet.

Re: 5/15 Ann & Maggie AMPS 120

Sounds like a wise plan....hoping she will do something before then though....(ABs usually have the opposite effect though. It's so strange....kitties usually get diarrhea and thus, the need for probitoics...) I hope she starts feeling better real soon Ann... :YMHUG:

Re: 5/15 Ann & Maggie AMPS 120

Hi Ann,
Just checking in to see how things have been going.
Sorry to hear about the poops (or lack of! ). It sounds like she is not eating all that well either. Could be the a/b. You mentioned yesterday you were afraid to give the mirtz in case she is blocked up. You might want to consider if she is not eating well that there is actually nothing (or very little) to come out. Something has to go in, in order to come out. Ya?! ;-)

Try and make sure she is getting a good amount of fluids with the miralax. years ago I tried it with Latte and gave it in a spoon of baby food. It didnt work out so well for her. I now use lactulose (I think miralax is probably better), because I cant be guaranteed she will eat enough food/fluids WITH it. I dont want the experience we had years ago (runs, more constipation, and vomit). You could talk to the vet about switching. You could also give it more often (twice/day). Usually these medicines are dose to effect.

Heres to hoping for a good deposit in the LB verra verra soon!

Re: 5/15 Ann & Maggie AMPS 120

Thanks Carolyn; makes sense about not much going in, so nothing can come out! I may give her a Mirtz today after I run a few errands. i like to be home when she's on it. I think they tend to want to eat nonstop on it. It really is effective for making them eat, but the side effects can be hard on some cats.

Re: 5/15 Ann & Maggie AMPS 120

Can you give a little LESS of the mirtz?
I dont use mirtz, but cypro. I know the recommended dose by vets is WAAAAAAAAY too high for Latte (and most other cats). I end up giving her 1/4 of the suggested dose. You could just shave a little off the pill and see if it makes her a little less hungry...trial and error.

Re: 5/15 Ann & Maggie AMPS 120

I don't recall how much of the Miralax you're giving. I would make sure you're adding enough water to Maggie's food that the Miralax is dissolving. I would give Gabby 1/8 teas. x2/day. Others will start with 1/4 teas. Especially with a UTI, more water will be helpful.

Re: 5/15 Ann & Maggie AMPS 120

Thanks everyone; the instructions were to give 1/4 tsp/day, but this gave her bad stomach cramps, so another Vet in same clinic said 1/8 tsp. I'm going to try some tuna oil as soon as I can get away. She does have one bad tooth which could be why she's not eating. She'll have some dental work when she recuperates from the UTI.

Re: 5/15 Ann & Maggie AMPS 120; +5 119

Hi, Finally she did poop, very soft stool, so thank goodness I don't need to take her in Monday for an enema. It took very, very small amounts of the Miralax over time mixed in with her food as she's a grazer. I didn't even know she had made a bm until I found some on her blanket and another area. I'd like to use a wipe on her, but she's fast asleep so later. Thanks everyone for all the suggestions.

Thanks Michelle and everyone. Finally she did it! Now she won't probably go for a while. I was going to try and give her a partial bath, but the pet wipes helped enough for now.
