I really hope that's a bounce and not because something is wrong - she is still sounding a little congested, on and off. This has happened before (probably for years - not frequently, but once in a while) and I probably didn't identify it as congestion. On one of her last vet visits, the vet said something about Kasha gagging a little when she pressed on her throat and I asked what that meant - she said probably post-nasal drip or something... Which is what it sounds like, I guess. I just never know for sure if they experience the same kinds of things that we do - or rather, I assume they do, but I figure if I say that to the vet they will tell me that cats are different somehow.

Looking at her SS with my bleary eyes this AM, a bounce really does seem likely. I don't know how it was that I fell asleep before I could get her +5 - I must have been really, REALLY tired if a 67 at +4 couldn't make me stay awake for +5... Geez... I wonder how low she went! When I woke on the couch at 2 am or so, she was eating and eating...

She ate ok this morning - about 1 1/2 Tbsp FF (I'd prefer she ate at least 2 Tbsp, but...). She hasn't been eating as much at shot time lately - I think I should just try to get comfortable with that and not force her so much... She does seem to eat plenty over the course of the day and I don't really want meal time to be stressful for her.

I'm really tired today. Gave the shot a few minutes late (between 5 and 10 max) because I just couldn't get out of bed... It's Thursday, right? One more day of work this week after today...

Blue's fine, I guess - I have to go clean his LB again, if that's an indicator. I didn't take him out of the cage last night cuz I was just so tired I was afraid I'd fall asleep and he still needs to be watched when he's out. Poor little prisoner. He's so good natured. What a good little boy...

Re: 6/24 Kasha AMPS 255

Sounds like you need a break and a vacation from real life. But the kitties are doing well, so allow yourself some sleep time and don't feel bad about it.

Morning or crack of dawn for me. I understand the fatigue with your worry over Kasha and Blue, as you have double duty. Blue is amazing with his progress. I bet it's a bounce with Kasha. I was awakened at 11:30 am to freshen up Maggie's food but was too tired to get a bg. I think I'd better get that 2 container feeder. She had some food in a bowl on the sofa but wanted fresh from the can? It sure sounds like you could use some help. You are doing great with both of them.

From the way you described Kasha's eating last night and trying to fill in the blanks between +4 and +9, I do think her numbers dropped. Your AM numbers look like a bounce. Looking at your +1.5, I also think it will clear quickly (i.e., there's no food spike).

Hi Krys, The day after tomorrow is the weekend, and you'll be able to get in some naps during the day. Until then, hang in there. Kasha sounds OK, and Blue is doing well. You are handling everything beautifully. Hope you have a no-stress day.

Ok, that's a better PS...

She ate approx 1 1/2 Tbsp FF dinner. Almost every bit of food I'd left out was gone - bowls nearly licked clean. She ate her last Baytril today - # 42... Crazy. Now I'll worry about whether the infection is really gone. Have to make an appt for a culture next week to verify that she cultures clean.

I made an appointment for her to be groomed next Wednesday. And by "groomed" - I mean virtually shaved into a lion cut. She's gorgeous with her super long thick hair, but that soft dense undercoat mats constantly and it's impossible to keep free of tangles and mats. She's adorable as a little lion plus fewer hairballs - win-win. The vet shaved her down last time cuz her mats were so bad... This time I had to find a groomer - it was a bit difficult.

The groomer recommended by one of my vet techs called back today. She asked if Kasha's front claws were declawed. I said no, we don't believe in declawing. She said she only grooms cats that have the front declawed. I was a little annoyed, but then she explained that she gets cat scratch fever if she as much as gets nicked by cat claws. Now, I'm not sure about all that, but I've known other people who end up in the hospital if they get bitten or scratched by a cat - even just a little. From what I've read, dogs have a lot more of the bacteria that causes cat scratch type fever reactions, but maybe there is a variety unique to cats, at least in our area.

I got more recommendations from my vet. Got a call back from a place that only grooms cats. She asked if Kasha had her front declawed. I had a sinking feeling and I said, "No". She replied, "Good, I like them with claws". I told her that we didn't believe in declawing and she said she didn't either. Makes you wonder a bit why she asked, but I liked her. I told her about Kasha's diabetes and she asked her age. When she heard that Kasha is 18, she said, "Now, I'll tell you right off - with our senior cats, I insist that the owner is in the room while we groom". I said "I WANT to be in the room!" Other places I was told would prefer me to leave her there and go away while they were grooming. And this groomer travels, giving speeches and talks on pet grooming. She's president of some cat groomers' association. We have an appointment for next Wednesday afternoon.

On one of her last vet visits, the vet said something about Kasha gagging a little when she pressed on her throat and I asked what that meant - she said probably post-nasal drip or something...

I recall the vet telling me if you press on a cat's throat & you get that response it likely means the kitty is asthmatic. So you might want to ask that question sometime. Some kitties get hay-fever and have sinus issues too, just like people.

Hope you get some good rest this weekend, take care.
