Friday at last!! This week as felt so long.

Everything as usual this morning. I'll try to get home for a +8 today.

We've been 6 cycles on the 1.5 unit dose, and though we haven't been able to get a reading close to his nadir, he seems to be staying in the pink for most, if not all of his cycle. On saturday & sunday we'll be doing a curve, as well as swiching over to a wet food only diet. Should we increase his insulin now, or wait and see what the curve shows us?

Thanks!

I would definitely NOT increase insulin if you are switching to a wet-only diet. The lower carb count will definitely influence his numbers and should bring them down...but I don't know how fast it'll set in. I switched my Max to wet several days before we started insulin, so I never saw that change. I know others here have switched to wet after starting insulin...in particular I'm thinking of Marvie & Tugger, if you want to look her up and ask if it was immediate change in numbers or not. Or someone else more knowledgeable in that than I will come along, I'm sure. :-D

Also, I'm sure that your curves could reveal info important to changing his dose, so post here before you make any changes. The dosing experts can help you figure out the best course of action once they see the numbers and know about the food change.

Re: 6/25 Max AMPS 356

Dry food can influence numbers. How much dry is Max getting?

Can you get a test in before PMPS today? If so, could you post the result and ask for "Dose Advice" in your subject line. I think if we know how much of Max's diet is dry and what numbers look like, we can help you to sort out what the best course of action is.

I think there is a trade off here. Numbers may drop once the dry is eliminated but every cat is different and some are much less carb sensitive than others. You can manage low numbers using HC wet food as long as you are prepared (mentally knowing this may happen and you have HC food and strips in good supply). On the other hand, having Max is higher numbers is not the best idea especially since we can't predict what his response will be once you complete the food transition.

Re: 6/25 Max AMPS 356

Sorry, just got home 20 mins ago. Took my sister to go visit my homebound Grandad, and was out longer than expected.

I was thinking I might take the dry food away right now, and start on the wet food tonight after shot time. Just thought that might give us some more reliable data during tomorrow's curve.

What do you guys think?

PS- shot time is just about now.

Re: 6/25 Max AMPS 356

Hi there!

you've gotten good feedback about the food.

I would definitely suggest monitor the numbers with a food change tonight, maybe with a +3 and a before bedtime check
and if you can over the weekend.

Good luck - I'm looking forward to the possibilities! :-D Low carb wet food diet can really help!

Re: 6/25 Max AMPS 356 PMPS 383

OK, they're off the kibble! However, Max was chowing (it was a free-feeder) on it before his shot, so I expect his numbers won't change right away. I'll do a +3 and a before bed tonight, then a full curve tomorrow & keep you all updated.

Question: when is it appropriate to affix a "?" post icon? If I'm just asking for dosage advice, is that ok?

Humongous thanks to all you wonderful people for all your great advice, tips and support. I can't begin to say what a relief it is to have you around!

.

You can always "edit" your first post in your daily thread/condo and add DOSE Q's, something like that - to the title line of your thread.

Some beans will test at +11 in one or both cycles - if they catch a lower than usual number - you can start buggin' then
that also helps give advance notice to your upcoming shot time.

I'm finding the wet food is a game in its own too  Both of my cats were free feeding kitty krack heads  once Doodles was diagnosed it was a change from OTC dry food to MD wet and dry from the vet! Too high in carbs can't believe she put me on this :o I have used only 15 dry kibbles when Doodles was at 36 and I know why they call it krack :-D

I have different cans of carbs 3, 4, 7 & 8, I try to keep Doodles on the lowest...and I have 18 carbs for her HC food. I'm really paying attention to her #'s after her meals, I now mark how many carbs are in the can I'm using. Today I gave her 8 carbs and she really went up after surfing pretty good? So on with my testing...but the hardest for me was finding something they both liked and then the constant feeding instead of free eating.

You have to be a really good detective

Just takes time and these are the greatest beans in the world :-D :-D :-D if you ever have any questions they are always here for you!
