Well Jake's numbers were really good today. Despite that he seemed very sleepy and would not move from his favorite spot all day. He ate his morning breakfast and got his shot. Now, normally after he gets his shot, he gets a "mini breakfast" after his real breakfast. This is more of a reward for letting me poke him with a needle (which he growls at me sometimes depending on his mood). Today he didn't want it, I thought this a bit odd and decided to just leave it out and come back to check him later. When I came back he had not eating it two hours later, this is a little unlike him. Although he does have a tendency to get "bored" of what I'm feeding him and I have to find something new. He also threw up some food he ate last night. I had given him some crab meat as a treat and a few hours later he was having bad diarrhea from it so I'm going to assume his tummy troubles are from that. He pooped again this morning and it was still like water but hasn't pooped again since so I don't know. I did not pester him to eat and continued to check his BG levels throughout the day. You can see he stayed in the mid 200s which is good, especially since he was having some high days.

He sat in his spot for over 8 hours so I picked him up, and sat outside with him for a few hours and let him get sun and hang out with his brother. When time came for shot/food he let me test him and seemed hungry when I brought his food. However he didn't want it, and this is usually something he gobbles down pretty fast so I was bummed. I ended up giving him some Innova EVO (purple bag) that claims to be only 7% carbs and 50% protein.

I'm worried that giving him any kind of dry food will screw up his sugar... and he had about 1/2 a cup of it... maybe a little more. I just had to get him to eat. Problem is, he gets obsessed with certain types of food and wants nothing but that... so he might bug me for this food all the time. Am I reversing my work by giving him this food? I have some canned food that says 9% carbs, so I'm confused. What's worse?

sometimes you just have to do what you have to do to jump start kitty's appetite. however, a little parmesan cheese sprinkled on warmed food, freeze-dried chicken "dust" used as a "topper", even grinding that EVO and sprinkling it on top of jake's regular food may do the trick.

have you been checking his urine for ketones? if not, it would be a good idea to start...

very nice numbers for Jake! I hope his appetite returns.. I too use the freeze dried chicken, cheese, and sometimes tuna flakes, It seems to work for those rare times when Mannie isn't all that interested in food. for me it's just better than dry.

Yeah, he's an oddball my Jake n Bake... sometimes I feel like he really doesn't want what I give him because he enjoys the many hoops I jump through to find him something he will eat! He'll eat anything my mom and dad give him... what a poop head, eh? Even though his numbers were good his appetite was low so I caved and gave him the best dry kibble I could find. He seems ok... two hours later tested at 244 so he seems pretty level. Will see what happens tomorrow :D

Just keep an eye on his LB functions. His tummy may be off for some reason. In addition to some of the strategies Jill suggested, FortiFlora can stimulate appetite. It's a probiotic and is helpful with addressing problems with loose stool and a lot of cats really, really like it. I purchase it on-line.

What are LB functions? Also, he gets probiotics... he uses something called Galactan. It's a pro-biotic fiber that actually supports blood sugar regulation as well. It's pretty neat.

I actually get it from work :)

I just figured out you meant lower body functions

I do keep an eye on his poop... I clean his box out every day so I pay attention to the type of poop he's been having. For about a day now he's had water poop... and he's thrown up a couple of times. He wouldn't eat any of the wet food I offered (except his morning breakfast) and was generally very sleepy all day. When I got him outside for a couple hours, and fed him some dry EVO Kibble he seemed to perk up. However he still turned his nose up at his food. I'm going to the pet store tomorrow and grabbing him some cans of Nature's Variety Lamb formula... he freakin' LOVED that so much. He would lick his bowl clean... so maybe that'll get him eating again. I tried sprinkling some Parmesan cheese on his wet food tonight and he had no interest... then sat in the same spot he was sitting in all day before I moved him.

I hope he's ok, and his is just after effects of having those two high days. I read that loose stools and vomiting can be a result of high blood sugar... but I'm no expert and the internet never lies... right??
