Good morning!

Well, I was ready last night, but she didn't get too low. She was at 96 @ +4, 93 @ +4.5 and 110 @ +5 and she was having a snack then, so I decided to go to bed.

This morning we have our first blue preshot # - very exciting! I've left plenty of cowboy cookout breakfast for her, and I will try to get home during the day to check on her. I'm thinking if it's quiet in the office I may just have to take a half day!

On another note, I have an interesting graph that has been helpful in conversations with friends when talking about why they shouldn't feed their cat high carb food. When Emma was first diagnosed the vet had me do a curve before she started insulin so we could see what was happening. Her numbers were ridiculously high, and being the dork that I am, I graphed it. Then I stopped the food she was on (the dry prescription k/d diet) and switched her to the gluten-free fancy feasts. And I graphed her numbers for the next few days. It's amazing the difference just changing her diet made. Within the next couple of weeks she was completely in the normal range, and stayed that way til recently. Anyway, I'd love to post it so you all can see it, but I can't really figure out how to do that. I have to figure out how to save it as a picture so I can stick it in my album below...maybe someone at work can help me with that today!

Have a great day, and thanks for all the encouragement!

Hey way to go. Seeing Green too..... in no time at all Emma will be heading to the Falls. They say its a great place. Can`t wait for Trey to make it there. You are so smart to watch and chart the food intake wow be interesting to see...Food makes a big difference for sure Trey was a big dry food cat but now he is only can and he is doing awesome...Have a great day. Kath

Re: 7/23 Emma AMPS 193 - first blue preshot!

thanks Kath! And thanks for your notes yesterday - I appreciate the prayers/good thoughts for Emma! She seemed to be pretty perky and happy this morning, so I'm hoping it was just a tummy ache or something last night.

Re: 7/23 Emma AMPS 193 - first blue preshot!

Congrats to you and Emma on the first blue preshot! Way to go Emma!

Re: 7/23 Emma AMPS 193 - first blue preshot!

Oh - I would LOVE to see that graph! Unfortunately, when I start talking about feline nutrition (or human nutrition, actually) I can just watch people's eyes roll back in their heads... maybe this would help! What tool did you use to graph it? Excel or something else? I know on my laptop I can print to .pdf files, since I often want to save a copy of something but don't want to waste paper...

Re: 7/23 Emma AMPS 193 - first blue preshot!

Pretty blue PS. Way to go, Emma

Kristen, looking at your photo album, I see why you were skeptical yesterday. Emma and Checkers don't really look alike at all. It's just the one pose in the avatar. On closer look, her coloring is gorgeous! Checks is totally grey and white.

You can always embed a screen shot into a post.

Isn't it exciting to see that AMPS? I tend to think most people think we're a bit obsessed about our cats. We are. Other, non-cat people just don't get it.

Re: 7/23 Emma AMPS 193 - first blue preshot!

Very nice on the blue pre-shot! Nice job, both of you. It is exciting - sure wish my guy had more of those.

I'd love to see the graph - hope you can figure out how to post it. It is true - food makes such a difference.

Mannie say HI to Emma, and hopes that she will be at Stu's today - lots to cram into their last day...

Re: 7/23 Emma AMPS 193 - first blue preshot!

Thanks everyone - yes I'm very excited about the blue preshot this morning! And people know I'm obsessed with my cat - they don't wonder anymore  You should've seen the reaction I got to my little BG graph when I did it a couple of years ago. It was hanging in my office for a while. Even the vet laughed at me, and they had it hanging in their lab....it may even still be there! I've managed to save it as a picture (and yes Krys, I graphed it in excel, then converted it to a pdf, and saved it as a jpeg)...haven't gotten ANY work done this morning.....I can't stick it in my photo album from here because of our firewall, so it will have to wait til I get home, because I have no idea how to embed anything in my post.

Nice job, Emma on that blue preshot! How exciting to see blue in that column instead of yellow!

Hope you guys have a wonderful day!

Ok - I just tested to make sure... but you can attached a .pdf to a post... that's what I did when I first posted since I didn't have the whole sharing google docs thing set up yet...

Just go to post or edit a post and down below the text box there is a tab that says: Upload attachment... You can then browse thru your computer to locate the file you want to attach and then click "Add the file"

Re: 7/23 Emma AMPS 193 - first blue preshot!

Ok, I'll try it with this post. Just popped home to check on her and got a 177 @ +5.75

Looks like the attachment worked, so I'll explain a little bit...

The line you see is starting with her fasting BG when she was eating the Hill's prescription K/D dry diet, which is the exact opposite diet from what diabetic kitties need - low protein, high carb! The next day I stopped giving her the k/d and started her on the gluten-free fancy feast varieties. The red dots show her BG's that day, then the light purple triangles, the orange x's and green squares. By the time you get to the brown dots, which is only a few days into the new diet, you can see she's staying pretty low. By the time she was two weeks into it, she was completely in the normal range.
