Checkers still has elevated temp, at 103.2
Has had 250 ml fluid....Blood test is normal, white cells should be higher for infection.
He peed a lot. Urine will be cultured.

He didn't eat the offered A/D. I can visit any time now, so I will bring Fancy Feast.
That's it. Still no answers.
Doc questioned me about Checkers lifestyle. He never goes out and is never in contact with other animals.

I think he picked up something from the clinic the day, one week ago, when he was there for routine bloodwork.
Doc says he wasn't "in back" where sick animals would be.
I could have picked up anything from a doorknob, to a waiting room chair, to germs left on exzm table, then transferred it to my cat's face.

I'm off to visit my baby. See you all later.

I think its always possible to pick up a virus anywhere I am a vet tech and have brought things home nothing as serious as what you are fighting but we did bring a virus home from a cat show once and I always change clothes after work and shows but I do think its possible Barb and not sure if you have had any open windows but a few years back some of my cats caught something that way from another cat. Just a thought
sending more healing vines you way for Checkers today :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Re: 8/18 Checkers

((Barb))...I hope you will give Checkers lots of hugs and kisses form all his Aunties and buddies here...
It does seem coincidence about him being there just last week...(but other people touched him too Barb)..
Hope they can figure out what is going on soon....
I know you will be happy to see him this morning...and bring him some nice food to eat.

Re: 8/18 Checkers

Sending many good wishes and positive thoughts your way, and to Checkers. Go visit your baby and give his tons of hugs and pets, and food that he likes. I hope he feels better soon, and that they can figure out what is wrong. Give Checkers a hug from Mannie and me.

Re: 8/18 Checkers

don't beat yourself up barb, I know it's hard not to, but he could have gotten sick from anything, not just from you touching something at the vets, then his face, ok? Checkers just doesn't feel good right now, and you are doing the best thing for him, which is having him at the vets where they can monitor him and get him all better. depending on how long he will be there, maybe you should take something? A stuffed toy for him? A shirt of yours? A blanket? Anyways, I know checkers is going to love seeing you ... give him an extra kiss from all of us!

Re: 8/18 Checkers

Hi All
I got to spend a long time with my boy. He seemed to be feeling a lot better. He was alert, looking at, rather than thu me and the vet techs.
I brought FF, sprinkled it with Fortiflora, and he surprised the doc and tech, by eating a little.
Doc then decided to give Valium as appetite stimulant. OMIGOSH...in about 10 seconds, he was eating like a little piggy! His nose was in the food, and he was looking over at the rest in the can.
Doc asked if I wanted to come back again today to visit. Tech said late afternoon, in case he can come home with me
Don't know yet if he will be home tonight. Doc didn't say "no".
He told me what antibiotics. he got, but I don't remember offhand. it's the fluids that are woring the magic.
He looks good. :-D

Re: 8/18 Checkers

Very encouraging report on your boy. Didn't realize valium could have that effect. Makes me wonder, is he getting any pain meds? Maybe the valium helped with pain by helping him relax...?

Re: 8/18 Checkers

I am so glad Checkers is feeling better and eating. I hope he is better enough to come home tonight. I had no idea that Valium would do that, but I will keep it in mind for future non-eating animals at home.

Re: 8/18 Checkers

Hope you post that he's home tonite!! Fluids are really magical for a cat! Glad to finally hear he is better!!
It hurts me when any of our LL cats are ill--Paws & Fingers crossed for a happy homecoming tonite~! HUGS~!!

Re: 8/18 Checkers

Great news! Glad to hear he has perked up and seems to be feeling better. :-D

Re: 8/18 Checkers

I'm so glad you had a nice visit and he seems to be perking up. I hope he's home with you really soon!

Seems like you should get a discount (or freebie) if it's something he got there, even if you accidentally touched something and transferred. They should clean up a little better. It makes sense to me, anyways.

Re: 8/18 Checkers

I agree, Janice, but I'm not placing blame anywhere. They have a jug of hand sanitizer at the entrance desk, and probably at exit, but I never noticed it before today. I wonder how many people do.
They can't possibly keep all germs out of the clinic....Que serra, serra!
I'm trying hard, not to be resentful of Sat.'s unproductive visit, at a cost of $80
Lesson learned; don't leave without answers next time :!:

Re: 8/18 Checkers

Barb, I'm glad to hear that Checkers is looking and feeling better! I hope he will be able to come home later today! It does sound like he picked something up somewhere, but you'll probably never know where. The important thing is that he gets better!

Re: 8/18 Checkers

Hi All.
He is staying again. He is responding beautifully to medication and fluids. Temp finally broke and is normal.
He refused to pee in no-sorb stuff, so they did the cysto. Tech said his bladder was huge from holding it; but he let go and used regular litter, finally.
No bladder infection.
Doc would have let him go home if I insisted, but he is much better off staying another night with fluids and medication.
We still don't know what/where the infection is, but it is probably not viral, since it's responding so well to antibiotic; however, this is a doctor that never says 'never'.

I left his favorite toy with him, after traveling there with it in my bra. Now it smells like me instead of my purse.
I'm trying to be as consise as possible , so won't go into everything he said.

Heeeeeeeyyy, I heard that collective sigh of relief.

I'm so happy Checkers is doing well, it is a huge relief.
You didn't pull the toy out of your bra infront of the techs did you? Imagine the look on their faces?
Hope Checkers comes home soon

This is just wonderful news, Barb! I'm so glad Checkers is doing so well and it sounds like he will probably be home tomorrow! Way to go Checkers!!

  toy in bra that is classic Barb not sure I would have ever thought to do that to get Mama Bean smell on toy :-D hope it comforts him tonight and that he keeps improving and gets to come home tomorrow so happy he is better

Re: 8/18 Checkers I goofed

I know you will miss him like crazy tonight, but I like a vet who takes no chances with our furbabies. More Vines and White Light! ❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧❧(I'm checking to make sure I did it right this time!)

   Barb I'm so sorry, that smilie in the earlier post was supposed to be vines.     But now it is appropriate to me, for being an idiot.

I hope he has a good night there...and you too Barb! Pulling the toy out of your bra was so funny.....hope you didn't embarrass your boy in front of everyone there! LOLOLOL.
Glad he is responding to the meds too and the fluids. It sounds as if he is very much better and that is a big relief....hope you have a good night yourself...rest well Barb! Sending hugs to you :YMHUG:

Ann, you're funny :-D . I nearly always have my animations turned off, so I just recently found out how they move.
I have in the past, posted an inappropriate emoticon, 'cause I didn't know what it was doing.
Oh gosh, I do miss him so....I keep looking at the clock....for spot check or shot time.
Pat, I'll sleep well........I have Ambien
Thank you for good wishes everybody. You all are such a blessing.

You surely heard my sigh of relief. I really with there was a way to figure out what caused this. I hope you have all kinds of treats ready for your boy!!

Barb, this is such great news that Checkers' temperature has returned to normal, that he is eating, that he is feeling good again. You made a good choice to leave him overnight so that they could keep giving the fluids. Tomorrow will be a wonderful day for you and your kitty. Sleep well!

Ella & Stu

I'm so relieved that Checkers is feeling better. I know you miss him, but he'll be home soon and he'll be more like himself and it will be great to have him home. ((((Barb))))
