8/22 Mr Tinkles AMPS 330 PMPS 163

Yesterday

Well, the good news is that Tinkles got down to the high greens overnight. The bad news is.... Pat, here's the warning, gross detail ahead! .... that he is now sneezing out bloody mucus again. :YMSIGH: I'm so glad I had refilled the Azithy script, he should have finished the 6 week course today, but he will have to continue it.

WCR: Other than sneezing fits, Tinkles seems to feel ok. He is pretty lazy, but it is raining here so it's a lazy sort of day anyway. His appetite is excellent, 3 P's in place so far, and he's napping on the couch.

Has your vet ruled out allergy as a cause for the sneezing?

That wasn't as bad as your other graphic stories Laurie... :lol: but thanks for the warning anyway. I went ahead with the reading but braced myself for the really gross details.

Sienne, I asked both vets he has seen about allergies. They both seemed to think it was herpes virus related and didn't directly address the allergy question. He has always been a little sneezy. He does respond to l-lysine, so that supports the herpes dx...but it could be both! I think he had a foreign body in there (food) and it caused the infection, and high BG levels seem to feed the infection. This was my reason for changing to Lantus, I was looking to get his numbers flatter, avoid the wild swings that he got with ProZinc because those swings made his URI worse, which made his numbers worse....it was a viscious circle.

I didn't think it would be a good idea to try an antihistimine while he still had an infection, so I didn't push that idea. Maybe now would be the time to try it...I did pick up chlortabs so I could try it.

Sneezy, sneezy, sneezy....he keeps having long sneezing fits, clear discharge. I gave him 1/2 a chlortab. Luckily I could crush it and put it in a dab of FF and he ate it right up. I can't pill to save my life! I hope that will help him, poor kitty is pretty miserable.

Twenty minutes after I gave him the chlortab, the sneezing stopped. He's been napping peacefully ever since, about 1 1/2 hours. It appears to be allergy related.

Mr. Tinkles is looking good right about now! Glad to see a slow decent in numbers! I'm also glad that the sneezies have stopped and he's taking a nice little nap!
