Libby is here!

Morning!
Joan, do have any way to get a food syringe for Oscar? I use that for Shadow a lot when he is low. I use a strainer to get the gravy out of the can and then syringe it into his mouth....
You might be able to get a food syringe from your vet...something like this: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/p ... =525349654

Shadow doesn't seem to want to eat when he goes really low so this is a great way of getting the HC gravy into him.

HI Libby and Pat,
I do have a reasonable size syringe that I used to give him oil (when constipated) and to give him the honey disolved in a bit of water last night, sounds a good idea I will try it. Do I need to force feed him before his dose as he is already pretty high? In other words with Lantus does it matter if he doesn't eat just before a shot?

ok...... are you home to test this cycle? Sorry, I should have asked that first.

If so, you should be fine shooting 0.2. We can't really say that the 0.2 unit dose was solely responsible for the drop last night, because there was still momentum from the previous 0.5 unit dose behind it. So if you're home, it should be fine to shoot 0.2 and test, test, test to see what he is doing with that dose.

If you have to go out, I would reduce to 0.1. Here's a picture:

Yes Libby I will be home. So will do .2u shot and test at least hourly- more to start?. I think his ears have finally started to get tougher.
Thought I had the whole day yeterday and then DH had ear problems so I volunteered to drive to pharmacy 240kms round trip - there went the arfternoon, but I did say to him last night I am going nowhere today!!
Thanks for help LIbby.

I was about to suggest waiting until +2 for your first test, but given the rate of drop last night maybe it's better to get a +1 to start. Most likely he will bounce high, but I wouldn't want to assume that and be wrong.

Thanks Libby will do. Actually not sure if dose was more like .1u it is so hard to judge, I tried for .2u but it felt so little when I pushed the plunger. I have a whole box of these but still might try for a few smaller dose syringes if I can get them, we are going to Adelaide tomorrow (300kms).
It's the first time we have taken Oscar with us (we normally give him lots of dry food @ home for a couple of nights away), he hates travelling when we go to the vet, sleeping elsewhere hasn't even been tried -so not sure how we'll go - but he has got to come so it will work out. I hope I will have internet conection - not sure?
