Morning LL,


WCR Sara is doing good. Its raining hard here so I think she'll have company inside today. As the civies aren't going to be happy with the rain.

Her pm+3 last night was higher than her PMPS. I have a terrible time with air bubbles most of the time. So its like shes not getting the correct dose. Maybe that was why?

I was looking for last nite's numbers, and I see they were blue??
+3/137 - still pretty darn good!

Is it possible she ate a little bit more around there?

I waste so much insulin fighting those dang air bubbles. I often give up and squirt all the insulin in the syringe into the sink and start over again :roll: .

Hate those air bubbles as well. And I too have wasted lots of insulin trying to get a shot w/out them. Sometimes I'm spot on and bubble free and other times I see Mr. Bubbles and his entire family in the syringe.

Hi Jan, On the air bubbles: I finally developed a technique that worked for me (with the Monoject Ultrafine 30 gauge, 3/10cc, 5/16 inch needle with 1/2 unit markings; sold at Hocks). These syringes have a really flat end on the plunger, so it is easy to eyeball the dose. I would work the plunger back and forth a couple of times, then push it all the way in and hold it there forcefully while I stuck the needle into the gasket of the insulin cartridge. Then draw up more insulin than you need. If there is a bubble, it flicks out easily or is pushed out easily when you twist the plunger to get the dose down to the correct unit marking. But I was able to avoid bubbles almost entirely by using this technique. The key is holding the plunger all the way in--putting pressure on it--while inserting the needle into the cartridge. This eliminates any air that might be still hiding in the syringe!

I agree with Ella...I do it just that way myself. With spreading the lubricant around inside, it leaves only one bubble most times that is easily expressed. But, you are probably doing that anyway, right? I hope you have a nice day ...happy Friday...scritches to Sara! :razz:

Thanks Ella I tried your suggestion and I only had a small one left in the syringe. I'll be doing it that way from now on. Hope your doing ok.

Pat, Yea I always work the plunger back and forth but I still would end up with some [sometimes giant] bubbles. Would have to start over sometimes. But I've added holding the plunger up till I pierce the bottom of the pen.

Dyana, Isn't it madning to waste insulin because of those darn bubbles. Enough to make me scream sometimes.

Tena, Yep I had the whole family in the syringe too. Maybe a family reunion.

Ronnie, I completely spaced posting her night #'s in last night. Don't know for sure if she ate or not at that time. Shes been more in blue and a smidgen of yellow now and than since she has had a mast cell tumor removed. But shes doing good.
