Re: 11/09 Buddy AMPS 98@ 6:20 123@ 6:28 157@ 6:43
Pat,
When he throws up, it's usually just a really small bit compared to how much he is eating. The other night when it was more, I did not see it, the GF did and cleaned it up. Some days I wonder (and I could be wrong) if it is when he leaves a little bit of food from bedtime feeding and then tries to eat it later. Also, it could be that he get's nervous/stressed for more food and that makes him throw up. Sunday afternoon, my GF dropped a plate in the sink when Buddy was in the kitchen and he started to wretch, just a few strokes on his head calmed him down and no throw up. There is also the possibility that he is going too low O/N. Which is why my alarm is going to be set for 1am tonight - I hope I can wake up.
He is using the feeder religiously O/N and during the day now.
As far as the new insulin: jury is out if this was the problem. Normal procedure has been to smell the injection site after injection to check for a fur shot ( I took the advise from someone here to familiarize myself with the smell of Lantus). Normal is to not smell anything. But, the other night - Sunday I believe - he jumped down off the table (5 min after injection) where I feed/poke him and I noticed he had a wet spot on shoulder - so I smelled and yes it was insulin. This came after a good clean injection. I noticed a wet spot before and thought I must have had a drop on my hand, or it was from food (he does get crazy), or he walked past a drop of water on the floor and picked it up somehow. This used to happen on occasion, but could have happened more and I never noticed. So moral of the story here, front shoulder not a good place to inject Buddy, I feel like the bone rubbing may sometimes massage out the insulin through the injection site because fresh injection never smells and isn't wet - something that happens about 5 min or so later. I will be injecting in the scruff for a while because I don't trust the hind quarters for the same reason I don't trust the front shoulder. There is not enough skin on his flank to get a good tent, maybe with time he will grow more when his numbers are consistently better. Old vial of insulin is still going in the trash.
