Alright I'm getting my wish granted.. I wished to be home when his numbers and I AM !! well 1am isn't the best time but whom I am to complain? I was up most of the night checking and was there for my Wisp (breast cancer cat)- when she threw up.. Thank goodness I had the medication to help her. Seriously am glad I am home.. just sleep isn't in the cards I guess.

Nice catch, Jenee! Sorry about the lost sleep, but you did fine...you got some great data showing you how much he rises from the HC you gave him. When I was getting used to Lantus, I gave HC at the higher green numbers to see the effect, that helped me get more comfortable with letting him go lower before giving the HC. The 80s are great numbers, maybe next time you can try giving LC when he is in the higher greens and see if that slows the drop or gets him to surf there...if he continues to drop, you can always get the HC out...you are in control with the food and your meter. You're doing great!

Sorry about Wisp, I hope she's feeling better this morning.

Thanks. Good thing is I did think of that but was afraid I'd fall back to sleep so I only gave 2 tbsps however that can be a lot to spike a cat. I will definitely be seeing if he surfs at that number next time.. who knows.. maybe tonight! His flag to me was when he was excessively scratching his ears..I knew something wasn't right.. I called him to move from the bottom of the bed to lay next to me and he did! just like saying "here I am mom- test me- not feeling so well".. then when I got up .. he wobbled right into his room, looked up at me and meowed. He doesn't hardly ever meow.. strange how cats communicate and us humans "get it" lol!! I would love to have pet "mind reader" come to my house to tell me what each is saying.. especailly my younger cat.. who seems to think there should be more mice in the basement for her to play with!

oh, jenee..hope you get some rest.

btw...you're welcome to have the mouse that binks has sublet our kitchen to...shipping paid by me, of course.

LOL!! Love the BINKS picture!!! ... no mouse has a chance in my house. Mouse dies from the cats playing with it..never from any intention to eat it. Crazy furbies!

Never fun to wake up in a stupor to a cat ready to puke on your bed!

A couple of thoughts re. feeding...

It looks like you feed a can at a time at meals (that's if I understand your notation). You might want to divide that up. A full can at any one time puts a lot of pressure on a healing pancreas to produce endogenous insulin. It's easier if you spread out the food over a few hours early in the cycle.

When you're trying to raise numbers, you only want to feed a little bit at a time. It's not been that big of an issue so far when you're managing Khan's cycle but there may be a point when you are monitoring over several hours. You'll want to give only a teaspoon or so of food, regardless of whether it's LC or HC. If you feed too much early in the process, Khan won't be hungry and it could be difficult to get him to eat when you need him to in order to keep his numbers up.

I"m glad you mentioned that. I was thinking hard about that last night. I'm wondering if all Fancy Feast I have fed him is low carb. He eats the entire can w98% of the time I put it down. I feed him 1can in am right after shot, 1 at lunch 11-12pm, 1 at about 430-5pm then another 7pm and maybe another late before I go to bed. He is skinny and could use any weight gain possible however if his BG isn't regulated I know his body is unable to process the food nutritionally.

I buy the mix seafood box of fancy feast (non gravy)- just recently began to explore out to other low carb no grain Fancy Feast varieties for the food lists on this forum.

I was seriously going to add in a probiotic to help him absorb the nutrients. I'd like to move to a higher quality food to help him gain weight- yet really don't want to rock the boat until his BG numbers are under control.. that is the most important rt now. If BG isn't controlled his back legs are terrible.

I think I understand your post.

Feed 1/2 can at a time early in the cycle- correct? so if I check him at 615am and usually shoot at 715am
Do I feed the 1/2 can at 615am then the other 1/2 can an hour later b4 going to work? Then how much do I leave out for food?

then once home somewhere between 430-6pm feed 1/2 can then 1 hr later 1/2 can again? then before bed another 1/2 can? I need to have a schedule since I can't keep this all straight in my head. If I need to feed a certian amount approximate times and that will help to regulate BG I'll do it- I just need to write it down since I have a thyroid kitty I give a pill to in the morning and transdermal gel 2x/day--plus feed other cats and make sure noone gets into each other's food. Meal time is crazy since I have a 3 yr old & it is just him & I--so whatever I must do I have to write down. I do have a BG log book so I could write the feeding in there??

Your thoughts???
