I'm not going to the USA but my mom is and she said she'd load up on diabetes supplies for me. We can't get the relion meters up here.

Do most of you that use it use the "confirm" one?
The meter is 9$ and needs only .3 of blood.
The strips are 100 for $40. The cheapest I've found 100 strips up here is $73. So I'd get a few hundred of them.
It would be nice to have a meter that read in US numbers but the new World spreadsheet is working the conversions perfectly.

Any concerns?

Re: 11/24 - Maverick - Relion meter question for this weeken

Hi Kerrie,

I use the Reli On Ultima. But the prices are the same as you said. As far as I could find it was the least expensive. I'm not sure of the difference between the "confirm one" and the "Ultima".

I like my meter. It is slower than my Accu Chek Aviva, but the strips are cheaper and it works fine.

Sounds to me like things will work out fine. Guess it will be kinda nice to have a meter that reads in US #'s.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

The Relion Ultima is the same price as the Confirm one. Strips are the same price too. I'll search the board for Ultima and see what the feedback is. Thanks : )

Re: 11/24 - Maverick - Relion meter question for this weeken

SOme of the posts talk about a control solution - can you buy this at walmart also? Since I'm up in Canada, I doubt they would ship here.

Re: 11/24 - Maverick - Relion meter question for this weeken

Hi Karrie - I use the Relion Micro - same price on the meter and the strips. the little drop of blood it needs is about the size of a pinhead. You probably can't go wrong with whichever one you end up with. I have been very happy with mine, no problems at all.

Re: 11/24 - Maverick - Relion meter question for this weeken

Kerrie,

I think that there are quite a few people that use the Reli On. Good luck and your welcome.

You don't need the control solution to start up your meter. Each set of strips come with a plastic strip that you stick into meter to make sure that it reads right. The book says that you do a control solution test to 1) When you question your results 2) To make sure your monitor and test strips are working properly. I have had a questionable reading before only when I don't get enough blood. It states that you have so many seconds to put more blood on to the strip and it will work. But I've never trusted it and taken another one. Sometimes I will try it on myself to see if it is whacky. So I don't think it's totally necessary. You'll have to see what others think.

Can your mom pick up some control solution on her trip?

My meter came with:

meter
manual
carrying case
10 lancets
Lansing device
Log book

So you can't buy the solution from Walmart? If not I'll have it shipped to my aunt and my aunt can ship it to me. Relions aren't sold in Canada so I doubt they ship solution to Canada. I will call and ask though.

Re: 11/24 - Maverick - Relion meter question for this weeken

I have the ReliOn Confirm and like it alot.
You don't need the control solution to start up your meter.
You can order the control solution by calling or from the website. (its free)
http://www.relion.com/diabetes/confirm

Here you go Kerrie Check out their website and get a # that you can call and have them ship the solution to you or your aunt.

Just wanted to make sure you saw Ginger's post.

Good luck with Maverick

Re: 11/24 - Maverick - Relion meter question for this weeken

You guys are the best.

I called the number from the link and they confirmed they can't ship to Canada. So I'll call them back with my Aunt's address and have her ship it to me if we ever need it.

Maverick is driving my husband and I bonkers. 5AM like clockwork he comes into the bedroom and meows. Just lies on the floor and meows repeatedly. I bring him to his food bowl (always has food in it). He'll eat a bit and come back and lie down and start meowing again.

So I have to leave the bed and go out and sleep on the couch so my husband can get some sleep. Maverick stops meowing once I move to the living room couch. If I close the bedroom door he'll stay there, pawing and meowing.

He did this once before earlier this year when he was first diagnosed with diabetes but went away (managed diabetes with diet alone). He started up again a couple months ago also coinciding with glucose showing in his urine. I thought once we got him on insulin it would stop.

Its not all night long, just at 5 AM on. Now yowling or panicked. Just comes in, lays down and meows.

Any ideas what he's trying to tell me?

Evening Karrie - for me, it is 6:30 a.m. but totally food related. goes away once I feed them.

so no toys around? no mice? you know how they'll crow if they catch a mouse? so proud of themselves.

And give up on all of my hard work on that spreadsheet?? :-D

Karrie, I used the Relion Ultima and has been said, no control solution to worry
about. Just a stick that comes with each package.
I was always happy with it but I would do monthly trips to the US to stock up.
Much cheaper than here.

Oh and the relion syringes are really good too. I don't know what you are using now but i found the BD ones very expensive.
Some states require a prescription for needles though.

we use the relion micro..9.99 and strips are $20 for fifty of them...

the micro meter is phasing out...but it uses the same strips as the confirm so strips will be continued available..

Randi your spreadsheet is amazing!!!!! I love it. It has made things so much easier for me. All automatic :)

I didn't even think about syringes. I'm paying $40 for a box of 100 I think. I'll have to check.

I wonder what giving him catnip at 5AM would do. Maybe it would mellow him out. I wonder if its company he wants. I just go and sleep on the couch instead of the bed and that makes him happy. I wish it was 6:30AM and not 5AM.

That SS is looking good.
I'm glad we got that going!

The relion syringes are around 12-15 for 100, and now with the dollar at par, no
brainer on that one.

I cannot comment on his Yowling though. Max went through that phase for a while and
then it stopped.

Thanks Randi. Wow what a difference in price. I'll have to ask my mom if she's comfortable bringing back syringes. I think the border guards might make her nervous lol. If I was there I'd do it in a heartbeat. Might be worth a trip to augdensburg or watertown for me though at that price.

Kerrie,

Maverick's ss looks great! He's has great #'s. [You must be thrilled that Randi helped you with that] The meowing does sound like he just is bored or something and wants company. I guess he wants your day to start ealier. He would do fine over here, because most days it starts at 3:30. We'd probley be waking him up.

I use the reli on syringes too. They are a lot cheaper. $12-$15 for 100/with 1/2 unit markings too. I do need a script for them in ct though. I just call my vet and she calls it into walmart. Once I had to sign has Sara's guardian. The girl behind the counter said she never had a perscription for a cat before. :-D

Good luck getting what you need and the meowing.

jan and sara

I told Randi I would hug her if I could. I was so happy. I put the link in my signature for her template so that it can help others needing a world/us automatic updating spreadsheet. All the ones online were broken.

I think I'll be driving over the border for syringes. Just what I'd save on two boxes would pay for gas. Then the test strips would be the real savings. Thanks guys!
