All is well in CurryLand.

She was a bit higher last night...and then this morning....maybe it was the Pumpkin Caramel Pie that Gabby bought to Mannie's gathering.

Sid ate canned food the majority of the day yesterday and for breakfast this morning. We will see how long this lasts since she is so picky.

I'm looking into giving the kitties raw food. I know about Feline Future and Nature's Variety raw medallions. How long can you leave out the raw food....I'm thinking....no more than an hour....so if whole amount is too much for a kitty to eat all at once...feed in installments if possible?....supplement w/canned for snacks that are left out. Any words of wisdom to keep in mind when transitioning to raw?

Happy Friday my friends!!!

Re: 11/26 Curry AMPS 113 and raw food questions????

good luck figuring the whole raw food thing out. If you have a good pet store near you can pick their brains too. The owners of the one I go to are a well of information, they're great and I'm lucky to have them.

Re: 11/26 Curry AMPS 113 and raw food questions????

I feed primarily a raw diet. I use Feline Futures and grind my own chicken. I make up 1/4 cup "patties" that I freeze. Each cat gets a patty plus some Wellness canned at mealtime BUT, I feed in installments. They each get half of a patty at shot time and another half of a patty an hour later. They pretty much eat everything -- although they will sometimes graze. I'm not a big fan of leaving food, especially raw, sit out for long periods of time. I know there are others here who have left raw out for an extended period. I think if you have a feeder where you can leave an ice pack, it would be ok. I'd rather leave out canned.

Iowren.....good idea about asking the store owners re: the raw.

Sienne.....thx on feeding amounts. My folks taught me not to leave raw food out for any length of time.....Especially in the south.

Thanks for the information.

To answer your question from Gabby's condo, I make up a "double order" of food (based on the Feline Future mix). I use 3 lbs of thigh meat, 1 lb of chicken breast, and 7 oz of liver. It makes a little over a week's worth of food for my two guys. There are no bones or skin. I also trim off any fat.

As usual, Curry is giving you beautiful numbers. He is just doing great! I hope you figure out the raw food thing. Have a great Furday, Tena!

morning Tena - did you have a good day yesterday? how did the turkey turn out? brining is supposed to make it really moist, right?

I'm going to be very interested in what you find out about the girls' fuds. The Petsmart this morning had a refrigerated case, I didn't get to look it over much, though. And I wouldn't be changing anything anyway, right before my trip. but when I get back....

I'd be nervous about leaving raw out.

beautiful numbers for Miss Curry, as usual.

Re: transitioning to the raw: DON'T DO IT    Just kidding...I do think it's the best diet for them. I used the Nature's Variety medallions with Gracie when she was a kitten...she ate them for 6 months and then that was it. I've been thinking about using Feline Futures (which I've used in the past)...double check the NV medallions because I think they are higher in carbs than you would imagine as I recollect. Also, FF recently changed their formula..I've been trying to get as fed values from them but have had no response. Ann did an awesome chart on what the %carbs used to be (like .93%) but when they changed their formula, their protein and fat went down so that means the carbs went up....but it still might be just a tiny bit. The problem I have with feeding raw is my cats will NOT eat cold food and so it becomes more labor intensive to put the portion in a baggie, put it in warm water to slowly warm it, etc etc. Having said all that and not meaning to be Debbie Downer, I really do think if you can get her on it, it's absolutely super to do so.

Sienne....very helpful information. I'm writing that down.

Kim....brining does make it moist....but a bit too salty for me....Just gathering information for now.....Maybe order a trial version of the F

Marjorie.....lots of good feedback. It always good to hear about some of the difficultes before trying to go in that direction. I didn't realize that NV had higher carb content...have to really watch that w/Curry. Right now I think Curry is getting about 2% w/Fancy Feast.

wonderful numbers Curry and I was feeding raw to Do Lou for months I was buying the primal nuggets until I had my salmonella scare and I have yet to go back to them but he just loved them but canned is cheaper and the main reason I went to raw from dry was Do Lou flat out would not touch canned but he liked these nuggets I had used them in the past when I had tried them for a different reason anyway good luck with whatever kind you try

Nice numbers today. On the fuds, just because they are raw doesn't mean they are low carb. I made the mistake of getting Stella and Chewy's once, it's MC to HC. From what I've read the Primal varieties aver very good. I just don't live in an area where I have much choice.

Check in Health, there were some good discussions there. I'll see if I bookmarked any.
