Ok ok ok.. the Fancy Feast Chopped Grill Feast must be sky rocketing the numbers. Unless he was a sneak and found the other food rt away this morning- which I don't think he did- I watched him closely but there is a slight chance he did. I'm going back the FF savory salmon and see how his number react. frustrating seeing these numbers so high.

Purring this morning when number was at 261 but then sulking and staying in his cat room which tells me he isn't feeling the best. bummer.

Hmmm... According to Janet & Binky's, chopped grill is 2% carb and the salmon is 3%.

How's Khan been acting? Is there any chance of a UTI or dental issues going on?

When did you open new Lantus? And did you check your current insulin to make sure there are no floaties?

The insulin pen is clear and shows no signs of floaties. I marked on my SS when I opened the pen. Also I keep it in the frig consistently. I really think I have been feeding the WRONG chopped grill since the can is not the same color as listed on blinky's chart.

Yes dental could be an issue- UTI-- don't know. I have not noticed any increase in litter box trips. He is happy and comes around out in living room when his numbers are close or under 250. My guess-- I've been feeding a Fancy Feast Chopped Grill Feast - Chunky.
.... maybe that is NOT the correct chopped grill that is LC?

YUP!! I just checked the Fancy Feast webpage and guess what??? shame on ME.. ha! oh well I'm human- my mistake.. easy one to do as well.. I bought the CHUNKY and not the classic.. very different stuff. I will purchase the correct food tonight and I bet his numbers dropped within the next 2-3 days. uggh!! good thing I only have to work through thursday.

Hi.....I think the chunky style does have higher carbs....not sure but there may be some gravy in there also. I think the can is green but I do not feed FF anymore so I am not positive on that one.

I'd be interested in what you are feeding since I'm open to try other foods. He does not like the Merricks Cowboy cookout or EVO venison. He is allergic to Beef. and have not ruled out chicken yet. I'd like to stay away from Grains if possible.. FF savory salmon is great but don't want to feed daily either. He has scratched most of he ear hair off and his belly and down all legs.. If only on FF savory Salmon the hair comes back. He did really like the Merricks BG Turkey but ears got really red, but will try it again.

I switched Putty to all Wellness.....turkey, chicken, and chicken and beef. It is grain-free. The only time he eats FF is when he goes low and needs higher carb food with gravy. He liked it at first but every once in a while I have to sprinkle some Halo freeze dried chicken treats to get him to eat it....the treats do not have any carbs.

Initially, Gabby preferred FF in the Classic/pate style. I only feed poultry flavors. She doesn't like EVO.

I now feed primarily a raw diet and use Feline Future pre-mix for the supplements. I also give both cats some Wellness in poultry flavors.

I have the Wellness as well. He seemed to like the Chicken this morning but unsure how much since I had left that for him to eat while I'm gone to work. I add water to it. I'll pick some of the FF savory salmon to get his numbers back into control THEN I'll try the Wellness again. Thank you- really appreciate the input.

Geezzzz I'm kicking myself that I fed him that HC food! oh well I'll let it go- life happens.. I have a lot going on - like most people.. Khan will survive. :)

Honestly I'd be happy to try the raw diet however just knowing how I am I really need step by step directions- I don't mind if there are MANY steps just as long as I can follow it. I have a metal hand grinder and a bullet which can pretty much puree anything.
If in the end: better for Khan, simplifies my life-hopefully saves me money/time- I'd do it.

I've looked up some raw diet receipes but really my brain said.. ah.. not sure if I can do this and feel comfortable that I did it rt. If your way is simple enough and your willing to share or talk on the phone I'd be all for it. :)

I have a full stand up freezer I can use as well.

EVO is really dry and pasty.. I've chunked it up and added warm water but even my grandma cat won't eat it unless I add a beef FF to it. but I don't care as long as she is eating and getting enough water I'm happy. For her I'm moving towards BG Beef.. just so hard to feed all the different foods. My goal is to find LC, Low phosphorus I can feed to Khan and Grandma and Wisp (doesn't matter what she eats- she has breast cancer- and won't be with us long (very sad) but until then as long as she eats, drinks and is running around like she is I don't worry. The more I can stream line the easy it is for my household and I could have my son help too.

i'm not much help, cuz in the LC...binks only likes friskies...

at least it costs less than some!

come down, Khan!

The raw is actually easy if you use a pre-mix. Basically, you measure out the dry pre-mix, add water, then add the ground meat to the liquid. The proportions are on the bag. I then measure out 1/4 cup amounts, wrap them in plastic wrap, and freeze. It takes more time to wrap up the patties than to mix and grind the food.

I would vote for wellness turkey, if KHAN will take that. There is also a wellness turkey/salmon. I think that one might be a bit higher in phosphorus. You could try some of the instinct flavors (duck, venison) as an alternative to evo. Fancy feast turkey should be grain free as well.

Glad you figured out what was going on with food/numbers.
