Hello folks and Happy New Year (almost)

We had a wonderful time on our trip and Mary did a great job with Shadow. It couldn't have gone better. If Shadow is confined to a small room with her automat and a kitty box, she is perfectly happy and uses both reliably.

And then it was nearly Christmas and I had to hit the ground running and wasn't able to get in here to post Shadow's condo.

On Christmas day I was working in the kitchen and noticed the floor was wet in front of the sink and when I opened the cabinet, water gushed out. The p-trap had rusted thru. Since there was no way to wash up, we bumped our family Christmas to my sister's house. But that meant there was no way to give Shadow her insulin and I certainly wasn't going to be able to get a pet sitter at that late date and I made the decision to skip 2 doses while we were away. She's never spilled ketones so I thought she would be safe. I left tons of food out for the monsters and off I went.

When I got back from the ranch and checked Shadow's BG, I decided I'd give it a couple days and just watch her and see what happened. And I'm still watching. She's had 5 days of no insulin so I'm pretty sure her shed is drained by now, right? I'm ready to step back in and start it all up again as soon as she shows signs of rising BG.

If there is something else I need to be doing, I hope someone will advise me.

I have hesitated to post all this because it hasn't happened according to protocol and Shadow and I have been committed to the protocol up to this point. She wouldn't still be with me if I hadn't come across Dr. Lisa's site and stumbled into this place.

I hope everyone has had a Happy Christmas. Tena told me Michelle is a grandmother and Mowgli went OTJ so I'm off to read condos for the first time in quite a while. It will be good to catch up with everyone and I noticed some new kitties have joined us here in LL.

KIM!! We're so glad to have you back and I would love it if you could pm me sometime and tell me about your trip!!! Congrats on the OTJ trial for Shadow!!!! Sorry to hear about the plumbing problem but looks like it was fate so you would know that Shadow is ready to try it without the juice! Welcome back..we've missed you!!!

I was wondering where you were - I'm glad you're back. And with such great news! It sounds like your OTJ trial is going great! I hope you got your plumbing problem fixed. Go Shadow! :RAHCAT :RAHCAT

Here are the OTJ trial instructions that Libby has passes along:

  • Test at your normal AMPS and PMPS times. Feed multiple small meals throughout the day as much as possible (small meals are less likely to overwhelm a newly functioning pancreas).
  • If your cat is green at your normal test times, no need to test further until the next "PS" time, just feed small meals and go about your day. If he is blue, feed a small meal and test again after about 3 hours. If his number is lower 3-4 hours after a meal, then his pancreas is working!
  • Sometimes the trial doesn't work the first time and we have to give a little more support in the form of resuming insulin. It's not the end of the world if that happens, we just give him the support he needs. Our goal is a strong remission and it's better to take our time to get that than to rush into remission just to have it fail later on.

It is best to be feeding small meals throughout the day. A snack at +9 is also good to help keep the pre-shot numbers down. Good luck with the rest of the trial.

Congratulations! This was a surprise, but a happy surprise!!

:-D I will send you info via PM on where to send the photos for your OTJ party video. :-D

oh wow, what's going on in here?

Congratulations, looks great. I was thinking about you the other day but hadn't looked for your spreadsheet yet. What a surprise!

I assume you're going to shove this in the face of the vet that had Shadow on 10u?
