Oscar's numbers still show his random wonkiness, but overall, seem really good. The new pen seems to have brought his numbers down finally. No more drinking from the Christmas tree stand since I covered it up. I made our first batch of homemade raw food per Dr. Lisa's recipe yesterday and discovered two things: 26lbs of chicken quarters equals out to MORE than 26 pounds of kitty food lol, and I need a butchers knife (sawing through bone sucks and is time consuming). Took me 3.5 hours to do everything @-) and it doesn't look appetizing to me, but the cats love it. As soon as I started cutting up the chicken to send through the grinder I had 3 cats sitting by my feet patiently waiting for tidbits  Right now I am mixing it 50/50 FF and homemade raw since my civie Daisy will not eat a pure raw diet as of yet.

No behavior changes for Oscar. Right now he is asleep at the top of his cat tower.

I hope everyone has a wonderful New Year's Eve! I plan on spending it on the couch with the hubby and a bottle of cheap champagne drinking09

good luck on the raw diet, you'll see a great improvement in your kitties coat and their eyes will be bright and LB deposits smaller LOL! I think you'll be happy with the results.

Have a happy New Year and a grand 2011

Wow 3.5 hours of food prep.. I hope Oscar likes his raw diet !! How long does 26 lbs last for 1 cat? I don't know if Frip would like it... I'll go check Dr. Lisa's recipe.

Haha, you're telling me! I was expecting to be done in 2 hours or less! From the look of my full freezer, I am guessing 1.5 to maybe (hopefully) 2 months for 3 cats? We'll see though. Next time I definitely plan on getting less meat and am already looking at good meat cleavers.

edit to add: I purchased 26 pounds of chicken leg quarters because my local grocery store was running a weekly special on Perdue chicken - $0.88/lb. (grain fed with no additives) It made the food half the cost of feeding FF. I just couldn't pass up cleaning their shelves out.

Wow. 3.5 hours for food prep!! I make 4 lbs a week but it lasts more than a week. I'm not grinding bone and it takes me about an hour to grind, mix, and make up 1/4 cup patties. The cats may have some GI issues the first few weeks of the transition but it will pass. Not only will there be a difference in their poop, it will be less smelly, as well.
