Hi everyone. I hope you are all doing well.
I just wanted to stop in and give you a long overdue update on Doodle.
Honestly, I have the hardest time with this - because I'm not sure what to say.
He's doing "better"... I'd like to say he's doing well, but I often wonder if I'll ever be able to say that again.
Maybe "doing well" is relative... and this is his new doing well - I don't know... I'm just happy that he is still with me.
It's been almost 2 months now and he still has his feeding tube - though he is eating enough on his own that I am only tube feeding him twice a day at this point.
He's gained back a pound and can now jump up on the nightstand again. So as of last night, I decided that he could be unsupervised overnight nailbite_smile and I moved out of the guest room and back into my own room. Unfortunately that actually means less sleep for me - not only because I've decided the guest bed is more comfortable  but because now I 'll have to get up to feed him. ( my civvie leaves no food uneaten.) I'm thinking maybe I can tweak his shot times so that I only have to get up once - we'll see...
He developed an abscess near the insertion site a couple of weeks ago and had to have it lanced and drained. I was worried we were going to have to remove the tube but I was able to flush out the infection everyday and it has healed really nicely.
He's tolerating the anti-fungal med well, and his breathing is now completely normal sounding - so we're pretty confident that his lung problems were entirely caused by the crypto rather than asthma. So that's good I guess.
His BG has been all over the place. (Ever since they pumped him full of R at the hospital he has not been the same...) I tried BID for a while trying to stop his bouncing by just accepting higher numbers - but his numbers just kept inching up. I guess we're going back to QID at this point because that's the only way to avoid those HI readings that can't be easy on his poor little kidneys. I'm not even keeping a SS anymore but I may try to update soon if I can't get some sort of regulation.
(please note that we've been doing this for over 3 years and I have lots of experience- this type of dosing can be very dangerous for most cats)
I will say that comparative to a month ago - he's doing well.
He's alert and responsive - he's affectionate. He's peeing, pooping, and purring. He doesn't play or preen - but we've made an agreement that I will keep him clean and provide him with a window and plenty of catnip for stimulation - and that we will both just be happy to spend this very special time together.
I love my Doodle
