Yesterday's Condo

Still testing both meters, but using relion numbers here until I get a hang of the Advocate... it is taking some getting used to! Per Sienne's suggestion, we've dosecreased up to 1.5u today. Both meters have been a bit wonky... I just gave up last night (I knew Willie was in a safe range), and then this morning at +2, the Relion gave me a "Lo" and the Advocate a 22. :shock: Not. kewl. Quickly retested and got more normal numbers. Took me a few seconds and a mental reminder to breathe!

Not sure what is up with the Wee Dub. Last night and this morning, he's seemed less than his chipper self. He's a little less enthusiastic about eating (though, still eating. He is my Willie, after all!), and will cry if I pick him up. He also seems to get more irritated with pokes, etc. than normal, though he is still wanting to be close to me, so I know it isn't too bad. When Willie is feeling really yucky, he tends to seek out cooler spots and very much wants to be left alone. We're not there, but I'm keeping an eye on him and making a note of it nonetheless.

My heart would have stopped too - wow. Glad you got more normal numbers. I'd rather have a 200 than a 20 any day.

Hope all is well with Willie. Maybe you can pick him up twenty times today to bring him to the testing spot just to hug and kiss him instead of poke him. And give him treats too.

Hey, Karrie! I do have to figure out some sort of treat for him. Since we're poultry-free, it eliminates almost all options for commercial treats. Being toothless eliminates most of the remaining ones. He has some freeze dried shrimp, but they are too crunchy for his taste, so I typically just crumble them on his food... suppose I could just crumble them on a plate and he could lap up the shrimp dust? Will have to make a trip to petsmart this weekend and see if there are any options I've missed!

Have you ever tried the oceanwhitefish purebites?? My cats have few teeth but they seem to be able to eat these--

whoa on the 22, and the Lo. that would have got my attention too. glad it was a strip/meter error.

I hope all is well with Willie. I don't have any more treat suggestions than what you have already thought of. I'd probably be doing the dust on the plate.

Of course Willie gives me a 56 right as I'm walking out the door to go to my tennis lesson (that i've skipped for the past two weeks already). And of course my sister isn't answering her phone. And I"ve been feeding him all day, so busting out the Natural Balance (not sure of the carb %, but I know Dr. LIsa sd it was too high to feed him normally) didn't pique his interest.

I guess tennis, like sleep at times, is overrated.

Aw, sorry you had that LO heart attack- I'd have been stunned too! I'm so glad it was a meter/strip error I hope things improve for the Wee Dub this weekend. I'd probably be doing the shrimp dust thing too, in your position.

Christie: wow on the lo reading and now when you are ready to go out getting a 56! I've had to cancel golf lessons...bummer. We all need to keep involved in our activities and it's hard to do. I hope Willie will be feeling better this afternoon! And I hope you had a great tennis lesson!

Glad it was just the strips.. how odd for both meters to have that happen.. speaking of meters.. you sure switch a lot :lol:
I was always told to stick with one for consistency, hopefully you will like this new one ;-)

Nicole! Glad you're still around these parts!! I hope that you and Baby are doing well!!

Ended up going to my tennis lesson. His numbers have moved upward a bit at +6.5, so I called my sister, who said she'd walk over (she lives 4 blocks away but has not car). Of course, then she didn't show up (yeah, there's going to be a talk about THAT.).

We are hopefully with the Advocate for the long haul, I have 600 strips to use!! Really, the issue was cost. Trying to find the best meter we can live with that has the lowest strip cost. Through ebay, we got these for $0.17/strip, which is less than half the price of the Relion. Until he is better regulated, it is just a big expense. I'm gearing up to buy a house this summer, so every penny counts right now... just got done with Christmas, property tax, and bar license fees... now I have to get the rest of the credit cards paid down to zero in the next month or two. Hopefully Willie and I will have a new home soon!

I wonder if the shrimp and ocean fish freeze dried treats would blend up into a dust. I use the magicbullet blender and it makes a fine powder. He'd be able to lick up the powder easily. Didn't know he was toofless. That couldn't have been fun for him at all. Ouch. Great PMPS

Couldn't find the shrimp/ocean fish ones, but did get a big container of freeze dried salmon, and he loves it! I think if I put a dab of water on it, it would be plenty soft for him, but I can also just take a small piece and squish it between my fingers to get it to become a dust. Works just fine (though, I suppose I could put the whole container in a chopper for convenience... good idea!

Amen on the PMPS! Though, I need to change the number. I feel comfortable with the Advocate meter's numbers, so we're going with that from here on out!

Okay, so tonight at PetSmart, they had nanners, so I got Willie one. When I first gave it to him, he seemed disinterested. He's been napping on the loveseat in the dining room, and when I went to give him his +2 poke, I found him asleep, with the nanner as a pillow! LOL Apparently, nanners do indeed rule!!

Hi, Christie.. I have found Whole Life Oceanfish for Baby at Brookside Barkery
I did not look at the one by you so you might call first, but found mine in Olathe (closest to me)
I have so many freeze dried treats & I blend them in the blender & sprinkle on Baby's Raw - she has teeth, I do it as a treat.
