lookin good this morning - he sat in the middle of the kitchen floor purring very loudly while i got his food ready.

"go mom go! make sure you give me the full amount today!"

kinda like having a cheerleader waiting. :lol:

So glad Punkin is doing so well after the dental. I have scheduled Simon for a dental next Friday (not this week) and am very nervous. I'm glad Punkin did so well -- makes me feel a little better.

Thanks for adding that Laurie. I posted, but i was so tired. in fact, i got a call on my cell, looked at the number on the screen with an area code 696 (unknown to me). The man said is this "my number exactly" and i said "you dialed the wrong area code" cuz i was thinking of the number he'd called from. :lol: at that point i went back to bed.

i would say there were only 2 small things that even indicated he'd had the dental work done - last night he didn't seem to want his lower jaw scratched (no doubt sore) and once when he tried to jump off the arm of the chair, he didn't quite make it to the ottoman and sorta slid down to the floor. kinda uncoordinated. other than that he was completely normal.

the vet just called - all the blood work came back today and was completely normal. yay! he said the teeth would've definitely made punkin's mouth sore. one tooth had a hole in it and when they put in the probe, they touched gum that bled. the other tooth had enamel erosion below the gumline. so we've taken care of that now. yay again!

Julie: so glad he's feeling better today!!! And his numbers are AWESOME!! He's such a trooper. You know his mouth has to be sore. I'm thinking maybe some green tonight????

i've been noticing the past few days (since about 3/21) that his nadir seems to have "slid" later. Instead of being about +5ish, it seems to be more like +7ish.

Anyone know anything about that? what would make it change when i haven't changed factors except dose adjustments?

is there any significance to it, other than now i am worried he might be going too low at 3am instead of the lowest point being at midnight when i can check it?

Punkin seems to be getting back on track quickly. Good to see.

The only comment I have about nadir is that it may change now because the dental issue resolution may help. When it is changing, I only know to watch that a dose change may be brewing. Maybe the nadir shifts but the overall curve is flatter, ECID. You just have to know what's going on with YOUR kitty, and you have a good handle on that.

I wanted to add - wait and see if/how the dental affects his numbers going forward.

I tend to think of the nadir as a moving target. For some cats, it's generally the same. For others, it may be different during he AM vs. the PM cycle. For others, it depends on the kitty's mood, the alignment of the stars, what phase the moon is in, what you fed them for breakfast -- you get the picture! They're cats. It's their job to be unpredictable.

i gotta get it out of my head that this is a mathematical equation! :-D i'm working on it. Didn't realize i was so very analytical until this whole feline diabetes thing. I like cause and effect! :lol:

nice numbers today - YAY Punkin - love those greens!

Mannie's nadir has shifted a couple of times, reason unknown. I do test alot so it was easy enough to see the change. Never could figure out why, just that it did.

Just be alert the next few days/weeks in case Punkin's numbers start to change quickly.

ok, i'm watching. PMPS 72? I didn't test him from 8.5 til now, so don't know if he went even lower

how much do i shoot him? I was going to go to my quilting group (starting now) but can skip it if i should stay and test.

hmmm, I would probably stall. Normally I would yell SHOOOOOOOOT but with the uncertainty from just having had a dental, I would wait a little bit if possible. Better safe than sorry.

yes, i fed half his regular dinner (so he got 1/2 can of Fancy Feast) just now. saving the other 1/2 so i can get the shot in.

cooperative little guy, you know! :lol:

he's 98 at +12.5 after eating 1/2 of his dinner.

i'm assuming i should go ahead and shoot . . . 2 questions:

1. dose change or ?
2. at what time should i recheck him? ie, should i forgo my quilting group (which is ok) - or should i say " at what + time would YOU recheck him?"

at what + hour will you be home? It looks like a good rise. I probably wouldn't reduce yet (make him earn it), but if you're not going to be home for a while then err on the side of caution.

I don't think 2 hours will be a big problem. You can always feed MC or HC for dinner if it will make you feel better. If you would be gone several hours, when the action of the cycle is getting going, then it might be different.

I'm not trying to encourage you to shoot if you don't want to. There are a lot of variables at play tonight and it makes the result harder than usual to predict. If you stall until you get back, when would you have to be back on your regular schedule?

i have a "procedure" tomorrow afternoon to remove a cyst, other than that, i am at punkin's disposal.

i think, though, that i'd prefer to shoot now and stay somewhat on schedule and skip my group over changing the schedule too much. that would move it to 10ish-10ish, and i've been trying to stay up and check him as late as possible in the evening while still getting to sleep.

so i think i'll go ahead and shoot and skip the group.

he's down to 80 at +1.5 . . .

have the feeling it's gonna be a long night. good thing my new order of test strips & lancets came today.

note to self: recheck the posts in my sig line when i need that info. NOW i'm rereading and realize i shouldn't have fed him when i was stalling. one more credit earned in Feline Diabetes University.

are you kidding? i feel like i'm flunking. honestly, why didn't i look at the stupid link on how to deal with low pre-shots? it's stuck on my sig line!!!! in fact, i have only read that about 20 times and it somehow doesn't stay in my head.

*sigh* i've got the supplies of gravy available. punkin'll probably love that! one good side of this! :lol:

i saw, hmmm was it nicole, whoever it was that gave their cat 5 units instead of .5 for their first dose . . . that made me feel better. heehee. and the best part is the kitties manage to survive through our fumblings.

i forgot to say 64 at +2.5.

hmmm. i feel like i'm facing a minefield. his numbers are all rising, but still greens . . . BUT, his lowest numbers earlier today were between +8 and +12.

so i don't know if i can call it a night yet or not. maybe i'll set the alarm for 2 hours and check him then - that would be 3am for us.
