Good Friday Morning, Everyone,

Rusty and I just finished a good game of Cat's Cradle with Red Ears and his string. He's sitting on the radiator now, observing the cold morning (21 degrees, but we have sunshine). Tonight it's supposed to go down into the 'teens and we may get some snow!! This is the winter that doesn't want to end. But it was sure great to get out in my canoe on the water yesterday, even though the air was cold and damp (see trip description in yesterday's condo). Rusty is a little high again this morning, but had a good night sleeping between his beans. Both sittings of breakfast have been eaten. When it warms up a bit we'll take him outside again. The other day he explored the perimeter of the "barn" and went up the outside staircase (which has open steps). He didn't like looking through the spaces when trying to come down, and I had to go up and carry him down!

Everyone have a good day today,

Ella & Rusty (who is on his way to Gracie's to help guard the catnip)

Re: 4/15 Rusty AMPS 128

Good morning Ella!

So sorry about the weather. It really looks like winter never ends, ugh.
You seem to live in such a great environment for a cat to enjoy - I envy you! And Rusty! :-D

Re: 4/15 Rusty AMPS 128

Rusty must love his home, such adventures to be had and exploring to do.

It's bloody cold here today too. Stay warm and enjoy your day

Re: 4/15 Rusty AMPS 128

Ella...I'm sending y'all some nice warm breezes today.

I do enjoy reading the Adventures of Ella in your condo.

Have a great day my dear.

Re: 4/15 Rusty AMPS 128

Re: 4/15 Rusty AMPS 128

Sounds like a great place to live for cats and beans! Except the weather right now...brrrr! we also have cold and rain (maybe snow later). The kitties know it's a good day for power naps, so they're out cold!

Rusty, we gots to get to Gracie fast! Her bean is sickus and Gracie is getting lotsa pokeys! Spread the word, ok? Tessie Lou

Re: 4/15 Rusty AMPS 128

Awww, what a good bean to carry him down when he was scared. Rusty is looking good this morning and I'm glad he is snuggled up by the radiator. That weather is just too cold for me. Whooooooo!!! Hope you all have a Happy Friday!

sweet on the canoe trip!

Binks made a dash outside and wound up on the roof of the shed...then waited impatiently for me to come get him down...

Re: 4/15 Rusty AMPS 128, +5.5 88

That's a nice 88 bg for the +5.5 for Rusty. so glad you were able to get a canoe ride in yesterday! Wow, you still are having snow and cold weather! That has to be the longest winter. We're having an early summer. Enjoy your weekend.

your kayaking adventure sounds wonderful! we're full of life around here, even though it's still a bit cold. i very nearly have an aviary in the oak tree next to our living room window. i'm a sucker for feeding the birds and squirrels (imagine that) and the oak - well, it's alive with birds and song. there are a lot of american goldfinches, lbj's, finches, sparrows, chickadees and nuthatches. the nuthatches crack me up - they don't sing but they have a particular sound they make that's like they're chatting with you. from all over our neighborhood you can hear that tree tweeting.

we also have an undeveloped space behind us - a wetlands/oak savannah that's got a wild beauty to it. i walked out there yesterday - it's 2 miles to the end of the path and back - wishing i'd brought my camera along.

hope you're having a great day!

Sounds like Rusty & Binks are two of a kind! Just came in from about 1/2 hour outdoors with Rusty. He saw a squirrel and made a dash for it and I had to chase him down and pick him up and bring him in! I told him not to mess with squirrels because he might get hurt (this admonition fell on deaf ears). Then Edward and he had a rousing game of Red Ears + string. Edward said he took out all of his squirrel frustration on the string. Rusty is now "resting". We just had a schmooze.

Before we went outside I did a +9 test and we have a nice, green surf going this afternoon. But the excitement of the squirrel may spike his bg. We'll see where we are at PMPS!

Celi: how's your back and what did you do to it???

Lovely reports from Rustyland today... and great numbers to boot!! Hope you guys have a lovely evening... and that whatever snow you get melts quickly!! Squirrels thankfully freak Willie out. If he's even on the fire escape and sees one, he'll watch for a minute all interested, then hightail it into the apartment at the slightest movement!

So much to do, Rusty!! KTSS duties... Miss Tessielou isn't feeling gud either!! Add her to de list! Plus catnip duty, birfday cake duty... guess we'z better stop lolligaggin!! --Willie

Re: 4/15 Rusty AMPS 128, +5.5 88, +9 86

it's kind of a sad story...not for me, but...

when we moved here last June, there was this old Tom cat that I spotted who had tangled with something horrible...
possibly a dog or a car engine (fan belt, maybe?)...
his entire neck was torn open from behind his ear down to his shoulder. I called animal services, but they would only come out if i had him trapped...
never could catch him.
He disappeared in Sept, and i figured he died...but earlier this week Annie was squalling, i ran out and this tom was fighting with her...
injury still huge and looming large...i'm wondering if he's infected with herpes or ?
Slipped in the wet grass running out to break them up.
Annie fannie was not at all appreciative of my half-a$$ed valiant effort...

she's so shy, but so tough...doesnt like me interfering.

I really feel bad for this old guy...but so far he has evaded every possible trap we've set...
wily ol' bugger. I truly fear he'll be be unable to be saved...it's a horrid injury, and the fact that it's still open tells me there's some underlying condition.

The girls are no longer allowed outside (and this sneaky bean is feeding him at a house across the street that's empty and for sale) :-D

Re: 4/15 Rusty AMPS 128, +5.5 88, +9 86, PMPS 87

Oh Celi, I hope that you can trap him and get him to a vet. Back in Brooklyn in the 1980s, when Feline leukemia and feline aids were such threats, we had tribes of feral cats roaming the interconnected backyards of our row houses. They were all infected with one thing or another and one of the "cat ladies" in the neighborhood wanted them trapped live and brought in for help. So she distributed Havaheart traps to many of the households and asked us to set them with canned sardines. We did trap one or two, but it was not easy. (This was before we had a cat of our own.) It really breaks your heart to see them so sick and yet unable to resist food, even though they know it is a trap. Good luck with your old Tom. And I hope your back is getting better!

How's Binks? And the girls?

I'm so glad you're keeping up with the board. Have a good weekend,

Ella & Rusty

Hi guys! better late than never huh... sorry I you this morning. I still can't believe your temps and winter weather. Then again we were 38 here this morning, and they are still having issues with snow and avalanches on the mtrn passes. Guess winter wants to stick around no matter where one lives.

It is so fun tread about Rusty and his new outdoor adventures, Too funny on having to go and rescue him from the stairs. ohmygod_smile  Too fun too with the squirrel. Mannie ignores then - in fact he's even let one or two come in the house. that was fun....

have a great night guys!

Celi - omg, and good luck with the tom. it is sad when you know they need help and you can't catch them to even try. I hope you back is getting better.

Rusty - secret covert operation on the morning: we've got to go and save Tess from the trip to SB, She gets so scared... so anyways she has this inflatable kitty dummy, and we are going to switch it out when her beans aren't looking. You wanna help? See you! ~~ Mannie
