Happy Mother's day.

I was awol yesterday cleaning up for hosting mother's day at my house this year. My mom was sneaky and asked DH (Patrick) to BBQ knowing he wouldn't say no. If she had asked me, I would have opted to join them at another one of my siblings houses darnit. Everyone has to drive over an hour to get here. Plus I hate hosting ohmygod_smile

Sending hugs to MJ and Butthead, Sienne's sister and those fighting illness/grieving.

Enjoy your day celebrating Mother's Day. It sounds like your Mom loves Patrick's barbecue skills. I am such a klutz in the kitchen and also would hate hosting. But I bet you are a good hostess. I hope Henry and Victoria are doing well.

An update on the adopticats Henry and Victoria...

Victoria is all settled in. She is a loving beautiful kitty. When I sit upstairs in the living room she falls asleep on my lap. She plays on her own lots, loves catnip, explores and explores and explores. No place is off limits for this kitty. She drools when she is getting loved. She loves belly rubs big time. She does not love Henry. She accepts him, but if he cuts in on cuddle time or annoys her (by walking by or starting to play with something in her area), she'll swat him. He then slinks away. She loves to watch the squirrels and the birds eat on the deck, gets all crouched down and sits there for hours watching. When I rest my arm from petting her, she'll reach her paw out and touch me to tell me she wants more.

Henry is still not settled in. He wavers between being out and about and very outgoing to hiding under the bed or in the bathroom. He is still fighting some sniffles. He is getting lysine gel. We are learning to read him, if he rolls on his belly that does not mean he wants to be petted. He lets you know when he wants to be near you and not petted by biting hard. So now we give him a few pets and he contently lies down. He has picked Patrick as his bean. He fell asleep in the crook of his arm in bed the other night. He just loves Pat. Pat sees that Henry has two sides to him and he calls the unhappy Henry... Benry. "is it Henry or is it Benry?" No happy tails from Henry yet but his tail is sometimes straight out so thats good. Compared to the first couple weeks where it was down all the time. He has shelter legs I think from not getting exercise. He doesn't jump and when he does its not very graceful  He doesn't like traditional cat toys - they scare him. He loves to chew on wires and chase a laser dot.

I really would love to post a picture of the two of them together being close friends one day.

Karrie, I also have to host Mother's Day at my home this evening. It is also my brother's birthday, so everyone thinks I should do the hosting since I'm the only one not celebrating being a mother or having a birthday. I want to say, but wait, I do have children even if they have fur and meow! I haven't done any cleaning in awhile because of the bad migraines I was having, but they are finally easing up some after going to acupuncture. Now I am in a cleaning frenzy. Everyone is also expecting to sit outside by the pool. That means we have to uncover it and do some serious cleaning up before it can look presentable. But in the long run, it will be worth all the hassle because I do love my mom and brother and his family so much and it will be a wonderful evening!! And of course, my DH will be doing the grilling. Hope everyone has a fantastic Mother's Day!!

Really cute videos of Victoria and Henry. It looks like Victoria is very possessive of you, and she now owns you, sweet! That is so cute that Henry sleeps in the crook of Patrick's arm. I hope Henry recovers from the sniffles. My neighbor has a cat that does the same as Henry. If someone goes to pet him and he's not ready, he gives a quick bite to say, stop! Thanks for sharing the videos.

I must have posted the same time as you, Karrie, because I didn't see the videos until now. Your babies are just the cutest and very animated. They look so healthy and happy. Sorry Henry still has the sniffles but it doesn't seem to bother his laser playing. I'm so glad they are adjusting and really becoming part of your family.

Hi Karrie love the videos sounds like progress is being made and I think in time the cats will be friends. We were supposed to go to breakfast this morning for mothers day but my Mom has parkinsons really bad and has many bad days now and she canceled right after Do Lou's shot this morning so I will be going over later and visiting.

Hi Georgia hope the migraines are better you know acupuncture is like the only thing i have not tried in the last 10 yrs for my migraines I really should look into it I think

Hope everyone has a great day I have to clean all day today its been a few days and well cat hair is in build up mode as well as litter

Hi Karrie,

Love reading about your two. It sounds like Henry needs some patience and time to unpack his bags. Sounds like he has had it hard for a bit. You never know a creatures past life when we adopt. Some recover and come around quickly...others suffer with the post-stress for some time...and others never recover. I think I have a little of each in my three right now.

Attie psychologically I'd say has fully recovered. Medically we're working on it.

Gary seems to be coming around, but still has his trust issues from time to time.

MudCat, while she realizes she is safe...full trust most likely will never be forthcoming.

But we love them all anyway.

I love Vcitoria and Henry updates and videos! They are both so very sweet. It does sound like Henry may have had a rough go of it early on. I'm sure he truly appreciates being in a loving furever home, where he can just be himself. I'm sure he'll eventually feel safe, secure, and settled. And he knows how to show that dot who's boss, doesn't he!!

Have a lovely day, everyone! I've got to work today, but since my job involves playing with beads, I can't complain....

Amy

Lisa, you definitely should look into acupuncture for your migraines. That has been the only thing that has really helped me. A co-worker also gets migraines and she went to see my acupuncturist, and since then, hasn't had a migraine and it has been over 6 months.

Karrie, I'm waiting furevvvver, for a video to load. So far, I see what looks like the ceramic water fountain, and a bushy tail. :-D
Do you like it better than the plastic? I find the plastic very hard to scrub clean of hard water deposits, now that my dishwasher is no longer operational. I was thinking of investing in the ceramic. I'm pretty sure Sienne said a while ago, has one too.
Maybe she'll comment also? Huh Sienne, huh?

You might try soaking/wiping with a sponge with white vinegar, to help dissolve the water deposits.

Happy Mother's Day one and all!
Karrie, love the videos! I wish I'd think of dragging out the camera more often. I agree with Lisa. It does look like progress is being made.

A quick update on my grandson...
After showing some great signs of recovery they removed the IV. Guess it was done a little prematurely because now he's had a relapse. New IV. New ab. We're hoping to see some improvement soon. If that doesn't work, not sure what the next step is.
Please keep the healing vines coming. He's been quite the trooper, but this is wearing thin on him too. :(

On a more pleasant note...
Hope everyone is enjoying their day!

Karrie....love the vidoes of your kitties.....both are just beautiful. Harry really loves that laser. Thanks for the reminder.....my kitties use to have one....think I lost it in the move last Oct.

Jill.....sorry your DGS is back on the IV.....sending prayers and healing vines for the kiddo. And calming vines for his mom.

Jill I'm sorry your DGS has to go through this. Must be so hard to see a little one being poked and unwell and you probably wish you could trade places with him. I'm sending healing vines for him also.

Jill you should pull the camera out more often and share

Barb its a plastic one. I have hard water also and I was wondering how it would hold up. But then I remembered the cats/dog get bottled water  Its still fairly high in hardness but without the yuckiness of the well water (iron, iron bacteria, ammonia etc). I saw a stainless steel one yesterday for $60 at Petvalue and I was really impressed. Its small in size though compared to the one I bought. I think I bought this one in the dog section because they were all out in the cat section at Petsmart. Henry and Victoria are mezmorized with running water and come running when I pour fresh water into the other bowls. I think I'm going to invest in one that has a spout action vs. the ramp - Maverick wouldn't have liked the spout which is why I chose this one. Victoria has the bushiest tail - its like a peacock feather the way it fans out. I can do clips next time - like five second videos just for you Barb :)

Anyone else wondering what Amy does? (Playing with beads??)   I'm curious.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions about Henry adjusting. Guess three weeks isn't very long. I won't rush him. Is there anything I should be doing specifically though?

Karrie: Victoria and Henry are Beeeyoootiful!!! Mike and I laughed and laughed at Henry playing with the laser. I think definitely you need to give him lots more time...he's been through alot. I actually think it looks and sounds like he's doing pretty well. Victoria looks like a SF with her little ears!

Jill: I'm so very sorry to hear DGS had a relapse and is still in the hospital. We send our prayers and healing vines that he will get to go home soon and will quickly and fully recuperate.

Barb: I have a ceramic fountain and love it. Switched from the plastic ones. We have reverse osmosis water in our house but before we put the RO in, I used bottled water. Even with that, got some water staining on the plastic and also on a stainless steel one I tried (but sent back). Here's the link to the fountain I have...don't know if it is the same as Sienne's or not:

LOL...I have my dream job: I co-own a bead store, Artful Beads. I discovered beads probably about 16 or so years ago, and was instantly hooked. Within a year, I was selling jewelry at art shows, then I learned how to make my own glass beads using a small scale glass blowing process called "lampworking". While doing shows to sell my lamworked beads, I met my two business partners, and - as they say - the rest is history!

Here's a link to our website (I'm the "webmaster", too - lucky me!) :

As for Henry...I think what your doing is working just fine. Just let Henry be Henry, and that will make him feel safe and secure. He'll eventually settle in just fine...it just takes longer for some kitties.

Hi All, I'm in NYC and not typing well on this device, but wanted to wish everyone a happy Mothers' day.

Karrie the kitties are so neat. Victoria is beautiful and Henry looks like a little koala bear: so cute, and a real hunter if the lazier play is any indication. I like the way Victoria watches him and then walks away!

Jill, continued prayers for your DGS. I hope he will get better soon.

Amy, awesome website!

Lisa, migraines, be gone!!!

Ella

Hey all kitties. Party in Central Park tomorrow. Meet at the hot dog cart!

Karrie, that's so sweet of you to offer to make shorter clips, but everybody else can see these fine, so I'll see them when I go to my DD's house. I just have to save the thread. I have sent the link to Butthead, to her house aleady, so I can do these too.
Thanks to you and Ella for the fountain advice. I rermember researching this one a while back. People complained that the bowl was too small and the cat made a mess. Checks already makes puddles, but pulling the water out with his paw.
I tried using purchased water, but It's cheaper to just wash it every couple of days, 'cause Checks gets 'stuff' in his water, from playing in it.
