Good Morning LL Fam~~ Can't seem to get enough ~O) ~O) ~O) This morning..
My boy has me nailbite_smile nailbite_smile once again.. Does any one know if Clavamox is a 14Day AB.. Tommy only got 7days. His last one was Sunday evening and Yesterday afternoon is when we started to go up again to the icky floors.. I'm wondering if his infection hasn't quite cleared and that's what is elevating his numbers so badly. Just talking out loud.

Big Hugs to all :YMHUG:
Have a wonderful Day!
Me and Tommy ;-)

Re: 5/10 Tommy +10 490 .25R, AMPS 520

call your vet and ask - mine gave punkin a total of 20 days. i took him in after 10 days for a recheck and his mouth looked good, but the vet said clindamycin usually you use longer.

was that for his bladder?

hope tommy comes down for you today!

Re: 5/10 Tommy +10 490 .25R, AMPS 520

Julie, yes that was for his bladder. I will be calling this morning to find out the results hopefully, since they have not called yet! Argggggghhh!!!
I hope he does too, poor little fellow can't decide what floor to be on!

Julie, just got off the phone with the vet.. The culture grew NOTHING again.. He's going to give me another 14day supply of clavamox. He wants me to give it to him 2x a day for 7 days and then maybe 1 every other day to wean him down he said.. Does this make sense to you?

Re: 5/10 Tommy +10 490 .25R, AMPS 520

Hi guys .. not real sure about the clavamox question .. but I sure do hope tommy comes down soon for you .. tommy, come on down ok?? Have a great day guys!

Re: 5/10 Tommy +10 490 .25R, AMPS 520

Hi - I think the length of the AB's depends upon the infection being treated. Mannie had UTI a while back, was on clavamox for 21 days, since he was battling two bacterias, and they required longer dosing. He had Ecoli and one I can't now remember. Higher numbers may indicate that he needs more? Anyways - I'd call you vet and ask... Good luck!

Tommy - come on down, please. It would make your bean very happy!

Re: 5/10 Tommy +10 490 .25R, AMPS 520

Well, I called the Vet back again, spoke with a vet tech i believe, good news... :-D :-D Both samples of blood were refridgerated for the trip to MSU.. I can't tell you the relief in finding that out.. and the bill for drawing the blood and sending it up there and testing... He's charging me $138... That's not bad is it.. I will be heading out in just a bit to go get another 14day supply of Clavamox..even though the culture came back negative, which again i'm grateful for.

PeterDevonMocha, thank you for the good wishes, I hope he listens to you and comes down too!

Michelle & Mannie, He's battling some sort of bladder problem and was given a 7day supply until we knew if the culture grew anything.. found out this morning that it didn't, but his infection is probably still there..
It would make his bean very happy if he would come down. Thank you for sending good thoughts to us.. :-D

I have to put my 2 cents in here. If the culture grew nothing, it means there's no infection and, therefore, no antibiotics are needed. Champ has had two bouts of sterile cystitis in the past. The symptoms are EXACTLY the same as a bladder infection/UTI. He strained to urinate, hardly anything came out, what did come out had blood in it, etc. The difference between a UTI and sterile cystitis is that there is no bacteria present. I would ask your vet about this. What caused the sterile cystitis in Champ was stress...the first time was when we had our house up for sale and there were a lot of strangers coming in and out and the second time was when we actually moved into the new house. What "cured" Champ was ketoprofen which is an anti-inflammatory. I don't know if this is prescribed for diabetic cats because Champ wasn't diabetic at the time. It cleared him up almost immediately, though. Just ask your vet if this is a possibility. Antibiotics are prescribed for nonexistent UTI's all the time and it's a dangerous practice because it will make drug-resistant organisms that no antibiotics will be able to kill.

squirrel, you're doing a great job with the Tommy - and look at his numbers today! you're gonna make sure he's rising before the pm shot, right?

Stalling is no fun, but you know that all too well.. We had the "pleasure" of doing that together a few weeks back huh! ;-) Thanks for looking out for us.. Somebody has too ohmygod_smile

Celi, where on earth did you get that Cow.. I want it!!
Tommy has almost managed to cover the entire color spectrum today.. but that's just fine with me :-D
Thank you for the   . I needed it..

Re: 5/10 Tommy AMPS 520,+6 175,+9 105,+10 94

bwahahahahaha celi! we miss you when you're not here!

any idea about this slide into home base, squirrel? did he have R today?

Re: 5/10 Tommy AMPS 520,+6 175,+9 105,+10 94

i just google whatever fits the situation, like holy cow pics, or surf cat pics...then choose the one i like...

Re: 5/10 Tommy AMPS 520,+6 175,+9 105,+10 94

Well it couldn't have been more perfect. That's exactly how i felt every time i pokied him today.. I had no idea what i was gonna get.. @-)

Re: 5/10 Tommy AMPS 520,+6 175,+9 105,+10 94

it's kind of funny on the "other side"...

binks still heads for the test rug 2 or 3 times a day...
then catches himself halfway there and gives me this toothy grin
and an embarrassed look...

i remind him that we have no idea how long this hiatus will last, so practice is okay!

Re: 5/10 Tommy AMPS 520,+6 175,+9 105,+10 94

Julie, he did 2hrs before his amps. but that's all, none since then.. That's some slide huh..Taking  a look at his SS.. I think he went down gradual enough, what do you think?

  That is so funny.. Did you tell him it's like riding a bike, once you know how you never forget?
Do you still give him a snackus or treat for being a good boy when he does that?
If i can have a vote on the hiatus please, he can never have to come back so long as you don't go away.. I believe some one else said something
similar to you earlier today! You bring a special kind of humor around here that we definitely don't need to be without..

Re: 5/10 Tommy AMPS 520,+6 175,+9 105,+10 94

Have you read Dr. Lisa's page on Urinary Tract Health? It might answer some of your questions. I don't think I would give the AB if he doesn't have infection present. Is he still showing symptoms? If so, maybe pain meds would help.

Is Tommy cruising in for a green preshot?

Re: 5/10 Tommy AMPS 520,+6 175,+9 105,+10 94

Libby, no i have not read that, but i will.
He is urinating fine now, no throwing up.. I think one of the reasons he wanted to keep him on for another week or so was because of the swollen gums around the tooth i had mentioned that broke off a few years ago. Why on earth would he tell me to keep giving AB's if the culture was negative for growth. What other symptoms should i be looking for that would warrant him remaining on AB's..
How would i know if i should get pain meds for him or not?

Should i play it safe and NOT give him any more clavamox or wait and talk with the vet?

As for the green preshot.. I feel comfortable with that, provided his pmps hasn't continued to drop on me..

Me and Tommy ;-)

how's it going, squirrel?

i knew you knew about him rising before you shoot, but that just looked so dramatic i had to say it anyway. i'm a mom. repeat is my middle name! you go ahead and be sarcastic, it's ok with me. what time is shot time? 8pm central?

are you and i gonna be up late together tonight? ;-)

Re: 5/10 Tommy AMPS 520,+6 175,+9 105,+10 94,+11 99

Julie, you know i was just funnin with you ;-) . Shot time is 9pm CST.. in just a few minutes..
We might just have to stay up together.. could we have a glass of wine and chill out!!
Check back in a few with some numbers..

Re: 5/10 Tommy AMPS 520,+6 175,+9 105,+10 94,+11 99

i already have my glass of wine next to me, but i'm gonna leave it for a few minutes to go for a walk with the husband. today is the perfect day here! sunny and 70 . . . we bbq'd dinner and it was perfect.

AND NCIS is on in an hour. what could be better!?

Re: 5/10 Tommy PMPS 112

Well it's not a green preshot, but a pretty number just the same.. :-D
Have a wonderful walk with your Husband. Mine is still at work

What could be better than NCIS..? I'm a CSI NY, CRIMINAL MINDS KIND OF GIRL..
I'll tell you bbq, a walk with your husband on a beautiful cool evening, a glass of wine and your fav. tv..
yeah! that sounds like a pretty terrific night if you ask me..I'm just a tad bit jealous!

Re: 5/10 Tommy PMPS 112

WOW!! What a day for you.... I leave this thing for a few hours and come back to a fantastic cycle for Tommy. SWEET! and nice shooting! what difference from that amps this morning. This is great! :-D :-D

Re: 5/10 Tommy PMPS 112

I also left and missed out all this great cycle and also talk about cystitis which Gracie battled from the time she was about 6 months old until she was almost 4. never any bacteria or crystals....chronic interstitial cystitis. Patty is 100% on the mark.

I would say if your vet is giving Tommy clavamox for a mouth infection, then you should finish it. Stopping ABs before they've had a chance to do what they need to is as bad as giving them when they are not needed. I can't recall a time when my vet only put the kitties on a 7 day course of ABs. It's usually at least 10 days but more often 14 especially if there was dental surgery involved (which doesn't apply to Tommy). Clavamox is also not typically used for bladder issues. Patty is correct....if the C&S comes back negative then there is no bladder infection. However, keep in mind that one really underdiagnosed problem is pyelonephritis (kidney infection). My Gus's C&S came back negative for bacteria and he had no symptoms but he had blood cells in his urine so I had him USed and he had pyelonephritis which requires about 4-6 weeks on baytril. I don't think this is common but if you he had blood cells in his urine then it might be worthwhile to have it checked.

For Gracie, she had an accumulation of aluminum. Once we detoxed her, her cystitis breakouts stopped anti jinx.

Good luck Squirrel and enjoy that wine!! I'll check in as well just in case Julie gets too wrapped up in NCIS

Re: 5/10 Tommy PMPS 112, +2 176

and yet, i'll just point out that i'm the only registered person online at the moment. looks like you got to call it a night, squirrel. good job for tommy today! and his bean, of course!

oh yeah, and NCIS was good - watching NCIS LA now. i like CSI but Criminal Minds, while incredibly well-written, just creeps me out one layer too far. i think it was the episode where the feet all got cut off and were hanging in a truck. around the butcher table. that was it . ..

Re: 5/10 Tommy PMPS 112, +2 176, +7.25 88

I'M HERE! I'M HERE! I'M HERE!..You guys crack me up..  Woke up with Ryleigh sleeping soundly next to me, as usual, and then  I need to go test Tommy, and Julie and Marjorie are gonna think i forgot about them.. and then i see these 2 pitiful ;-) texts making me feel soooooooo guilty for falling asleep I-)

Marjorie: Thank you for sharing your experience with me about Gracie and the cystitis..I'm glad she's better now. and the other issues that it could be. I will read about it. I appreciate you checkin in on us. I must have dozed off not too long after i read both you and Julies posts, I think around 10:30 forum time..

Julie, Did you have a good walk with your husband? I'm glad you enjoyed your NCIS.. and I can't get enough of CM.. Something about the whole profiling part of it, what makes people tick! I need to find what episode that is you are talking about, i honestly don't remember that one, and i thought i had seen them all.
Again I am so sorry for falling asleep on you ! By the looks of it you finally got to call it a night.. Punkins numbers look real sweet :-D
