Zener's Condo 06/24/11

Good morning and thanks for the help last night and this morning's info on the liver bounce. I suspect from his numbers this happened before and I had no idea what it was. Thanks to this group here for educating me and helping us get Zener feeling so much better! :YMHUG:

Getting ready to start all over again today!

PSAM was 440 after some green numbers yesterday, and we adjusted to 1.25u last night. Any advice on how to proceed today?

Just a suggestion that will be helpful for those of us who are following Zener. If you notice, the subject line in this post is the same as what's visible on the Board and is the same as in your first post in this thread (we call the thread a condo). In order for the numbers you posted showing Zener's PM values to be visible, you need to edit the subject line in your first post. That is the only subject line that everyone can see unless they open your condo. If we're trying to make sure Zener is safe and see if you need help, it's best to change what everyone can see. Also, in order to move your condo to the top of the queue and for it to not get buried, you need to add a new post.

I had a little trouble sorting out how to change the subject line, and am a little confused on the differences in replying to a post, starting a new post and starting a new thread. Is there a place on tech help area on the board to learn about this?

Re: 06/25/11 Zener's AMPS 440; help with dose

Hi Anne - i just wanted to come by and "meet" you!

About editing your subject line. If you go to your/Zener's condo (thread) and look at the first post of the day - to the right of the title there are 3 options "edit" "!" and "quote." Click on "edit" and it will allow you to change whatever was in that post, including both the subject header and the main body. As the day goes on we edit only the subject line in the first post to let others know how our cat is doing. That way someone can see at a glance how Zener is that day.

Don't edit the main text of that post, though, because people will miss it. Instead you can first edit the subject line, then click "submit" at the bottom when you're done editing.

It will refresh your screen and you'll be able to see your post.

If you want to add something, then go to "post reply," which is found at both the top and the bottom of the page. By posting a new reply you will bump up your condo in the forum and people will see whatever changes you made to the subject line and in the new reply.

For starting a new thread (or condo) you just click on the Lantus Forum which gives you an overview of all the posts. You can see everyone's updated subject lines. Right under "Lantus" you'll have an option for "new topic" - every morning do that to start a new condo for the day.

Does that help? There is a tech forum but I haven't used it much and don't know how monitored it is.

Re: 06/25/11 Zener's AMPS 440; help with dose

Nice to "meet" you Julie and thanks for the help, that is exactly what I needed and it is now crystal clear. The trick will be to see if I do it correctly! Tried a practice run on yesterday's condo as you suggested and I saw how it works so keep your fingers crossed for me! Thanks again.

Re: 06/25/11 Zener's AMPS 440;+3 354

Just did Zener's +3 and on the way down, using the 1.25u started last night. He is eating fine today, demanding petting and brushing, so that's good. Urination and drinking remaining stable at pretty normal levels (pre-diagnosis). Will post his +6 BG around 2 PM.

Re: 06/25/11 Zener's AMPS 440;+3 354

Hi Anne! I just read through your condo from yesterday. You're doing such a wonderful job. I know it's not easy with all the testing and trying to get Zener to eat, but you've just been fantastic. Great job!!!!

Re: 06/25/11 Zener's AMPS 440;+3 354

Thanks so much for your kind words! It certainly is stressful and after almost three months without making much progress I was getting very concerned. The help from everyone on this list and the support has been invaluable! Fortunately I am off work in the summer so it has been a bit easier to be vigilant in testing. Hopefully, things will be better controlled when I go back to work in August!

Re: 06/25/11 Zener's AMPS 440;+3 354; +6 298

Just did the +6 for Zener, a much slower and more controlled drop than yesterday. He is eating more normally today.

Re: 06/25/11 Zener's AMPS 440;+3 354; +6 298

Anne: this has been a crazy week for me so forgive me if I haven't been on your condo to welcome you and Zener or if I HAVE been and have forgotten that I was   I think I started to post the other day because I remember reading that he has CH (I'm too lazy to type it all out); you are amazing....we had several of these kitties at the no-kill cat shelter where we used to volunteer and they take extra special love so I admire you very much. They are such loving kitties.

Nice curve today...you are really doing well. I know you have this in your signature block, but I just wonder if you should also put AT in your subject line every day if you are still using the Alpha Trak. (See Maggie's condo). The reason I suggest that is there are only a few people using ATs so we assume if we see an "80" in a subject line, that it is a human glucometer. But for Zener, that would be about a 50. And so people would be more likely to pop in and make sure you all are doing ok .....at least until you've been around a while and are really comfy with handling low numbers. Plus...seems like when numbers get low, you get a bigger cheering section   Just a thought.....

Re: 06/25/11 Zener's AMPS 440;+3 354; +6 298

Thanks for the welcome, and I will put AT in my heading from now on. I will be getting a human glucometer as a back up soon, but right now I have about 150 test strips for the AT. Thanks for the kind words. Zener is a very special guy, one of the sweetest cats ever and is taking this all in stride like a real trooper! His CH is fairly mild and mostly effects his rear legs, but does make it more complicated when looking for symptoms of hypo since he does many of those things "normally".

Re: 06/25/11 Zener's AMPS 440;+3 354; +6 298; +9 259 ATrak

Just did the +9 BG and still going down from +6, 259. We are using the Alpha Trak.

Re: Help 06/25/11 Zener's PMPS 244 ATrak

Just did Zener's PMPS BG and it was 244, still coming down from his +9 of 259. He has CH and we have been very cautious with him, also using the Alpha Trak glucometer. He is currently on 1.25 u, this would be his 3rd injection at that dose. Am I okay to give 1.25? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Help 06/25/11 Zener's PMPS 244 ATrak

I think you're fine to go ahead with that dose. The 259 and the 244 are pretty much the same number. There's up to 20% variance due to your meter which is why these are pretty much the same numbers.

Re: Help 06/25/11 Zener's PMPS 244 ATrak

Thanks for the very rapid reply! Gave Zener the 1.25 u and then he ate like a trooper immediately after. I will do a +3 BG before going to bed and see how things progress. We've been so up and down for the first months that I still get anxious. Thanks again for your help and support!

Re: Help 06/25/11 Zener's PMPS 244 ATrak

Welcome to lantus land! What a gorgeous boy-he looks like my Copper Boy who just passed GA, so I guess Zener will hold a special place with me!! You Have been doing your very best & it shows..244 is a very safe number, Moonie would be hungry on that(Oh wait she usually is!)
He will get his appetite back as soon as he starts leveling out on the lantus..It's a long road, but you'll see him improve day by day..You need to give a new dose some time to settle in.. You'll see a difference in a few days. Have a good evening. Hugs from us!

Re: Help 06/25/11 Zener's PMPS 244 ATrak

Thanks for the warm welcome! Zener is very pleased to have a new admirer. Thank you for the kind comments and the support. It has been a long road but now after the change to Lantus and the education, advice and support from this group I am feeling more positive than I have since his diagnosis. He started feeling better on the Lantus almost right away even though the dosing was not the best. His PUPD resolved within the first week on Lantus even with the high and highly variable BG values. He lost quite a bit of weight from the time of diagnosis through the first two months of treatment. It wasn't a bad thing for him to lose a little weight, but he lost almost 2 lbs in about two months and his appetite was practically non-existent. At the same time he was switched to Lantus, we started to transition him to wet food, as I was reading more on this site about the importance of wet food for regulation (and many other good health benefits as well). He had never eaten wet food in his life. Fortunately, his weight is starting to stabilize and he is now at a good weight for him. He has a waist! Thanks for the information on how his appetite is affected by the leveling out of the Lantus, we look forward to that!

Zener's +3 BG 354. He has been eating like a lumberjack tonight, crying and asking for more. That's a big change from yesterday when he was not eating much at all unless I "primed" the pump with hand feeding first. Tonight was the third injection at 1.25u. He had all 5 Ps in place at sometime today. Off to bed now, will post test results in the AM.
