Good morning LL!

Junior had a good day yesterday. His BG was higher so we shot our first fat .25u. We'll stay at this level until he tells us he wants a dose decrease.

Yesterday's video went to Junior's head and he acted like a spoiled celebrity. He marched over to the craft services table and demanded his steamed chicken treats. At +5, I tried to test him again but he refused to work. He said he fulfilled his daily 4 pokes and doing one more violated the Screen Actor Guild rules.

Thank you for cheering me on yesterday as I train for the Chicago triathlon. I used to do them when I lived in LA but this is my first one in 5 years. My first one was in Maui and as you can see in my username, I didn't swim like a shark! I"m such a slow poke, usually finishing in the bottom 5%. If I keep training like this, I'd be happy if I finished in the bottom 5%!

good luck with the training... i think it's great, and as long as you try, the finish is unimportant. For me, it's all in the doing. Go Bonnie!

I watched your video with amazement!!! Junior is one scary cat!!! The second test on the video scared the crap out of me. I have to hand it to you, you are sooo quick!!! I'm surprised you didn't have blood oozing from your hand after that. And, man, Junior is fast with the fang strikes!! His growls and snarls should be recorded for horror movies cuz he's ferocious!!! And what cracks me up is how sweet and lovable he looks in the opening scene of the video. Lying on his back, looking into the camera with his soft, sweet little eyes, rubbing on his nanner......and then he sees the lancet.....and it's ON!!! You are very brave. The only suggestion I would have, and you may have already tried, is using a lancet pen where you load the lancet, put on the cap, and then hit a button to have the lancet poke his ear. The reason I say this is because I check my own sugars (diabetes runs in our family and I had gestational diabetes) and when I use a lancet pen, I barely feel the poke, but when I've used a lancet free hand, it hurts like a mother!!! Not joking. Same lancet, totally different pain level. I don't know if that would help Junior "like" it more, but it might be worth a try. The click is usually very minimal and by the time they hear it, its all over!!

Anyway, congratulations on you and Junior's movie debut!! It was awe inspiring!! And I'm serious about his growls and snarls being perfect for horror flicks....it would scare the pee out of me!!

so Junior is now a diva, not surprised, cats already think they're stars.

And I'm sure you're going to do great in the triathlon, just finishing it is such an achievement, don't worry about your placement.

Junior, you have nice numbers, now be nice for your tests!! I agree with Patty, Bonnie: try a lancet device. They are very quick and do not seem to hurt the cats as much as doing it freehand (I learned this with Stu). I like the Accu-Check Soft Touch the best of the ones I've tried.

I think it's great that you're going to train for a triathlon.

Thanks for watching Junior get poked and I appreciate the feedback.

I tried lancet devices when we first started but they never worked. He was all squirmy and freaked at the clicking sound. Plus if I missed and jabbed my finger, I couldn't reset it fast enough.

But I just tried it again and it worked like a charm! SWEET!!!!

The sequel will be of a purring Junior. Oh yes, there will be a sequel!

ps. Patty you crack me up! You should've seen me 2 weeks ago when I started ear pokes and the last 2 weeks of paw pokes. It was faaaaarrrrr worse than this. You can kind of see some marks on my hands. They're not freckles -- they're bite marks. At one point I counted 48 on my hands and arms alone.

So glad I didn't throw out the lancet device! Thanks everyone!!!

I got a kick out of your video! what a feisty kitty. He is absolutely adorable and I love that after he bit you, and you offered him the chicken he ate it. We never did the lancet with Maverick. The free hand was much quicker and easier for both of us. I finally get your user name HAHA. Good for you!

Doh! I pierced his ear with the lancet device. But I do like it much better! Just need to practice with a different setting.
