yesterday: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=4945

confused_cat I am very confused today! When I first started talking about reducing Morris' calorie intake a couple weeks ago, it was mainly because he was usually not eating all the food I put out for him & partly because I do not want him to gain any more weight since he is currently at his ideal weight. None of the regular visitors to our condo said anything negative about this at all. Yesterday, a couple of new visitors to our condo say I am doing a bad thing by not free feeding and by reducing his calories! They said that I should wait until Morris is 'regulated' before I reduce his food intake! It is hard for me to listen to their advice since I don't know these new people, but at the same time it's hard for me to totally ignore what they said because it has made me start thinking that I am being a bad momma bean by reducing Morris' food! I don't know what to do!

WCR: Morris seems to be doing quite fine. He looks & acts healthy and he has all of his P's in order!

I did not get any 'extra' BG tests in yesterday. I was SO exhausted, that I fell asleep on the couch after dinner, woke up just in time for Morris' BG & insulin time, then I went straight to bed! Not sure why I felt so exhausted yesterday, but I sure hope today is a better day!!!

Re: 2/03 Morris AMPS 315

I'm so sorry that I caused you to be confused. I didn't mean to do that. I had to take a break from posting on the board for a while so you haven't gotten a chance to meet me. :YMSIGH:

You are not being a bad mommabean in anyway, you are being very proactive in the care of Morris. That is wonderful! Any suggestions or two cents I give are the same that I received when I first started with Marco back in May of '09 and helped me get Marco to where he is now (diet controlled). If Morris is maintaining his weight, then by all means stick to what you are doing.

Sorry for the confusion; and for making you think you were a bad mommabean.

Re: 2/03 Morris AMPS 315

Hi,

I read yesterday's and today's condo. I think if Morris is not eating all of the food you give him, you can decrease the amount you feed by the amount he is not eating. If he eats it all, then give it to him. I have a civvie who sometimes eats the whole can (FF 3oz) and sometimes doesn't. I throw out what he doesn't eat.

What Celia said about eating a lot until they are regulated is true. Their body doesn't use the food correctly so they feel starved. What I noticed with Oreo is she would eat a lot faster when her numbers were (or are) higher for a while. Then she will start slowing down when eating. She still wants to eat everyone's food, so that isn't the best indicator for me . Once they spend more time in "normal" numbers and their body uses the food correctly their appetite should return to normal. Then you can start to taper off the food to get Morris to a healthier weight.

Clear as mud??

Looks like Morris has decided to take a trip to RBC again! You would think he would be tired of that place by now! LOL! Now to try & figure out why he is taking this trip.....is it because of being back on the higher dose of insulin, or because I have cut back his food intake, or both?!?!?

Thank you to Jen & Celia for expalining more about the food/BG relationship - I understand it a bit better now, but I still don't know what to do! Do I go back to feeding him 2 cans of Friskies per day (even though I have heard from several people that feeding him that much is WAY too much) & face the possibilty of having to throw some of it out each day, or keep with his current routine of 1 can of Friskies or EVO plus 1 can of Fancy Feast per day.

I guess I am still searching for that elusive easy answer button like on the Staples commercials! Why don't pets (& kids too) come with those?!?!?
