9/11, a day of remembrance:

This photo with the World Trade Center in the distance was taken from the roof deck of our co-op building in Brooklyn. After 9/11 the absence of the WTC and the smoke that drifted over our neighborhood for 3 or 4 months were a constant reminder of loss. Our local firehouse, a first-responder unit, lost half it's men. I am watching the memorial on TV this morning in tears.

3 hours later: we had a power outage. I've tested Rusty 3 times and he's probably starting a bounce from that 65 AMPS! (Tested twice at AMPS and got 63 on the second test!!). I just rushed back from the finish line of the canoe race to test Rusty and give him his lunch and am headed back (on my bike). I'll be keeping a close eye on him today. Decided to shoot a fat 1.00 (instead of 1.25) this morning. I'm not convinced that the 1.25 wasn't too much insulin.

Back later. Rusty is acting normally. I hope we broke the yellow log jam!! Will visit condos later.

Remembering

Good call on the dose, I hope Rusty settles back down.

I woke to the news of the first plane hitting that morning. What I remember most of the following week is the quiet. We are on the flight path between LA and SF. There was nothing up there. It was as if time had stopped and we were all holding our breath for the whole week. Everything was so still.

Wow on Rusty.....I am really hoping the dental puts him back into his lovely cycles.

I can't imagine being where you were then.....I'm so sorry about the first responders in your local dept. Today is a sad day.

Mike had just gotten home from a trip thank God. Of course I am nailbite_smile nailbite_smile nailbite_smile about him flying today....towards the east coast.

Come on back down Rusty...you do not want to bounce.

I remember turning on the tv and thinking I was seeing a promotion for a video game.
Would that it had been so....

Wow on the 65, Rusty...and on your bean's boundless energy!

Hi Ella, you were really physically close there to everything that happened. Very sad about your local firehouse losing half it's men.
That sure is a low AMPS for Rusty boy and some nice greens to follow. Wishing you and Rusty good dental vines for tomorrow.

nice day for Rusty!

Funny how Ann remembers quiet, and I remember fighter jets (circling Minneapolis/St. Paul endlessly). My little brother was working at the Capitol then and I remember his stories about being evacuated and running like heck because they thought the last plane might be headed for them.

Rusty - dude... Uhhhh... we were thinking that well uhhhhh.... we sure would like to have the full moon party in your barn. It just seems like the perfect place. can we, huh? ~~ Mannie

WOW!! I take off for the day and look what I missed! Awesome - and I too think it was a good call on the dose. He may be headed up, but it's not too bad of a bounce. Good job today - omg: with a race to monitor too.

Is tomorrow dental day? Good luck - I hope Rusty does well with it.

I enjoyed your remembrance today. It is such a sad day, and important for all of us to remember. For me it was like Ann said. We have minor flight paths here with a local airport that is nearby. There was nothing.. so eerily quiet. What I remember most though are the people from NY that I was working with at the time. I cannot forget their courage, honor, stead-fastness. And for some their fear, their deep seeded sense of loss. I am sorry for the loss of the responders in your area.

I was in Detroit suburbs as I am now - and the total lack of aircraft was amazing. We have so much traffic for Detroit airport. There are usually 3 or 4 very large circles for planes waiting to land - at any time, there may be 10 to 20 planes circling for their turn --

With no planes for 3 days, the skies were more clear / noticeably less pollution and everything was quieter.

Re: 9/11 Rusty AMPS 65(!), PMPS 187

Hi again,
Rusty is certainly on a bounce (or I gave a fur shot--but I don't think so). This evening's shot was an "ouchie": he even turned around and tried to nip me. But I think it got in. In any event, it will be the last shot until PMPS tomorrow. The vet's office called and said not to give him food (or water) after 8 P.M. tonight. We will take him to the vet between 8 and 9 A.M. and the dental procedure will probably be around 9:30 or 10. I think, however, I will give him a tiny bit of food at his usual bedtime, so that his routine is not totally interrupted. He never drinks water from his bowls in any event, but I add it to his food. Tomorrow morning will be the hardest. I have the dental checklist, know what to say about Metacam and Convenia. But I don't know what to do if it turns out that a tooth needs to be extracted (the vet does not have dental-x ray capabilities). I guess we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.). The x-ray of his bladder to determine if there is a stone will take place tomorrow, too.

Question for Sienne, et al.: Do you think I should ask them to do another urinalysis via cystocentesis to see if the struvite crystals are still there, and if the PH is still a bit high (7.5)? The previous test was on 2 September.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Re: 9/11 Rusty AMPS 65(!), PMPS 187

Leo and I will have fingers and paws crossed that all goes well for the dental tomorrow. We are in the same boat, however, our clinic is getting a dental xray in 2 weeks or so and i have requested that Leo be xrayed, so we are waiting. I know for sure that he needs 4 extractions and a cleaning and the xray will give me peace of mind.

Nice hootin this morning Ella! Hopefully this is just a wee mini bounce and Rusty's numbers will start coming down after his dental is all done.

I am on the emergency response team up at work, which basically means that I am a EMT/firefighter and all the training we take, especially the firefighting stuff, everything is based on what went wrong on 9-11, everything changed for first responders ever since that day.......i watched the A&E special this morning and it really hits close to home for me, especially because I would be the person running into the fire when everybody else is running out and i just couldn't imagine being in a situation like that. It breaks my heart to hear your local first responders lost half their men, the people you work with really do become your family.

Ella: you all will be up and out by the time I get up tomorrow. We're sending Rusty tons of healing vines and SUPER DUPER GOOD dental vines and also sending you big hugs. We'll be waiting for an update when you have it.

Tobey is all ready for the massage and has special oils for the vetty smell. Gracie is in the kitchen going through all her mixology books. She is trying to keep the secret about the cake. ;-) ;-) ;-)
