yesterday's condo

It took Spock awhile to no be so afraid. We got home around noon and I set him up in the bathroom. I gave him a cube to hide in but he preferred the bathtub. So I put the cube in the bathtub and he still didn't want it. So then I cleared out a bottom cabinet and that's where he wanted to be. I gave him gravied Friskies last night just to make sure he'd eat.

When I got up in the middle of the night I found that he no longer was hiding and he's a much happier boy this morning :-D
So I gave him FF T&G and he ate it. I will be trying to not give him any more gravies to try to bring down that yellow number.

Vet appointment in a few hours, so we'll see how happy a boy he is when we get back ;-) Will update later. (I took Wed. - Fri. off of work just so I could make sure he gets settled).

Re: 9/29 Spock AMPS 305

this is so exciting! it feels like we've got a new baby in the group! so glad spock is here - he was scared because he didn't know what was happening to him, but pretty soon he's going to realize he's made it to Cat Mecca. :-D

Re: 9/29 Spock AMPS 305

I'm so glad to see that Spock seems to be settling in- poor guy having to go to the vettie just after all of the trauma- prob better to get all of the badness out of the way though... I love his eyes!!!

Re: 9/29 Spock AMPS 305

(((((Carolyn)))) You are such an angel to be taking Spock into your home. He looks just like my cat i had growing up, right down to the different colored eyes.

Good luck at the vet today Spock, be a brave boy.

This is just so exciting! What a lucky, lucky boy Spock is. Good luck with the vet today. I'm sure he'll be all settled in before you know it!!

Re: 9/29 Spock AMPS 305

Well, let me start off by saying that Spock is now afraid again. He probably thought I was taking him away to be handed off to someone else. So when I brought him home from the vet I opened the cabinet door so he could go hide again. I came back a little later and he decided that he didn't want the bottom shelf that I so graciously cleaned out for him; he wanted the top shelf. :? So he pushed a bunch of things out and was laying on top what was left (bottles, etc). I tried to get the rest and he swatted at me. Last night he also swatted and bit me when I pet him while he was in the cabinet. So, I guess I know what makes him feel vulnerable  and won't do that again!

As for the vet visit... His weight is 10.15 (12 oz. less than 5 weeks ago). He can definitely stand to gain some weight as I can see/feel his spine. Dr. Van did hear his heart murmur and it's severe - 6 out of 6. But his blood pressure is normal. He does need a dental and will probably have at least two extractions (and maybe one canine). She agreed that the dental could wait for a little bit (so he could stop stressing here) and he will need an echo-cardiogram of his heart before he can be anesthetized. I will need to go to OSU for the echo (only about 10 miles away) and before they will do the echo Dr. Van will need to do an EKG and chest X-Rays. Dr. Van's practice includes advanced dentistry (and as I've mentioned, she has done many dentals on my cats) so I completely trust her with Spock. She said that many other vets in the area refer their cardiac patients to her for dentals. :-D

I introduced her to Methyl B-12 and we agreed to start him on that for his back legs (he's partially down on his hocks).

Overall she said he looked pretty good. :-D

Re: 9/29 Spock AMPS 305-results of vet visit

All-in-all, a good vet visit. Now, if Spock could just settle in. Do you think some Feliway or Rescue Remedy may help?

Carolyn, I missed your condo yesterday and am just delighted today to read the news that you have adopted Spock. What a lucky kitty he is! I'm sure he will settle in nicely now that he knows he's in his furever home. It's wonderful that he's eating and has come out of hiding.

We wish you and your fur family a wonderful evening,

Ella & Rusty

p.s. I started shooting Rusty between the shoulder blades, where it is easier to see skin. It works! (anti-jinx)

Did they put spock on enapril?

My dog has a grade six murmer, enlarged heart and fights CHF - they won't do a dental on her and her teeth are in bad shape. Even an infected tooth gets antibiotics. THey said there is something about putting her under I can't remember the exact reason. Even the cardiologist that we saw mutliple times at the University of Montreal vet school said no.

I don't know how they manage heart disease in cats but I've seen a number of cats on enapril. Nike my dog is on benazapril/fortekor which is easier on the kidneys but I don't see people posting about their cats being on this.

Spock will come around and realize he's not going anywhere and will start showing you the wonderful boy he is. You have done a wonderful thing.

I'm confident that Spock will realize the wonderful place he is now in before you know it. He's just been through so much, and needs to know this is for real, and for keeps. We had similar issues when Trixie first came to live with us...she trusted no one. Now, she is velcro cat.

Sounds like a good vet visit for Spock. Now it's time to settle in to regular old every day life!

Hi Carolyn - Sorry I missed out on meeting you and Spock but definitely understand you not wanting to drive over to the coast - the drive down I-5 is much faster and easier. When Chris and Lisa were here, we looked at all of the pictures of Spock - what a handsome guy he is. Really beautiful - and so fortunate to have been taken to a loving furever home.

Glad it went well today - hopefully he will settle in very soon - with love and stability, I'm sure he will. Hopefully before long, all the medical problems can be taken care of and you can both settle into a routine and have a wonderful life together. He's a lucky little kitty.

Emmy & Dude (& Mittsi too)
