It's a cold damp morning here at 7000 feet, very unusual to have so much rain. Snow in the forecast for Thursday! The bird action at the feeders is fast and furious with the upcoming weather change, and Zener is keeping a close eye on things!

We are starting to have a little success shifting Zener's carb intake lower with mixing the 5 and 11% fuds. Getting closer to a 50-50 mix for the first time! We want to see what the reduction of carbs does to Zener's cycles for a few days before considering any dosecrease. We're reluctant to manipulate more than one variable at a time, especially since we have a busy rest of the week and close monitoring is not possible.

Hi guys .. glad to hear the progress continues with zeners new mixture of fuds .. I agree, it's probably best not to change everything over at once, new dose, all LC foods .. we gotta give this boy a chance Hope you guys have a great day!

Good afternoon! Glad Zener is finally eating your gourmet meal! It is very difficult to deal with a FD kitty that is not food motivated. I agree with only one variable at a time.

Thanks all for your support on our fuds experiment. Zener's numbers are not going as we would like today though. Liz thought she smelled insulin at his AM shot and his numbers are acting more like a fur shot than a bounce. :sad:

Whew...what a crazy day! We were both late getting home and between testing, cleaning up some pee outside the box and shooting, it was chaos at our house!

We are delighted Zener is at a 50-50 mixture of 11% and 5%, so he is eating 8% carbs! We are a little puzzled about his pink numbers today. Not sure if perhaps he dropped low after I did his +5.5 last night and was bouncing today, or if perhaps it was a fur shot. He leveled up after his 383 @ +7 and was still almost the same at PMPS. So, wise eyes on FDMB, is there a way to tell the difference in a bounce and a fur shot?

And, even better, he is eating a 50-50 MC LC mix, averaging out as 8% carbs!

Even though his numbers are still high, with a big drop @+2, we may see some action tonight. So, more tests to come. ;-)

i don't know how you would know the difference, unless the numbers kept on increasing after the shot that followed the possibly-fur-shot one.

good job on working with the food carbs! excellent idea to only change one variable at once, otherwise how would you ever know what caused a difference!

Well, he is on the way down at +2, so that's a good thing. Liz smelled insulin this morning after his shot, but his fur wasn't damp and he has such fine, thin fur that we rarely have a fur shot. Then, the whole cycle was up, up and away. I guess it really doesn't matter whether it is a bounce or a fur shot. Somehow I still think we have some control over what happens! :lol: :lol: :lol:

Thanks! We are really excited his appetite seems so good and he is eating the 50-50 mix. We have paws crossed this trend continues! We are hoping he has "finally caved" to the wet food plan. :lol:

Looks like you are doing well with the feeding, glad he is responding well..
These kitties all have their little ways they like to eat - I hand feed Moonie after amps & pmps in a paper dish, with ff in it, just to be sure she eats some after shot--Just got in this habit & now is part of every day--I like it as it is a bonding experience & I love her eating after shot--No questions did she eat! She free feeds rest of the time!

Thanks for the support Roni! When Zener was first diagnosed, and still eating dry kibble and on Humulin, I would hand feed to get him to eat at shot time. It was quite the bonding experience, and I would hold my breath until he would eat something.

He is doing so much better with his eating recently. In addition to eating a better mix of carbs, he is eating more calories. And, he is pretty impatient when it is time to eat. I don't think he could wait now for a little hand feeding! We are so encouraged that he is eating better now and can maintain his weight better.


Looks like he is indeed bouncing and no more tests tonight. I-) I-) I-)

It's looking like a bounce. flip_cat Despite the numbers, he seems to be feeling good and eating great!
