Definitely a better start today than yesterday! We are shifting our strategy to focus on flattening out the curve. (Previously I was thinking that we should let him drop to earn reductions so we only gave HC when he got below 100 on the Alpha Trak). So now we are checking at +1 or +1.5 and giving HC if we see a big drop (around 50 pts/hr or more). His appetite is better these days and we've lowered the carbs a bit. He's eating around 4 oz of 8% each cycle. We started 2.5 mg of Pepcid once a day a few weeks ago and that seems to help with the appetite. We'll see how he does. His attitude remains very positive. He is such a mellow fellow and goes with whatever we do, as long as he gets lots of loving.

Thinking especially of ailing beans and critters, Jill and DH, Tarragon, Charlie, Rocket, Comet, Tawny and others. Have a great day LL!

Good morning! Better start for Zener! Think blue big guy.

I am interested in what you are trying to do with the flattening of the curves. Definitely keep me posted on how it goes. Tarragon and Zener seem pretty similar in their big ups and downs and I have been thinking about how to even him out. I think you are on to something and am anxious to see if it works.

Also, do you give Zener the pepcid every day? It sounds like they think Tarragon has an ulcer so maybe pepcid is something I need to add to help him with his appetite as well. I haven't talked to them yet on how to manage it, but from what I have read the pepcid is a possibility. I hate to add yet another prescription to his already packed pill regimen.

Thank you both for all of your support the last 12 hours. It means a lot to me. Have a wonderful day Liz and Anne!!

Re: 11/15 Zener AMPS 251 ATrak

We've been talking to Sienne about this and she quoted some info she got from Jill. I'll compile everything and post it because it's different than what we had been doing. Yes, Tarragon and Zener seem very similar. It makes me wonder if diabetic cats could be classified into several groups and have different approaches for each group.

The Pepcid is over-the-counter, tiny, and not expensive! We give him 1/4 tablet (2.5 mg) in a pill pocket every day and he gobbles it right down. We use it as a poke treat. We use the duck and pea flavor pill pocket (good for diabetic cats).

Well that's better Zener! Enough of that girlie color. Next is the very manly blue, coming up?

Somehow I think the lots of loving part of the regimen will never be lacking!

Awwww Linda, what a nice thing to write to us! There are so many wonderful, kind and loving beans on this list who are just as crazy about their cats as we are, we are so grateful to have such compassionate support. :YMHUG:

Zener is crusing along in flat yellows and we are delighted to be off the trampoline for a bit! He is eating well this morning and was helping Liz with her yoga, now in our front window on his heating pad watching the birds and the dog walkers.

We were kind of excited that Zener's curve was flattening a little yesterday, and now "the color that cannot be named". Not sure if this is the still the bounce from the greens 11/13 or another bounce from the 100 drop we had at the start of his cycle last night. We have put on our winter patience pants and paws crossed he doesn't stay here long. :?

grr_red grr_red Zener, Jetta really appreciates your company up there, but you need to come down ok?

Alrighty then, down we go out of gawd awful color. We are trying the MC & HC to help control big drops to flatten out the cycles and hopefully, paws crossed, affect Mr Bouncy Buns. We suspect we need to get more insulin in Mr Z so we are trying to get through the latest bounce before we do that. :YMSIGH:

Yeah Binks & Celi, he's serious about these rotten numbers.

We trying to get him through the latest bounce and a little flatter, then dosecrease it is. We're in the 5th cycle of the bounce, so likely dosecreasing for Binksie's OTJ party (anti-jinx on the party).

Hi guys! WOW on that pmps... but I know the feeling... Mannie was there just yesterday.

Good luck with the attempts at flattening out the curve - I know the drill well, and it does help flatten curves, then you can work on bringing the numbers down over all. It really does make a difference, Mannie was such a diver, that we switched to feeding at the front end of the cycle. sure did help with the drops. Good luck!

Re: 11/15 Zener PMPS 459;+1 422;+2 400;+3 329 ATrak

Thanks for that Michelle. It is a bit of a mental adjustment and we may over carb in the beginning, which may be what I did tonight at +3, so he was up again @+4. I'm getting a +5.5 shortly, or +6 if I can stay awake that long and see if it was a bit of a food spike, or just more of the bounce. :YMSIGH:

Re: 11/15 Zener PMPS 459;+1 422;+2 400;+3 329 ATrak

liz, i think you're absolutely right about grouping the diabetic cats. it does seem like the zoomie ones are the hardest to regulate - it's like a swinging pendulum and they don't want to park in the middle!

yesterday's little girl was very sweet - except when i was trying to get her to do any work! then, well, not so much. but i am stoic and wasn't going to get beat by an 8 year old! today and the rest of this week i'm at a different school with a 3rd grade boy. he's also sweet in between the crazy moments. it's very interesting - i have a ton of experience with middle and high schoolers but no recent experience with the young ones. it's a whole new world! ;-)

ok now zener, you got the story, now come on down from the rooftops!

Re: 11/15 Zener PMPS 459;+1 422;+2 400;+3 329:+4 362 ATrak

Hi Julie, Liz is in dream land now and I'm on night duty. I'll make sure she sees your reply about your school day, sounds very interesting and challenging in a whole new non-BG way! :-D Zener is in bounce land, but we are feeling optimistic about our new approach, mostly our new attitude. I also got some help from Christie on how to change our SS to make the colors match with the AT meter readings, and it looks a little better at a glance. :-D

Well, it's a flat cycle as we wanted, but stinkus pinkus ugh. :YMSIGH:
Using LB more tonight - darn high numbers. Dosecrease on tap for tomorrow evening, depending on how the numbers roll out tomorrow. Ni ni LL, sweet dreams. I-)
